Terms and Conditions

The contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers.
Participants must abide by all the competition rules, regulations and by any decisions made by the organizers.
All participants must be over the age of 15. Participants below the age of 18 must obtain parental consent and sign the waiver form.
You may download and print the waiver form from here (http://www2.canon.com.ph/clubeos/shootandrun/indemnity-form.doc).
Sign and return it on the day of the event, December 16, 2006.
Participants retain the rights to images submitted for The Competition.
All the entrants give CANON Marketing Philippines, Inc. the right to display all the entries. The right is also given to the use of any photo entry for future CANON Marketing Philippines advertising and promotion of The Competition.
Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. reserves the right to publish, display and the use of the winning photos for promotional and advertising purposes without remuneration of any kind to the owner of the photograph.
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any participant who has infringed any of the competition rules.
The decision of thejudges of the Shoot and Run Photo Contest is final and unappealable. The judges will entertain no correspondence, or any type of complaint with regard to the competitions judging.
Participation in the competition signifies the agreement and acceptance of the terms and conditions as listed.
Competition is open to Filipino citizens and Permanent Residents of the Philippines.

The Competition shall be limited to the first 300 registrants only
The Competition is on an open category format: amateurs and professionals compete for the main prizes.
All participants must wear the prescribed Identification Card and Canon T-Shirt printed by Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. within the entire period of The Competition. Failure to do so MAY disqualify the participant from the competition.
Canon DSLR users can join The Competition for FREE. Non-Canon DSLR users are required to pay a Php 500.00 joining fee.
Only Canon and non-Canon branded DSLRs (Digital Single-Lens Reflex Cameras) may be used in The Competition. Point-and-shoot digital cameras are NOT allowed.
Storage media accepted are CF/SD/MMC/XD/SM/MS/MS PRO. The organizers will not be held responsible for the camera or memory media’s inability to read/download images.
Participants can use any form of transport during The Competition at their own discretion.
Participants can only use ONE (1) camera body unit in taking photographs.
All participants MAY use extra lenses or other camera accessories for the entire duration of The Competition.
There will be TWO (2) primary photography assignments PLUS a special, though optional, third category in The Competition. All topic assignments shall be revealed during The Competition.
Participants must complete the two primary photography assignments to be eligible to win a prize.
All entries must fulfill the following conditions:
Submit and upload each assignment photograph on the specified time and location.
Assignment photograph must be based on the designated theme
Entries will be rated by a panel of judges. All photographs will be judged on the following key criteria:
Relevance to theme 30%
Creativity in theme interpretation 20%
Composition of photograph. 30%
Overall impact 20%
There shall be 2 winners per assignment category, and one overall winner..
Winners will be awarded in the evening of December 16, 2006 at the event headquarters. Dinner will be served.
If the winner is unable to accept the prize on the day of the award giving, he/she will be notified through e-mail, telegram and a phone call. Failure to redeem the prize within 30 days upon notification shall be forfeited.
All digital photographs submitted must be new works that have been shot during The Competition hours by participants. Participants who submit images that were shot earlier or shot by proxies will be disqualified.
Digital photo entries submitted must be taken in their original format, not cropped, superimposed, or in any way manipulated or enhanced by any image editing software. Use of special filters & in camera adjustments are allowed.
All Employees of Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc., OgilvyOne worldwide, BCD Pinpoint, Dentsu Phils, Front Row DMG and other participating sponsors including their relatives up to second degree of consanguinity or affinity are disqualified from joining The Competition.
Images for download must be in JPEG format and should not be more than 4MB in size.
Participants are to report for registration at Palacio de Maynila, Roxas Blvd on December 16, 2006. Registration opens at 10:00AM
Participants must be present at The Competition briefing that begins at 10:30 A.M. Failure to appear at the 10:30 A.M. briefing disqualifies participants to join The Competition.
Participants must be present to receive the assignment themes at the following times and venues:
10:30 a.m. at Palacio de Maynila
2:00 p.m. at Palacio de Maynila
Participants must report to (home base) by the following times. This is the cut-off time for downloading of all photos:
2:00 p.m. for Assignment 01
6:30 p.m. for Assignment 02
Participants must submit photos in person. No proxy submission by any participant is allowed during The Competition.
The organizers will not be responsible for providing photographic equipment including spare batteries, lenses or additional memory cards. All participants are expected to come prepared with all their photographic equipment.
The organizers will not be responsible for any equipment loss of the participants during The Competition.
An ambulance van will be stationed at a nearby vicinity during the entire duration of the contest for medical assistance.

