i'm not sure if everyone knows about her work already but i just recently came across it (thanks, sir jo) and it just completely blows me away.
cris_servillas 11-26-2006, 04:51 PM a lot of things that a P&S can do. its the creativity that works in the process. without it even a flagship DSLR's cant do anything. i admire michelle's work.
Earl Gonzalez 11-26-2006, 05:00 PM Hi lisa, to give you more inspiration what a PS can do... Try to check the works of Alex Majoli, a Magnum Photographer. :) and be more inspired...
lisa_llarena 11-26-2006, 05:06 PM reading up on him right now. thanks, earl. this is really inspiring. :)
maris lim 11-26-2006, 11:41 PM i tried both domains (they both point to a single website) unfortunately her bandwidth limit has been exceeded. :(
lisa_llarena 11-27-2006, 02:43 PM hey, maris. i hear she gets ridiculous amounts of traffic at her site so that happens a lot. keep trying. i promise it's worth it. :)
tracy_arciaga 11-27-2006, 02:54 PM i tried both domains (they both point to a single website) unfortunately her bandwidth limit has been exceeded. :(
same here....
edric_chen 11-27-2006, 05:18 PM I've seen her site before and she does shoot great pictures. I honestly think people should learn to shoot more with ambient light and stop relying on flash too much. Maybe that would help P&S users to achieve better shots. Just my opinion based on limited experience :)
Her beach shots really are something. She's got that eye that most of us want to have.

maris lim 12-04-2006, 09:51 PM i got to visit her site already! :) are the pics really taken using a p&s camera? because the article where she got featured (http://www.pixelbureau.com/article.php?action=fullnews&showcomments=1&id=134) showed her holding a dslr...
David Tong 12-04-2006, 09:59 PM here's her other photo... nag upgrade na...

Why do most spunky women shoot Canon?!?!?!

yes she uses a canon (forgot the model), however, she did admit that when she is hired to do shoots, like those of tweety de leon, she had to borrow an SLR
but her shots are awesome...just like the great jo avila would say - nasa indian wala sa pana
maxi_sanagustin 12-06-2006, 04:52 AM man i could give her a hand with those cameras.
Earl Gonzalez 12-06-2006, 09:14 AM How much is the premium in total of those gear hanging on her neck? I wonder...
victor d. chanchico 12-12-2006, 01:37 PM i was using a panasonic lumix fx-7 as my first digital cam, time came when i need to get to the next level, i had in my hand a 400d and panasonic fz50 - i bought the last one, why?
i get to have more focusing and composing options than with DSLR, besides, the fz50 looks and feels like a true dslr, anyway, time will come to reach the next level and the next level is a steep one to climb - panasonic DMC L-1 :Dollar: cost? $2k, tax exluded.
anyway, have to make the most of my new baby for the longest time and as the lyrics of a song goes: "love the one you're with" .....

reynald.ngo 12-12-2006, 03:28 PM That photo of Michelle with tons of Canon body is in GenSan a few years back. Trip trip nila yan... those aren't hers'... she still uses her G5 and leases an SLR body from time to time when shooting editorials.

There is an ocean between Mike P and Alex Majoli!!!

Ron Samala 12-13-2006, 02:23 PM I wanna know if its ok just to buy a P&S (prosumer, high-end) cam if you're interested in pursuing a career in photography or a DSLR? Coz I plan to buy a cam and I still havent decided what to buy. A DSLR is kinda out of my budget range, so I'm thinking of just buying a good prosumer cam like Canon S3 IS. Really need help. I'm seriously considering a career in photography and I want to start it soon.
JC Gepte 12-13-2006, 02:40 PM i dunno but in my experience i bought a high end p&s camera, pero after i got a bit more serious with photography (because of school) parang i regret buying it, i should've bought a dslr instead. now i'm stuck with a p&s digicam and a flim slr, but nevertheless that doesn't stop you from taking great pictures.:)
eds_magsayo 12-13-2006, 04:23 PM same here , i bugh myself a p&s but sooner or later bought a dslr.
though very useful parin yung P&S in times when/where i want to travel light :-)
victor d. chanchico 12-13-2006, 05:06 PM the answer to the above ........ because we can still create things like those seen in this website of a point and shoot hobbyist which inspired me to go for it and delay my
move to DSLR level.

Melvin Vivas 12-13-2006, 06:22 PM I think these are not her cameras. This was taken way back. Nagkatuwaan lang tapos pinahawak nung mga photog friends nya yung cam when they were shooting an event.
Yes most of her shots are shot using her G5. Yep the P&S. I'm just not sure if she uses a DSLR now.

maris lim 12-13-2006, 09:48 PM i think sometimes a p&s can be better than a dslr because it can let you just concentrate on composition instead of worrying about all the technical details. and since you can take it virtually anywhere you can capture spur of the moment shots easily. but of course a dslr is a necessity if you want to take the next step. just my two cents. :)

strongly agree..... more creativity in composing, worry free on the technicals, result..... photo shot in maximum allowable vantage point, form, depth or height, etc, etc, he he he..... you don't make "dapa" in grass fields for nearly ground level
subjects and more too long to mention.

lisa_llarena 12-19-2006, 05:54 PM my two cents: as much as i appear to love my p&s, for me it's really just a matter of trying to make the best of and learning with what i have and seeking the appropriate inspiration. nobody's ever going to hear me say point & shoots are better. i'd take a dslr if someone gave me one. haha. (santa, if you're reading this, i've been a good girl all year.) but since the most action my photos will ever see is my wall (or some poor relative's), i'm not going to pine away for one. it'd be a waste of time. i'd do better learning as much as i can with what i have right now. :)
p.s. any more links? :D

Exact, same sentiments as yours... :)
As long as I have something to shoot with, I'm pretty happy about that actually... Getting better gear is just icing on the cake...
I think that icing is coming soon for me, though... But my S40 will never leave my side hehe.
maris lim 12-19-2006, 11:20 PM it's nice to know that p&s shooters are not left behind in this forum. :)
dindo panganiban 12-21-2006, 05:07 PM hi, everybody! im new to this site and right now, i still cant decide if im gonna buy a dslr or the sony h5.
any idea on how the sony h5 performs?
thank you!
Bobby Timonera 12-21-2006, 05:46 PM Ako, wanna go back to P&S. For personal work, that is. My dSLRs and their big and heavy lenses and flashguns stay at home most of the time. Trying to save some moolah to get me a FinePix F30. I missed the days when I had an Oly C3000z, in a small bag that's always attached to my waist. Always quick on the draw everytime a photo op comes my way. Now with my 10-kilo dSLR system, I could only wish I took this and that shot.
Of course a dSLR wins hands down, in terms of image quality, faster AF, and a host of other features. But it loses most of the time coz it stays at home most of the time. A not so technically good image is still better than no image at all (which you were not able to take coz your dSLR was at home).
Bobby T.
victor d. chanchico 12-22-2006, 03:12 PM yes bobby... you nailed it. what more could be hurting than missing a a shot for once in a blue moon subject appearing right infront of your eyes and you want to reach for something and it is not there beside you to capture it on that fleeting time.
so maybe some of those DSLR unit owners will have a back-up p&s to lean on in these cases, he he he. :)

fidel_mercado 12-22-2006, 03:27 PM Good thread.
I have to admit, I'm thinking of buying a compact P&S for those times when I'm with my friends or family. During these times, I want to be as unobtrusive as possible and be part of the group instead of being the "official photographer". Plus, I've missed a lot of candids since I chose not to bring the DSLR.
Michelle gave a talk in our school on basic composition techniques. She's kind and very approachable plus inspiring as well.
Took a look at your flickr site Vic, liked your street scenes etc. set. :)
David Tong 12-22-2006, 03:46 PM I love the fact that you can just put a P&S anywhere, shoot almost anywhere and not worry about "babying" the camera that much since your hands will almost cover the whole cam anyway...
P&S with IS and High ISO, best combo for daily use :D
archie_apostol 12-22-2006, 04:27 PM it's nice to know that p&s shooters are not left behind in this forum. :)
That's the spirit... even phone camera's are welcome since they still are Digital Camera's
Am i right mga bossing?
