Its my pleasure to introduce DPP #26 that is dedicated primarily to event photography and most especially shooting concerts and weddings. This magazine is at the printers and should be on the stands next week roughly on Fri/June 12. The energy of a concert often produces the most dramatic and striking imagery and Issue 26 will show you how to take these shots.

If you are into weddings, we go beyond the basic How To's of wedding photography but instead focus on how to make the bride look beautiful, which is the most important part of any wedding album. As usual the rest of the magazine is packed with information so pick up a copy when this issue hits the stands next week. I am proud to say that DPP ROCKS!

And before I forget, Joel Garcia, thanks for the wonderful cover image. You Da Man!

I remember Joel posting in the E-Heads concert thread something about being "in"/or was it "part of" the concert. That would be why his shots are magnificent

Nino Carandang just told me before that I’ll be just interviewed for concert photography on tips and insights on how I shoot prepare and visualize an image and just recently, I found out that my photograph will be the cover, “ETO NA!” (This is it!) GOD IS REALLY GOOD!

I hope this issue serves as a reference to those people who want to learn the art of shooting Concert/wedding/Event.

INCUBUS : Manila Light Grenades Pacific Rim Tour 2008 concert held in Araneta Coliseum.

During that night Concert Photographers only allowed to shoot the 1st 3 songs of their set after that...no snaps allowed...very tight security so the pressure are tremendous I need to deliver.

As the band played their first song, I almost forgot to shoot! = ) I’m hooked staring at the band for about 3 seconds before I realized I am there to photograph one of my favorite alternative rock band. It was an Awesome Experience!

At the middle of the 2nd song...I took this shot (the new DPP Cover) before my 24-105 lens auto focus malfunction.

Luckily I have a back up camera my ever dependable 400D to finish the set.

Almost forgot...THANK YOU FOR THE PEOPLE WHO REPLIED IN THIS THREAD! GOD BLESS YOU MORE!

I had a chance to talk to the DPP main office staff at Makati over the phone.

She promised to send it my copy of this issue 26 separately and expected to receive it by tomorrow since it was my second time experienced late deliveries of my subscriptions with them.

She told me that problem of late deliveries caused by change of new management of LBC which they are also having problems following up for their deliveries for their clients.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping that tomorrow that my DPP mag will be in my door steps.

It's really hard to hold on to her promises cause this was the second time she promised that I will received my copy the other day.

So for those who wait for their subscriptions keep on calling the head office.

Just got my copy....It's worth it...For those who don't have their copies yet, hurry up before it runs out! :D

hi guys! i've just gone through my #26 - mind if i share some comments? hope they make subscribers like me more satisfied (in the long-term) with the mag.

first, i seen that the on-time delivery of the mag, especially to subscribers, is still a major area for improvement. i was over at fully booked BHS last weekend and was glad to see that the issue was already there. i thought to myself, "if the bookstore already got their copies, then my subscription copy of the same issue should reach me in within the next 1-3 days".

i waited for it on tuesday and wednesday, but none came. i finally got it just yesterday, friday, or 6 days after seeing it on the magazine shelf.:Oops:

now, i don't know if other subscribers will agree with me on this, but i felt a bit disappointed that it arrived later than i hoped it would. aside from the lower price, i subscribed to the mag thinking that it would get to me earlier than if i bought it off the shelf.

now, dpp is the only mag i've subscribed to, and i've been very, very satisfied with it, but shouldn't it be the case that if you subscribe to a mag, one of your benefits is getting the issue before everyone else - that is, those who don't subscribe to it and have to buy it at a magazine store?

secondly, i like the feature on concert photography, but i was looking for a portion there similar to what appeared in the issue on urban landscapes (possibly the best issue for me) - some contact details on looking for your own concert events to shoot in. i was thinking along the lines of getting some input from concert/event production outfits on how aspiring concert photogs can work with them better. sort of like "according to (place concert producers name here), interested event photographers should ...". in addition, maybe it's just me, but has the readers gallery gotten smaller? i mean, only 2 pages worth of concert photographs from the readers? plus it came several pages after the main cover feature.

and finally on an unrelated note (i'll just include it here), it appears that there wasn't much hoopla or publicity when dpp released issue #25. some other mags celebrate reaching such a milestone. next up for dpp is issue #50. is something being thought of for that next accomplishment (or not)?

I suggest call the main office to follow up it works for me.

I called twice so that they will made some attention to it.

It needs a prayer and follow up calls to make the LBC delivery man appear in your door steps with your copy handed down to you

Let me address the subscriber issue. LBC had a change of contact person internally and the person who handles our account was transferred to a different department so thus the delay on this issue. It shouldn't happen for the next issue. Unfortunately, it had to happen on Issue 26 because the event passes were inserted and everyone is anxious to get theirs.

As for subscribers getting their issues before the magazine stands, sometimes you will and sometimes you don't. This is how it works. Magazines are delivered to our office and we immediately contact LBC for pickup. Pickup is usually done the next day. It will take LBC another day to process and deliver. So 2-3 days have expired. Within those two or three days we also serve our magazine stand accounts so you may in fact see a magazine in a stand a day or two before delivery of subscription (Issue 26 was the exception).

Now should we hold the magazines in our office until all subscribers get their magazines? Time is money so the faster we get the magazines into the shelves the more time we have to generate sales. I hope everyone can understand this. Subscribers have the advantage of cheaper pricing and the security of never missing an issue. DPP achieves almost a 100% sell through in every magazine outlet that we deliver so if you don't subscribe there is a good chance you will miss an issue.

Fortunately I got my copy of ROCK ON issue. Yoohoo!!

I bought it from BOOKSALE- a bookshop at Robinson's Cagayan de Oro.
There were 2 copies left when I came in to see.

BOOKSALE started out displaying DPP's since issue 22 thus it was on that issue where
this addiction of collecting DPP commenced. :)

My issues 01 and 10 and issue 73 of DPP UK was given by a friend.

thanks for your own thoughts on the situation, sir nick. you guys are already doing an excellent job putting the past 26 issues together.

in no way did my concerns over the "late delivery" of my subscription issues ever lead me to think about not patronizing dpp anymore (i can't afford to!). it's just that there are times when i i have to stop myself from buying an issue from off the shelf when i'm eagerly waiting for my copy.

just thinking, how about sending copies directly to LBC from the printers, instead of having to drop off the issues at your offices first, thereby saving a day? since they already have the details for all subscribers, the printers can set aside a specific number that LBC can pick up directly from them, and then deliver the same day.

i will easily attest to the benefits of being a dpp subscriber - and i will always be willing to put in a good word to anyone considering to do the same.:)

For those who may still be interested in getting the latest DPP issue and who happen to be near SM Sucat, there are three copies available at the magazine wall by the entrance of the Hypermart, and the guy who watches over them says there is one more inside the Hypermart itself, at the magazine stand near the school supplies section.

If you are looking for back issues your best bet might be FILBARS since they are one of our largest customers. Warning though DPP usually sells out. I don't know about Booksale but you can try, however, don't count on them selling back issues of DPP at a discounted price.
