Just to add...

Stronghand (Roces Blvd, QC) also carries some lowepro products. Not all though since Stronghand sells gun accessories. I was able to get Lowepro lens cases as well as their belt and sliplock products.

IMHO, get two separate bags since there will be more days when you don't need to lug both of them with you.

If budget permits, buy an all-in-one in the future... or sabay na now.

Hi Nino,

Where exactly in greenhills can i find crumpler?

I don't know where digital walker is in greenhills but there's this apple store near nike forums (i think) that carries a few crumplers.

Some Tamrac models could also be found in infomaxx.

Carlo, Lowepro products in Cathay Photo Singapore are almost 1/3 of the Infomaxx prices. You can windowshop in Infoxmaxx Park Square for what you like and have it bought in Singapore with the rest of your stuff.

I believe JT Photo deals with Lowepro while Stronghand deals with Tamrac, if I'm not mistaken.

Better check this out http://cambags.com (http://cambags.com/) if you're not yet sure what type of bag do you need. (link courtesy of Mr. Dave_D)

It's the other way around... JT sells Tamrac and Stronghand sells LowePro.

To update the thread further.

In Megamall, there is a small stall near Infomax that sells Case Logic (http://www.caselogic.com/photo_video/slr_cases/category_search/index.cfm?N=20026019) camera bags aside from the usual laptop and PDA cases.

In particular, They sell the Case Logic SLRC-4
http://a1472.g.akamaitech.net/f/1472/124/4h/images.ebags.com/images/products/57080_axlrg.jpg

http://a1472.g.akamaitech.net/f/1472/124/4h/images.ebags.com/images/products/57080_cxlrg.jpg

Upon inspecting it, it had better separators for the lenses and the padding was thicker than both the tamrac and lowepro. That orange bungee cord could probably hold a tripod as well.

Oh... it also fits a 15.4" laptop and is priced at around P 5,300.00

Definetely merits a serious 2nd look the next time I go there.

its right beside magoos pizza in parksquare 1, mercury drug entrance.

btw i went to digital walker in parksquare and was not at all impressed with the style and materials of the Crumpler bags. they seem more oriented towards females. anyway i found their padding to be insufficient and materials kinda cheap. not worth it imho.

also went to JT photoworld and checked out the complete line of tamrac bags. got their pricelist and they are very competitive but i found there bags a bit boring. they also scream "CAMERA"

surprisingly enough i found the Case Logics to have the best design and materials. still going to do more window shopping but im leaning towards the acse logics at digital walker. priced 2500-3500.

Personally, I find Crumpler bags cool in that they are, in fact, heavily padded and the bags don't scream "I have a camera in my bag!" :D

I have Lowepro bags too but only use them if I have to bring all my gear. For short trips, I just carry a camera and 2 lenses and use my Crumpler 7mdh. :D

Ha ha ha... I don't think you'll like it.

I'm using a Lowepro Belt system with sliplock cases... TOTALLY GEEKY. I used to put all the lenses in a Slingshot 200AW but my back isn't as strong for the long haul.

So now I just keep the light lenses in the slingshot and wear the belt to hold the big glass on one side and my tripod on the other.

Totally self sufficient since the shoots I go to now means the car isn't nearby anymore.

The advantage of the Case Logic is it doesn't look like a camera bag but not in the same way as Crumpler. It looks like a normal backpack so can still be low profile. The set-up (where to put camera and lenses) is very interesting. Of course, this is just the impression I get by looking at the pic. It may change if I see an actual unit.

That's interesting. I was actually particularly drawn to the style. I prefer carrying my stuff messenger style. Also, I wanted a more low profile camera bag. I picked a neutral color, though. (Not for style or anything like that. I was just concerned that the other colors would show dirt more readily.) :)

i second that. i didn't choose a neutral color but choose a flashy red one instead. i don't like lugging around a fricking heavy backpack, so i use a messenger.

