Great stuff, Norman. I agree, Nemo comes first and them tree worms are so cool.

ps - If I can have a dib at that shrimp maybe I'd go nearer still and at a "landscape" orientation.

Great shots norman. I agree taking a frontal shot of those shrimps can be a pain in the arse. I like the jellyfish too!

@Norman - Your pictures is so inviting to have underwater cam. Is Olympus 8080+casing will be enough? Thanks.

Elmer, I'm glad you liked it. Tok, may I ask why you find these excellent? (Trip was taxing. Never got to sleep) =B) Dexter, it's an Olympus 5050 inside an Ikelite housing. Thank you Reyno.

Dwight, 40 meters (130 ft) is the maximum for recreational diving but at five meters there is so much to see already. I also prefer to shoot shallow where you can blend ambient with artificial light.

Clemn, "turtles lang" pala ha. Seahorses are aplenty in Malapascua, they're everywhere. =B) Thanks Rommel. I like that jellyfish too -- it was taken shortly before sunset so it was already dark in the water. About the shrimp, I wanted to show the eggs inside so I opted to shoot it that way. I think they look more attractive when it's a full body shot.

Jerome, the 8080 is a great camera. On the other hand, I've heard about problems with it underwater, mostly focusing problems. Of course, it's on the online forums that you usually read about problems. A strobe is a must underwater, I think. Still, I'd like to believe skills (photography and buoyancy) are what matter most.

Thank you all.

Do you have a spotter when you dive?
Where did you shoot the ghost pipe fish is it in Basura?

Norman_P._Aquino
12-06-2006, 11:00 PM
Nino, looks yummy, 'no? Dick, sometimes yes, sometimes no. The pipefish was from Dos Palmas and the resort's researh head was my spotter that time.

Norman

ey norman- just a question, when you have a guide what are the things you will not allow the guide to do just to get the shot?

Adrien, I don't usually tell a spotter what he should or shouldn't do -- I always assume he knows what he is doing. I only ask him what I can find and what I wish to find in a particular site.

I am aware that some of the best underwater photographers have spotters who act like "sytlists." This may be forgivable if creatures are not harmed in the process. I haven't tried that. Actually, I haven't tried exclusively hiring a spotter -- I just tag along a DM or buddy who is good at finding things. =B)

But when I do see unacceptable behavior underwater, I just signal "No/No thanks," and leave. Refusing to photograph a creature that has been harassed is one sure way to discourage an over eager spotter.

Dwight, that's easy -- take an open water course. Tet, thank you.

Regards,
Norman

Thank you JC. If you're using an SLR underwater, you just house your macro lens. If it's a point and shoot, you can use your camera's supermacro mode if it has one. You can also screw in a wet macro lens into your housing.

Norman

Adrien, it's the basic tray that comes with the Ikelite housing.
