use a focus test chart

http://focustestchart.com/chart.html

are you saying you have a problem or want to find out if you do?

I'm planning to buy this lens from someone and want to know if it has any focusing problems. Thanks!

it's best to test the lens first, see if it front focuses or back focuses, test the focus speed, the sigma hsm II is pretty quick. and check if it hunts even in well lighted situations

Yes, I'll be doing that. Thanks!

based on experience, from getting a couple of friends the same lens, the ver 2 rarely had problems in terms of focusing. coming from the ver 1 of the lens, i can say that sigma improved the iq of the lens and it has less focusing issues compared to the older brother :)

but as they always say, better be safe than sorry :)

having a real hard time looking for the Nikkor 80-200, i think im off to getting this lens. Ive read good reviews about this too. I would be buying one from Mayer's. Problem is Mang Ramon wouldn't open the box unless you're not buying the item. Im really buying this but what if i get a bad copy? Any helps please..

why not buy at JTPhotoworld? they can calibrate on the spot, in case there is focus issue....

not a problem if you're really bent on getting the lens. just test it thoroughly. you don't have to pay for it if tis a "bad copy"

i was able to buy at Mayer's. Good thing i was able to get a good copy..(well, thats what i think basing from the results i get from the test chart which i've done twice). Before buying, i went to different shops to look for a Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 which was the original plan. But then, there was a Php14k differencial sa price. I dont have deep pocket so its an issue to me. When i tested.. it really focuses fast. IQ wasn't great but not bad..for me better than average as others may have stated. Overall, i am not disappointed in my purchase. The extra Php14k ive saved.. ill add for my UWA purchase.

Even if the lens has a calibration problem (I hope you don't), JT Photo would still calibrate it without charge as long as you tell them that you brought it from Meyers and you bought it just recently. The owner of JT Photo (the person who calibrated my lens) is quite a nice guy and very accommodating compared to mang Ramon who is moody/grumpy sometimes.

We have the same lens model as you have and it's slightly front focused (also bought from Meyers). The calibration greatly improved the AF quality but it is still not as sharp as our Sigma 50mm 1.4 @ f2.8 (yup not a fair comparison :)). My camera might need calibration as well so that might explain why it is still slightly front focused at 200 wide open (with disabled micro adjustment). Prior to calibration my micro adjustment is around -20 (and still slightly front focused) after calibration it is just - 4. I have yet to take more shots to verify if my settings now is all good.

Does anyone know of any less bulkier tripod collar that fits?
Like the 3rd party ones designed for the Canon 70-200 F4 variants?
