View Full Version : Calling all E-1 owners
Norman_P._Aquino 11-19-2006, 08:51 PM Would like to ask if any E-1 owner has tried exposures of at least 60 seconds. Because in my case, hot pixels abound even with noise reduction. In bulb mode (I've tried three, five and the maximum eight minutes), the picture is unusable because of the hot pixels. Tok's E-300 does not seem to suffer from the same problem at eight minutes. I'm thinking of having the unit serviced by Servimax/Axis Global before the warranty expires in the first week of December. Thanks!
P.S.
I'll post a sample image later.
Cheers,
Norman
Norman_P._Aquino 11-19-2006, 11:09 PM Here is an image shot at five minutes (311.4 seconds), F8, ISO100, NR on. Just resized to 720x540. No sharpening applied. Hoping to get a feedback from other E-1 owners!

Tok Paler 11-19-2006, 11:14 PM have you checked whether the noise is fixed or random?
Norman_P._Aquino 11-20-2006, 12:01 AM have you checked whether the noise is fixed or random?
Some hot pixels are on the same place in different pictures. The others are not always there (depending on the shutter speed). I have tried pixel mapping, no effect.
Tok Paler 11-20-2006, 01:03 PM hmmm... looks like you're the only E-1 user here in DPP besides, Randy at least =b
i think you better have it checked... whether fixed or random, that shouldn't happen with NR turned on...
good luck
Norman_P._Aquino 11-21-2006, 03:59 PM How E-300/E-500/E-330 owners? Can you post some black pictures (with lens cap on) at 3 and 5 minutes?
Here is mine:

Tok Paler 11-22-2006, 12:57 AM shot at ISO100, F11, SHQ on default settings... i just noticed that bright spot on the upper left corner, not sure what it is though

That is what is called an "amp glow". This normally appears on long exposures resulting in heat build-up of parts close to the CCD/CMOS. Nothing that would damage the camera though.
Jared Posion 11-22-2006, 02:59 PM norman, almost the same results with TOK, however in default settings but with Noise Reduction its all clear. i remember you told me that you had it fixed before, perhaps some mechanism was affected by the repair, better have it check before warranty expires.
Tok Paler 11-22-2006, 03:36 PM oh! ok! =) thanks Zandy! for a minute i thought i was gonna have it serviced as well =b
Norman_P._Aquino 11-23-2006, 11:43 PM Tok, were those images with noise reduction ON? Because the images I had posted were with NR on. Thanks for going to the trouble of testing your camera!
Cheers,
Norman
Tok Paler 11-24-2006, 12:41 AM NR was off when i took it. I'll post some with the NR on =)
Norman_P._Aquino 12-08-2006, 12:16 AM Sent it to Servimax. I hope they'll fix it soon...
Norman_P._Aquino 12-20-2006, 06:54 PM I was told the CCD would be replaced...
JonDexterTan 12-20-2006, 07:02 PM hi norman, just read your thread. had the same experience with you on both the E-1 and the E-500. wasn't able to have it fixed though. hope all's fine when you get your E-1 back.
