Since each of us has have our own particular workflow and techniques in post production a lot of us have come to depend on third party plug-ins for Photoshop to make life easier. What plug-in have you come to depend on time and time again?

Mine is Kodak's Digital GEM Airbrush Pro, this baby has saved me a lot of man-hours when retouching people.

Hi Mitz, It is a quick way to do B&W emulating film stock. So when I want some images in B&W i usually use it first (and maybe tweak later)...

Wow! a lot of people using Noise Ninja. I guess digital images are too noisy :) Why do you prefer Noise Ninja over the other softwares like Neat Image?

Randy, thanks for the response. I'll try it sometime. Right now i just use the channel mixer to convert my color images to B&W. BTW, are you still a member of NAPP? Too bad there's no more contest at APC after you won :(

because (at least version 2.0 ha) it has a built in USM filter. compensates for the sharpness lost during the noise filter run. can also use it as a gaussian blur filter for that baby soft skin on faces that just makes you wanna smooch those models' cheeks.

unsolicited advice: after resizing portraits to web size (400x600 pixels portrait orientation), run the noise ninja on auto profile. reduce by 50-75% to reclaim some texture. then run a sharpening USM 100% strenght and .7 radius 0 threshold. perfect for web bound images.

useful really!

In my case, I just use Noise Ninja on the troublesome noise of my Sony F828. But for D2X files I do NR manually in PS. :) And just so happens that the files of my Sony camera respond quicker and more accurately to Noise Ninja NR profiles, based on personal tests and for my own taste of course... Other than that, I think other NR softwares should also work great. One just needs to find the perfect tweak... so to say...

david,

i once shot a sunset scene at iso 800! i forgot to change iso. since i was trying to silhouette a church, i ended up with a largely underexposed shot. and since i was on iso 800, it was somewhat noisy (especially in the shadow areas). i tried noise ninja 2 with the profile for my cam at iso 800. it wasn't satisfying.

months later, i ran the same photo through noiseware. ayun! the photo was just salvaged! i just used the filter's own image analysis for the settings :)

Nik Color Efex or Auto FX Mystical TTC...use this quite often for P&S images that lacks "punch"

Noise Ninja...but I don't expect to use this as often as before as I'm quite satisfied with the noise my D200 produces. With my then D2H, oh boy this plug-in is almost a necessity! ;)

:)

there are noise filters that profile the entire image before making the clean-up. if you are cropping a significant portion of the image, i think it would make sense to just crop first before running the noise filter. makes the noise profiling faster (and more relevant - since you are profiling only from the portion of the photo that you are using).

the important thing to keep in mind is (as the late bruce fraser would emphasize) to noise filter your shot before sharpening.
