View Full Version : Help! How do you remove lines?!
GeraldBARIA 05-07-2009, 03:04 PM Ive been experiencing this whenever I export photos from lightroom 2.
Look at this pic..

Do you guys notice those lines trailing the arms and face..those black and white lines? Their very distracting..I experience them most often when I convert from my full resolution to smaller res..(like 640 X, 800 X, and or 1024X)..not much if I export on full size.
I thought they're just chromatic abberations..so i played around with the slides for correction to no avail.

Lines on the ear..
Can anyone out there please help me how to remove these? Does my shooting play a role in this? Thanks!!!
Erwin B. Mallari 05-07-2009, 03:52 PM check your import command & uncheck those effect that exist into import menu
David Tong 05-07-2009, 03:57 PM Does it show while you're still in the Develop Module? If not, then you either sharpened it quite a bit already in LR then you still left the export sharpening option on. Looks like a classic case of sharpening artifacts and halos.

Sir there's no effects menu that comes up once I import..just the box for "show preview" and "do not import duplicates".

Sir..the'yre already there while on develop mode but only slightly. They get really worse after the export and resize. The 1st picture..(driving) I did not do any sharpening yet. I think I just added some vignette in there. I also uncheck that "sharpen for" option in the export window.
I once tested this..if maybe its on the sharpening..I once place all the detail slides to zero..but the exported file still had them. I tried exporting it without resizing..and the lines disappeared.
I notice these lines come up in high contrast edges of my images. By the way..Im using the Mogrify plug in for my exports..does that have to do anything with it? Before i used the File to Disk export, but still I experienced this..(the secong photo).
David Tong 05-07-2009, 05:08 PM Not sure, I find sigs a bit useless and presumptuous for my snapshots, but that's just me.
Hard to tell unless you post the orig as well. What's your in-cam sharpening settings?

randytamayo 05-07-2009, 08:59 PM In the last thread I read that starts with How To... (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=24393) you seemed to have an argument for all explanations given. I am not too keen that you will listen here too.
But for what it's worth, you are over sharpening.

Haayy..just one of the things in my life I regret I have done. Ive apologized to every single person I offended ok..both in post and in PM. Im not too proud of some of the things ive posted here and I really regretted a lot of them..yeah, Im an impulsove person. Let's get over that and move on. People can change right? Please dont judge me.. Cant we just all be nice and friendly here.
I posted this question because I really need help..Im running out of ideas on how to tackle this. If you see me explaining the questions of those who would like to help and unselfishly share their knowledge, that's just me clarifying the situation so that they would give the most accurate solution to my inquiry..NOT..arguing.
Thanks for the feedback. As I said, I did not do any sharpening on the first pic..on the second, I may have did. Although I know that oversharpenning can produce halos that could possibly be these lines, I really have tried pulling all the detail slides down..but they still appear. But if indeed this is oversharpening, (maybe Im just overlooking some stuff that I'm really missing) what do you think should I do?
GeraldBARIA 05-07-2009, 09:28 PM Here's the original picture, taken as fine jpeg straight from the camera. Please download and tweak as you please to not result into these unsightly lines, and tell me how you did it please. Thanks.

David Tong 05-07-2009, 09:39 PM As predicted, the image was already over-sharpened by your camera at capture. Even with an outright resize to half of the original file's dimensions the halos are very visible.
Perfect example of PP not being able to help a faulty photograph, by the way.

Ohhhhh..so that's it. how may i prevent this next time? Should i just stick the optimize image to normal?:(
David Tong 05-07-2009, 10:01 PM Turn down the sharpness parameter in cam... It should be in your user's manual.
