i like the effect of this plug-in but unfortunately it's windows only. :sigh: does anyone know how to do this manually? or are there plug-ins similar to this effect for mac? thanks in advance guys

You can achieve this by duplicating the current layer you're working on and changing it's blending mode to Screen at 100% opacity... Then manipulate the Red Channel of that layer by using curves... That's it, it should emulate the effect... But you can certainly do more, if you experiment with the other channels of your image as well... You can do this in a number of ways...
