I've been looking for a good flash diffuser that's not DIY or index card. Am not happy with the stofen omnibounce. Has anybody tried the lightsphere II? Any comments or alternatives would be appreciated.

"Boss is that cup noodles on your flash?" "Do you need hot water with that?" I got fed up since I'm not paid to do this so I didn't bother getting one when I upgraded to the 580EX. Let 'em look ugly. I stick with the built-in bounce card of the 580EX from now on unless somebody's gonna PAY me to make them look absolutely stunning with a flash gun. It does work though. Great for churches with high ceilings you can't bounce off from. john_villavicencio 06-14-2006, 09:37 PM hehehe i've gotten used to it already. i'm more after the result so i don't mind it. haven't heard any jokes lately though. hehehe! Analynne_Sison 06-14-2006, 09:45 PM i once used onion paper and other translucent materials as a flash diffuser and they work pretty well. the good thing is they're free hehe jaime_elizaga 06-14-2006, 10:34 PM I've used tons of DIY diffusers before.. some have it's pros and cons, but the most effective for me is still the bounce flash with a bounce card. If the scene is outdoors, direct flash with a flash bracket is the one for me. :) Robert Cheng 06-15-2006, 10:16 AM thanks for the inputs. Is the lightsphere available locally? The 550/580 model was not available at cathay of singapore. buying from the states takes a while. jay_alonzo 06-15-2006, 03:07 PM A friend told me that it's available at Watson's in Quiapo. Don't have any confirmation on this thou. You may want to check the lead. rosalie_gomez 06-16-2006, 06:47 AM yup i have one for the 550 and 580 ex. i'm using the LSID for both (basically the LSPJ2 + Dome). you'd get some awkward stares once in a while and the joke or two but once they see the effect, jaws drop and now they ask where to get it. :P You live in HK? Is this sold there? I've been curious to try it, just to see if it works. It seems so huge though... :) Shipping if I order directly is just too expensive. Robert Cheng 06-16-2006, 09:01 PM thanks jay. since you pointed me to quiapo, i decided to call up mayer photo. they said they will have it at the end of the month. Richard Ledesma 06-17-2006, 07:46 AM I use LSP before but sold it few weeks ago and bought Joe demb diffuser. You might want to check this out http://dembflashdiffusers.com/instructions/ rosalie_gomez 06-20-2006, 08:53 PM @Richard Curious why you sold your LSP? How do you find the Demb Flash Diffuser Pro so far? :) Richard Ledesma 06-20-2006, 10:21 PM They're almost identical in use but joe demb diffuser is more powerful and handy. Just my opinion. rosalie_gomez 06-21-2006, 08:26 AM @Richard Thanks for the feedback! :) john_villavicencio 06-21-2006, 11:06 AM You live in HK? Is this sold there? I have the older version, one that uses hard frosted plastic. Gets the job done, if I my say so. I have mine taped with duct tape though, since my old LS II won't fit my 580EX. Have to force fit it and tape it. Looks unwieldy, but sure beats a stofen and my old Lumiquest bouncer/diffuser. manny.talavera 10-16-2006, 08:10 PM Just want to share http://www.abetterbouncecard.com/... A cheap alternative to Stofen, LS, and Demb Diffuser (aka. Flip-It). :) Aris Guerrero 10-16-2006, 08:40 PM current project. as in. http://super.nova.org/DPR/DIY01/ john_villavicencio 10-17-2006, 01:14 AM there's a HK Online store that sells the Lightsphere, might have cheaper delivery charges. I got another Lightsphere (Since I sold my Canon gear and shifted) and ordered a Joe D. Diffuser as well. Still waiting for it. Joseph Leh 10-17-2006, 03:00 AM I also have the older version, the one in hard plastic. I'm also curious with the performance of the Joe Demb Flip-It vs. the Lightsphere. jon-jone_javier 10-17-2006, 03:40 AM thanks jay. since you pointed me to quiapo, i decided to call up mayer photo. they said they will have it at the end of the month. Aside from Mayer, there are other store in Quiapo that sell the lightsphere. You can try Avenue, Watson, or Henry's. manny.talavera 10-17-2006, 06:22 PM there's a HK Online store that sells the Lightsphere, might have cheaper delivery charges. When I ordered Flip-It it took more than 6 weeks to arrive because the first shipment has a problem and the second shipment arrive in 2 weeks time. I like the result of my LSII than Flip-It though the result of using Flip-It is also good. Things I like about Flip-It are it is easy to carry, ease of use and it doesn't falloff (the problem I have with LSII) your Flash and fits most Flash models. jose_deluna 10-17-2006, 06:42 PM Of all the DIY diffusers I've used... the most effective is... puting medyas ng anak ko... john_villavicencio 10-17-2006, 08:53 PM When I ordered Flip-It it took more than 6 weeks to arrive because the first shipment has a problem and the second shipment arrive in 2 weeks time. I used the flash off cam by the way http://static.flickr.com/121/292279850_8fddd670a9.jpg http://static.flickr.com/105/289337433_3d31254494.jpg |