Typical material for a laptop bag when I inspected it. Only the Lowepro has the raincoat on some models. It should be good for a mild rainshower, but not a torrent or a unintentional dunk in the river or ocean.

Already have one of the Pelican 1500+ series, bigat Dave:D. I'm drawn to the Case logic pack cuz of the neat body and lens "caddies" or just finding an excuse to spend more I suppose. Carlo understands:)

I've tried opening the Dryzone 100 and it's quite difficult. But it does a very good job of waterproofing your gear. I purchased an affordable Bobcat drybag (with backback straps) and a cheap "Happy Outdoor" (a Chinese brand) drybag at that outdoor shop in Park Square. I just stuff my cam bags or gear into them to waterproof during boat rides.

One thing I wish that the crumpler messenger type bag will have is a zipped covering or atleast an additional padded flap for the main compartment as the top flap isn't very tight. It is so easy for dust and debris to get in. Of course , it will make the taking out of the camera a bit more cumbersome but the added peace of mind is invaluable :)

There's a wide variety to choose from at Crumplers (Bonifacio High Street) whether these are the messenger types or knapsacks. You can also check out North Face backpacks with laptop compartments.

I suggest you google several sites of these (Samsonite, Tamrac, Northface, Crumpler, etc) before heading to stores. That's what I did. Made it easier (and quicker) for me to purchase.

The National Geographic (NG 5162) bag fits a 13.5" MacBook without the sleeve (although you can try -- it's rather tough, though!) and has a LOT (seven actually) of pockets for accesories and other stuff you'd carry along when you're shooting -- a tripod and 2 pullout side pouches for water bottles. The rain? Hmmm, it doesn't look like it's waterproof, and I haven't dared use it when it's pouring. That's where my LowePro comes in. :)

The problem with the National Geographic backpack is that someone could easily sneak up behind you, unzip the backpack and steal your gear. I prefer backpacks like the Crumpler Karachi Outpost where the zipper is on the other side, preventing anyone from opening the backpack while you're wearing it.

No, Koya. As we saw yesterday, it's weather-proof (semi, I guess) as well. And my gears didn't accumulate moist, thanks perhaps to the expired dessicant you gave me. Hahahaha!

i have the computrekker AW+, which i think is a little larger than the AW version. its well made, and my 15" Mac book pro fits like a glove in the rear compartment, but in my personal opinion i dont like traveling with it there, if my cam bag is stuffed with lots of camera gear. i find the weight of the ger atop the computer, plus the tension on the laptop that my occur while wearing it strapped to the body a little much.

my laptop has a slight curvature to it, and i gander it came about due to a long trip when i was wearing all my cam gear while walking through an airport terminal.

i much rather prefer to keep cameras in the bag, and my laptop in my 'incase' laptop bag.

just my 2 cents...

Choosing your next lens or camera is often quite easy, you often know what you want, but when it comes to choosing a new camera bag at least I can be confused and have a really hard time deciding.

Camera bags can be one of the most difficult pieces of equipment to choose. No camera bag is made to fit every occasion. In my situation I always carry a laptop going to office everyday, but sometimes I wanted to carry my dslr. but the problem my simple dslr setup cannot fit in my laptop bag, and I find almost all the camera with laptop bag available here in the market are quite bulky, just like lowepro fastpack's, kata 465-467, or crumpler.

So I will here talk about what is the smallest camera with laptop bag, do we have here in the market that will fit simple 1 camera body and 1 kitlens with flashgun and a laptop 13" to 15"?

suggestions? :):):)

This is a bag I picked up a office depot on clearance for $19.99 so thats around 800peso

anyhow I went down to wal-mart and bought 1 16x16x4 block of foam. and bought 1 yard of black soft nylon. cut it up to make a small camera compartment to hold my D90, nikkor 12-24, 50mm f1.8, and 55-200VR, Vivitar DF340Z flash, Panasaurus Pan head. and my 15.4" Asus M50SV laptop and AC adaptor and a OCZ laser mouse, Sony PSP, DSLR cleaning kit, usb cables, DIY flash diffusers, and tools to put the panasaurus together. everything fits with plenty of room to spare in the main compartment where the camera is.

