I was shooting some birds at Macabebe wetlands (Pampanga) when I noticed that atmospheric haze was just enough for a safe shot at the setting sun. It's normally very dangerous to look or shoot directly at the sun without darkening filters.

20D + 500 f4 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/9, ISO 200, 1/60 sec

nice Romy! didn't use the Sigmonsters this time? could the sunspot be more visible if the sigma was used?

Thanks, Willy. When I shot these pics, I didn't notice that there were sunspots captured. It was only after posting the pics in some forums when I learned that sunspots are not easy to photograph with this amount of detail. The atmospheric conditions and sun position have to be just right to get these types of pics, and this happens quite rarely.

If I had known this, I'd have used the Sigmonster + stacked TCs (2263 mm) and get more detail, like this moonshot:
