View Full Version : In Dire Need of Help
Marco_Ingco 11-20-2006, 10:28 AM Guys,
I am in dire need of help. I have tried everything I could to restore the following photo but all of my efforts went in vain. I am left with no one to turn to but to all of you helpful and photoshop gurus.
http://www.f3mphotography.com/~dpp/tablehop/DSC_0148_small.jpg
Out of the 20 tables we hopped to, this is the only one that failed. While I was shooting this, I have checked and re-checked my camera settings and I know that it's good. I even upped my shutter speed to 1/125 and still my camera doesn't want to go that fast. I was really scared that something went wrong with my camera so I took several shots of this table and all I end up with is always something like this. I decided to stop the hopping after this table and see what's wrong with my cam. I found out that my battery is very low already although my indicator says differently (I have a D70). I was afraid to disturb this group again for a reshoot so I just continued on with the other tables. I didn't know that these people were very important people to the couple and they keep on pushing me to fix this.
I have the full-sized file here... http://www.f3mphotography.com/~dpp/tablehop/DSC_0148.jpg
Please, please, please... anyone who can help me I will never forget. Please email me the fixed file here (marcojgingco@yahoo.com).
Thanks a lot.
Marco
Earl Gonzalez 11-20-2006, 10:34 AM The biggest dilemma I can see in this photo would be the lady on the lower left side... Not promising anything here Bro. but I'll see what I can do. :)
Marton_Benitez 11-20-2006, 10:39 AM bummer... Since you took several shots of this table can you post the others as well? In case we might be able to do surgery and combine the the lady on the lower left with another pic of her with out the light streak.
brianmike_lim 11-20-2006, 10:41 AM I agree Earl, the lady on the lower left requires almost a remake of her lower chin and upper torso. As for the others, it's not that diffcult
Marco_Ingco 11-20-2006, 10:52 AM Thanks very much guys for your very prompt replies. Here's the only one I could find where that lady's head is in a better view. The rest are much worse...

Agreed... specially if you have a shot were said lady isn't affected much. :)
nino_carandang 11-20-2006, 10:55 AM we'll just mask some of the parts in and out of the photo. can we see the series of shots you took?
Earl Gonzalez 11-20-2006, 10:55 AM mmmmmmmm... Dang that's indeed nasty! :)
I'll send you something later...

Nino,
That's the only 2 I can salvage. The other two are worse. Yung iba kasi after kong mag-shoot, nagagalaw ko kaagad ang camera (first one I didn't know that shutter speed was slow and then I tried again... that's when I was trying to figure out what's wrong). Those were the last 2 of the 4 shots I took.
Medyo nagtataka na nga yung mga tao sa kin kasi kalikot ako ng kalikot ng camera ko eh... actually, kabang-kaba na ako noon.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help.
Marco

Thanks Brian!
raymund_madronero 11-20-2006, 11:58 AM Hi Marco... just wondering if you already identified the cause of the malfunction...
Good thing, most of the faces were not damaged...

I think it was because of the low battery which my camera failed to notify me. When I changed the battery, it worked fine on succeeding table hops.
zandy_marantal 11-20-2006, 01:15 PM I can't help you much Marco, but I wish you the best of luck in getting these recovered.
cris_servillas 11-20-2006, 01:23 PM goodluck! ill see what i can do.

David Tong 11-20-2006, 04:09 PM Wow, great fix... big improvement from before... Can't wait to see the other fixes as well.
Can't you blame it on a supernatural being with an "R" in its first name hehe, just trying to lighten things up...
MelvinSevilla 11-20-2006, 04:14 PM @amiel
wow, that's a huge improvement nga. Can you share what you have done? I have been trying to learn some PS myself.
But this is quite impressive talga. :D
jerrytieng 11-20-2006, 04:19 PM Amazing work Amiel!
tracy_arciaga 11-20-2006, 04:24 PM nice work amiel.. how long did that take you?
amiel lapuebla 11-20-2006, 04:27 PM hehe, thanks. :) but its nothing but a combination of patch, stamp, a little bit of vanishing point tool filter and a huge load of "tiyaga". its pretty rough pa nga eh... pero i couldn't take all the editing fun from mr. marco. :p "share the pain" that's what i always say.
how long did it take me? well, it took my lunch break and a couple of hours more... but it was quite fun in a way.
Earl Gonzalez 11-20-2006, 09:15 PM Amiel Lapuebla ROCKS! :) Excellent work on the surgery Bro.! :)
Aris Guerrero 11-20-2006, 09:42 PM i was also wondering about the "R". seems too slow a shutter speed to produce that R thingy.
and very nice job amiel!
Marco_Ingco 11-20-2006, 10:12 PM That is a vast improvement indeed! I am very grateful Amiel! I really really appreciate you taking more than a couple of hours working on this plus your lunch time too... (maybe I can treat you to lunch when I come there in the Philippines?)
I am also excited to see what the others would have done. But this one works very nicely already.
I'll PM you the password to my ftp site so you can just upload it there.
I owe you BIG TIME!
Thanks a lot!
Marco
Nick_Espino 11-20-2006, 10:19 PM Amiel. great job. Now I know where to go for my many screw-ups.
paolo navarrete 11-20-2006, 11:06 PM i had the same problem with my batt pack for my d1. i'd fully charge it, the lcd would show a full bat, but when i'd shoot with it the batt meter would fall to half power and then back to full again. the camera could get the power it needed to process and save the image. the result was an almost black image with jsut a few squiggles on the center. this was the result no matter what i did. i did the 'refresh-charge, refresh-charge, refresh-charge' cycle for the en1 battery hoping to revie it. itwas useless. the pack, upon an autopsy by my dad, showed 6 cells. he said that one cell was most likely dead but i'd ahve to replace them all since they were all welded together. i found 6 reaplcement cells in raon. i can now shoot with the new cells. yippe!

Marco, looking at the photo retouched by Amiel (which is very very good!) I think you can still reduce the light streaks coming from the candle on the table, by using the first photo you uploaded here. Since the hands of the man (in black suit and checkered tie) standing at the back row and the arms of the lady (in dark colored dress with floral design) seated are not covered by the streak of light, you can superimposed it over the photo retouched by Amiel and use those unaffected areas to further improve it.
Raffy Crucillo 11-21-2006, 08:28 AM Great work, Amiel.
Princess Jarlyn Young 11-21-2006, 08:57 AM amiel.. i salute you!!! whoa.. nice~