Plenty of Padding on the back of the bag, in the laptop compartment and in the main compartment plus all the extra padding from my DIY DSLR insert.

on a sidenote. with everything in there its heavy as hell. I'm talkin at least 15lbs or more. not fun to carry around. but i guess its not a small bag. but it is pretty thin. its really wide because its a laptop bag. but its also thinner than a lowepro Fastpack 250 and not as tall either. and it definately doesnt look like a camera bag just a big black bulky thing

The Lowepro Compudaypack looks small to me.
A friend was able to fit a D90 , 18-105, 85 1.8, SB800 and a 15.4 wide laptop.
I believe Kata also has a new smaller version of their DR 467, the DR 466.

I would suggest going to either Well's Photo (Magallanes) for Lowepro, JT Photo (Makati) for Tamrac and Island Photo (Salcedo) as these stores seem to carry the more extensive display for the camera bags they offer.

I'm thinking of buying a backup bag to my Primus AW backpack whentraveling internationally. First, it should carry a laptop (my primaryconcern), second, additional gears. The bulk of my stuff will be in myPrimus while the additional bag will be my backup and/or walkaround bagwhen the Primus is too heavy to be useful. I would prefer a shoulderbag so I could carry it with me together with the Primus in my back.Rollers are too expensive at the moment and would be too bulky if I'mgoing to just carry the laptop alone. As for the laptop size, I don'tknow. I'll be buying it on my trip. Maybe a 16.4 inch at max? a 15 inchor a 13 at minimum, I have yet to consider the size.
Right now I'm going thinking of getting Think Tank's Urban Disguise60. As I haven't seen the actual product but based from measurements,it's the same size as my Crumpler 7 Mil. From the reviews, it could fita 17 inch Macbook Pro, but what about Sony's, Toshiba's and the likewith a "gripped camera" with lens in place? If I want to bring JUST thelaptop, could the Urban Disguise be folded flat to minimize unwantedspace? I have seen with my own eyes Lowepro's Classified 250 but it'stoo darn BIG for my build (and when just carrying the laptop alone).

Any other suggestions?

Additionally, before when I travel, I always check in my tripod case(Think Tank Bazooka). As per airport rules, would the tripod case becounted as "1" carry on aside from the Primus backpack + laptopshoulder bag? I didn't saw this on TSA's website. I'll be traveling toAmerica this summer and we like to bring a LOT of checked in baggage.

I'd suggest the Think Tank Urban Disguise 60 Shoulder bag type but with a special harness you can make it into a backpack. It has rain cover to shield from the elements. It can carry a laptop and camera stuff. Great as carry-on baggage on plane trips. Focus One Marketing distributes Think Tank Products here in manila. I'm getting an Urban Disguise 70 Pro though it may not carry a laptop. go check out their website just look for "think thank photo".

To be totally honest, a camera bag is the last thing to ask others for opinions as each need is different. Each one of us will need a different bag depending on the situation presented and the gear required to be carried. A casual weekend stroll-shoot will demand a different bag versus a daily bag that requires a laptop compartment, ditto when you start doing short travels and long travels.

Photographers often either go through a lot of bags or buy several bags. I suggest you buy a bag that can fit more than you need now but still manageable enough to convince yourself to bring out in almost any situation.

One thing I wish that the crumpler messenger type bag will have is a zipped covering or atleast an additional padded flap for the main compartment as the top flap isn't very tight. It is so easy for dust and debris to get in. Of course , it will make the taking out of the camera a bit more cumbersome but the added peace of mind is invaluable :)It's one of the things I love about crumpler MDHs. Quick draw. :)

http://www.imaging-resource.com/NPICS1/BUMBLEBEE_222_ULTRA_LIGHT_2_L.JPG

I may have found the right camera laptop bag for the equipment that I have right now and may be a slight room for more, if any, with Kata's ultra light pro collection (Bumblebee UL-222). Since my upgrade this year, my old Tamrac Aero 80 can no longer hold all 3 of my lenses, a DSLR with battery grip, flash, tripod (on certain occasions) and a 15" laptop. Moreover, I'd normally reserve a small compartment for extra shirts, sweater and toiletries. At first glance, the Bumblebee UL-22 has Crumpler's trendy look but a bit more professional because of its neutral color and weather proof material. It also has the tough and sturdy appeal of Clik Elite bags and, of course, Kata's reputation.

Before this bag, I was looking at the Vanguard Uprise 48, Lowepro compuprimus aw, Lowepro compurover and the Lowepro fastpack 350. I felt all of the above can carry loads of equipment except that at 5' 7" I feel so small with the compurover and compuprimus. The fastpack looks boring (it's not a major factor but it matters to me) and nearly bought the Vanguard Uprise 48 until I saw this.

On the other hand, this bag is not really small and you can't grab your camera as quickly as you would with other bags. It does come with a neck strap that attaches to the bag's front harness, a weather cover and an attachable pocket for your tripod. The aluminum alloy frame looks very solid and fits with the bag quite well. But, I'm not sure how practical or useful the spring steel spine is. The camera is placed at the bottom compartment and facing up, so an impact guard protection might have been useful. This bag is the lightest of its class, understandably so because of all the light materials used and aero paddings. However, I feel that the gecko harness looks too rubbery and in my experience rubbers do not really last very long.

All in all, I'd recommend this bag to be one of your choices if ever you have the same requirements as I do.

Crumpler 5mdh or 6mdh for my cam and lenses? - 6mdh, the 5mdh will only fit a body with mid sized lens, a flash, and an extra (small) lens, the 6mdh can fit a lot more.
where can i find Kata, Lowepro, Tamrac bags? - vet specialists distributes lowepro, JT for tamrac, island multi for kata.

wow, thanks for your reply. i think 5mdh is the one you can bring with you even if you have to carry another bag and a luggage. hehe. ideally, should buy one for easy carrying (5mdh) and one that can carry more & weather-proof (lowepro) but that would be too much for a beginner. haha. so, i still don't know which to buy. 6mdh is not that easy to luge around (but not if you're tall) hehe

vet specialist is in gilmore, no way to get there via commute unless you take a cab, if you're commuting, take the LRT 2 till gilmore and walk, but it's a bit of a walk... but there are lowepro showrooms in SM north and megamall i think...

JT is in pasong tamo, makati, past the philippine daily inquirer office, take the jeep going to PRC from buendia-taft, that should take you there...

island multi is in gamboa, behind AIM, across gb1...

the 6mdh is more or less the standard size camera bag... but yeah it will be a bit bulky if you're carrying 2 bags...

you can also opt for a lowepro inverse 100 or 200aw, more or less same size as the 5mdh, but it's all weather, can be used as a shoulder or belt bag...

Hi! i'm a newbie :p i have a d90 with 18-55mm and 50mm f1.8 lenses. i was i search of a bag but still undecided about what bag to buy. So i bought an ETSUMI Cushion Box A for the meantime.

Q: is it okay to carry it around like this? will it damage my camera/lenses when i move around and the box moves around as well. i try to hold the bag as i walk sometimes.

my worry is that the camera is basically suspended (strapped on my shoulder through it's own strap) swinging as i walk. i was told that carrying the camera on my shoulders while moving around may damage the camera due to shock, bounce or hitting the body as i walk. do u guys think so?

most mountaineering shops have them, north face sells them, or you can try rox, see if habagat has them, you can also get them from where you bought your bag, jt has the covers for tamrac, lowepro, thinktank, mostly has built in covers... and kata bags always come with covers.

This is not the first time a man said Crumpler bags are more forwomen, but the first time I heard enough padding. Currentresponse to change for a lot less padding than expected.

I own a crumpler bag(blue) and I don't see myself being effeminate using the bag. What sold me is the thick padding inside that protects my camera insde and outside.
