Manny and I know Thailand intimately. The people, pegeantry, culture and colors inspired both of us to hone our photographic skills to record and share these images from this amazing country.

The subjects to photograph are abundant, almost everywhere!

Manny's condo is right beside a temple where you may find lots of amusing novice monks and right across the street is a wet market where vendors selling brillant colored orchids and tropical fruits in season.

In my case I live close to a khlong (canal) where there are muslims and buddhists living together in harmony. There you would see the rural Thai's way of life. In the morning you'll see them washing their clothes and children swimming and their grandparents fishing in the canal.

But of course.. we are Filipinos. If you have a chance to visit Thailand these are the images to look for!

This is just an introduction.....

Thanks for starting this thread.

Where do I start? Back in 2003...when all I had was a point-and-shoot Nikon Coolpix camera. I remembered Jose a.k.a. Boboy persuading me to buy an SLR. "An SLR what?" I asked. Well, the rest is history.

Earl, Jerry and Mykl,

Salamat gid nga madamo... hehehe.

@Jerry,

It all depends what you want to do... if you intend to photograph Thailand, it would never be enough. hehehe. But three days would be enough for a "sampling" of Thailand... remember to get to these "touristy" places earlier than the other tourists. That means that you'll have to rent your own transportation and that might be more expensive than you international flight.... hahahaha.

This is cool. Okay, let me make this phrase up... "inverted contrast"... you have the hat as one photographic element and then that bowl as an inverted mirror image of the hat as another. Well, at least in terms of compositional flavor. I don't think I'm making sense. Okay, here's one that everybody understands... "nice shot!" Hehehe :D

Anyway, this Thai gallery of Boboy is climbing up very fast in Pbase... alongside with the Librodos' El Nido galleries and Manny's Krystal series... Someday, the P in Pbase will stand for "Philippines". Hehehe. You guys rock!

Thank you so much everyone. Salamat gid.

Pilar: that monk's picture is a classic. Must be the BW. I like the patterns as well.
Hochi: the picture has potential. Good crop and subject. Maybe a little tighter on top to eliminate the distraction?

Some pictures I've taken during trips with the Bnagkok Photographic Society. Most often than not, my brother and I (along with a few friends) find our own subjects away from those setup by the club.

Raul,

Despite of the mishaps, politcal countricide (politicians killing our country and newly coined word) all of us and the Philippines still rocks! I think we got stronger than ever!

On composition.... hahahaha here I go again... lets just say that the term would be Repetition... only that you have to be careful that the repeated shapes should vary.. either in direction or size.

I was looking through the popular galleries pages, minding my own business, then on page two I saw two albums from the same photographer, aha... a bug in their code I thought, then I rubbed my eyes and looked again...

Holy smokes, both are from Boboy Librodo :) . This guy opened his pbase account a month or so ago, uploaded only two albums, and tonight both albums are on the popular galleries page on pbase. Ang lufet!

Boboy, better open a third album and put your Vietnam or Laos photos there, para strike three on the same page :D

To all of those who are asking... the magic of reflection cannot be seen during the shoot because the water kind of move and the images warp, ripple and everything, since, it is mobile, the image doesn't form in the brain. But it is really exciting once you start previewing it. When there are still few people and no motorized boat the water is less choppy.. just like a lazy andulation, that is the ideal time to get these gorgeous rippling and warping reflections.

Here is one of those... from my Floating Market gallery at Pbase:http://www.pbase.com/josel/colours

These photos represent a part of Thailand which I haven't seen yet. Nice work

On "All Mine to Sell" - Great capture. I love how you waited for his hand to come up to that pose. I can really see part of the man's story through your photo.

When the subjects I photograph is in highl contrast lighting situation I always shoot underexposed... I always look for the lightest area and under expose it by half to one stop. Then when I pp it I use photoshop's shadow-highlight feature to open the dark areas! Here is an example:

manny & jose!

Wow!

This thread is more informative and inspiring than any of the tourist websites available for thailand.

I'm cramming (my plane leaves in 12 hours) to find out about thailand. I'm going to bangkok for a few days (and unfortunately don't know anything about bangkok or the the sites to visit).

After this thread: that's it, i'm skipping all the beaches and head straight for the floating market. now i just have to figure out how to get up at dawn, find a ride (subway?) to the place, don't get lost, and look for bridges to shoot from. oh yeah, bring camera.

Hi Marley! thanks for digging up this thread! It's simply inspiring.

Heller out to us when you come so that we can shoot together! I'm sure SPAS (Siam Pinoy Aperture Society) peeps will be happy to shoot with you, or better yet, take you to this places!

This also goes to all DPPers who plan to visit Thailand- tell us ahead. You've got pinoy photography enthusiasts in the kingdom!