Competition Process
Attend briefing at exactly 10:30 A.M.
The participants will receive two assignment themes.
The first assignment will be received at 10:30 a.m. at the (home base)
The second assignment will be received at 2:00 p.m. at the (home base)
Return to The Competition venue. Remember to give yourself time for traveling, and to return ONE HOUR before the next assignment theme.
Indicate first assignment, deadline time and venue of submission.
Indicate second assignment, deadline time and venue of submission.
Queue up at the designated area for your turn to download your assignment photo.
You may download your photo at your assigned computer stations located at the home base.
From all the shots taken, only select one photo, your best photo for that assignment. Only ONE (1) photo entry per assignment is allowed.
After choosing the best photo for the entry, download it into the assigned folder using the computers provided. Someone will assist you in saving your file to your folder.
Do not take more than three minutes to select and transfer your best photo for the assignment. The person assisting you will notify you once you exceed the time limit.
Wait for the next assignment theme to be announced

Participants will of course be judged based on their merit by unbiased judges. Non-canon users are most welcome. If they win, maybe they can switch over and use their newly acquired gear haha. :)

However, Canon would reserve the right to use the winning photographs in our press releases, post event releases, ads, print samples, and other collaterals. The photo of course would be clearly credited to the owner (ex: Photo taken by: ______, 1st place, Shoot & Run 2006) who will be duly informed of the use of his/her work. The owner would likewise also reserve the right to label/credit his work as a winning entry in Shoot & Run. Hope this helps clarfiy. :)

Does that mean Canon can use the winning photos for whatever purpose it chooses (Term 6) other than promoting the Competition? Furthermore, why not limit future use of the photos to only winning photos (Term 5)?

I just discussed this with Tiffany, this is possible provided that the ones who were not able to sign up will show up tomorrow at 9am, can still be included in the contest provided that:

1. They would have a written endorsement letter from the orginal registered person.
2. Should the original registered person be a Non-Canon user and will be replaced with a Canon user, He/she should still pay Php500.00.
3. The "Substitutes" should also provide the following details upon submission of the endorsement letter:
a. Name
b. Address
c. Contact Details
d. Camera Model
e. Lenses
4. They should also bring a printed copy of the Confirmation sheet and Signed Indemnity form.

Tiff and I were checking the Database of those who registered, we have seen participants who have registered POINT and SHOOT, and some FILM cameras. We would like to inform everyone that this event if for DSLR users only. We would not be allowing participants who cannot present their DSLR units upon actual registration in the event headquarters.

too bad I didnt really recognize most of you.

it was tough group. there were a good number of really good shots despite them having no post processing and shot under time pressure.

the experience was great! It made me realize that i have to start to unlearn my dependency on PS and re-learn to shoot good photography from the camera... as if I'm shooting film.

Congrats to Richard Larios and the other winners! btw, I was able to shake richard's hand =)

Congratulations to all the winners! The event was a blast and I was rewarded with a lot of revelations about my shooting skills. It was a great learning experience, trying to best 250+ other participants under time pressure. Thanks CANON for making this possible. :)

Darn it.. I knew I shouldve gotten my tripod last week... bukas ko pa kukunin.. I didnt realize na baywalk would be the perfect location for these kinds of shots.. and we had a permit pa!

hahaha... sayang! baywalk is one of the best spot to do tailed-lighting[tama ba?] according to my experience ah... hehe.. specially on the front of raha sulayman park. the one with the countdown traffic light. hehe:Grin:
