View Full Version : Sigma 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM
PHIL ESPEJO 07-09-2009, 08:29 PM Has anybody had any experience with this lens? I know it's pretty new. I was thinking of getting this lens instead of the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 due to after-sales service issues and happens to be a better and more improved version of its predecessor, the Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM.
Any comments?
sherwindy 07-09-2009, 08:50 PM i got the older sigma 10-20 4-5.6 hsm in nikon mount just a week ago, was thinking about waiting for this newer version but was turned off because of the 82mm filter mount which will not accept cokin P filter rings (max 77mm), not to mention it is more expensive and 82mm uv and cpl filters are waaay expensive.
the older f4-5.6 version seems to be a favorite for some pro wedding photographers, so if it's good enough for them, its certainly good enough for me :)
for true sharpness though, you might wanna get the tokina 11-16 2.8, a friend of mine is selling his tamron 10-24 to upgrade to the faster tokina.
PHIL ESPEJO 07-09-2009, 09:22 PM Frankly, I really wanted to get the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. The problem is... who will do the servicing here when servicing already becomes necessary... even if it comes with a warranty card? After-sales service is very important for me. Also, in the current condition that my eyes already are, I'm sure that the difference in sharpness between the two won't be something that would really be of great significance on my part as a hobbyist. If the image is already sharp enough to suit me, SHARPER may no longer be necessary.
sherwindy 07-09-2009, 10:32 PM IMO the most important feature of an UWA lens is its widest possible FOV, so the 10-20 vs 11-16 would mean the 10-20 has a wider 1.5mm FOV on nikon crop bodies.
i'd rather have the wider FOV than sharpness as long as we're talking about UWA, for portrait zooms though its the other way around.
re. tokina, who's the philippine distributor? pixelpro? if they are, then maybe they do the servicing.

I've been surfing the net almost all day long yesterday... and still couldnt' find Tokina's authorized dealer and service center in the Phils. So, I think I'm going for the Sigma 10-20mm F/3.5 EX DC HSM where after-sales service is guaranteed.

Well, after further reading of reviews from different websites, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 still wins! The only advantage the Sigma 10-20mm has is being the widest. I finally ordered the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 thru eBay and should reach my address hopefully next week.
I guess I'll just have to be very careful with the handling of the lens and worry about servicing later on.
Ronald Suello 07-10-2009, 01:50 PM no horror stories yet heard on Tokina 11-16 (knock on wood)..... it's built like a tank! you won't regret your decision....

I really do hope I own't regret it. That's the good thing about REVIEWS... the pros and cons just get to the surface... makes life easier when making selections and decisions.
jpenaflorida 07-10-2009, 07:27 PM Is this already available in JT? Hmm wondering on how much this baby will be. I'm currently in the process of (elimination :D) buying a lens. It's been the old 10-20 4-5.6 and a Tokina 12-24 F4 (leaning towards this btw). If this baby is superior to this 2, this lens maybe a game changer I think.

Jerome Tan (JT) himself emailed me and said it's priced a t P31.8k. Now, he didn't say if he already has it in his stores but he did mention about receiving some new lens stock in August as per Sigma's production schedule. Why don't you ask him yourself... here's his email address... jt1@jtphotoworld.com.

DanieL Dy 08-12-2009, 07:59 PM which one is better canon ef-s 10-22mm or this new sigma 10-20mm? in terms of over all performance?
michaelcruz 08-13-2009, 09:34 PM having tested both, personally i think canon is better when it comes to overall performance... But the price is where the sigma wins... that's why i bought it over canon :)

michaelcruz 08-14-2009, 01:40 PM the old sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 filter size is 77mm.... but the f3.5 is 82mm :(
