dave_trinidad 11-18-2006, 11:44 PM don't know if it was duscussed here already. but here goes..
anyone care to share how scripts are applied/used in CS2? Is that a way of a shortcut?
like I downloaded a script on sharpening. how do i use it?
please enlighten and thanks in advanced.:)
ReD Ognita 11-19-2006, 08:48 AM Im not sure if you are talking bout Actions or Scripts. Kasi me nakita ako dito sa boards na sharpening action for download.
To be safe, Ill do both =)
A single script can perform actions that involve multiple applications. For example, you could target both Photoshop CS2 and another Adobe Creative Suite 2 Application in the same script. So yes, in a way, it's a short cut.
After downloading a script you must copy it into your Scripts folder. On a PC, the path would be:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop (CS or CS2)\Presets\Scripts\
On a MAC the path would be:
Applications> Photoshop (CS or CS2)> Presets> Scripts.
After copying a script to this folder you'll need to Quit and then Restart Photoshop before the script appears in the File> Scripts menu.
To Run A Photoshop Script

To run a script choose File> Scripts and select the script from the list, which will include any script file that was saved with a .js or .jsx extension and saved in the Presets/Scripts folder. If you want to run a script that was saved in a different location, simply choose File> Scripts> Browse and navigate to the specific script you want to use.
For further reference on Photoshop Scripts, here's their Scripting Guide (http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/photoshop/sdk/index_scripting.html)
If you're talking about Photoshop Actions.
Place the ATN file inside the your Photoshop Action Folder.
Yourdrive:\Photoshop folder\Presets\Photoshop Actions
Now, load it.
Open your Photoshop.
Make sure you have you actions window open.
Click on the triangle button on the menu.A menu will pop up, and select Load Actions. Go to the Goodies/Actions directory, and select the name of the action(s) you want to install. After clicking Load, the actions will appear in the menu window.

Now, it's loaded.
Using it.
Create a new file.
Make sure your action is selected.

Then, just hit the PLAY button, and then just do what the instructions during the action say. Once in a while, the action will ask you to do something, such as duplicate a channel, etc., and after you do it, you must click the PLAY button again.
Done =)HTH

Earl Gonzalez 11-19-2006, 11:40 AM Nice contribution Red! :) And welcome to DPP!
Using scripts in PS also has its own learning curve and needs alot of careful experimentation... I advise that one should carefully read Adobe's scripting guide before attempting to do so. However, it is truly worth the time, effort and tinkering... :)
ReD Ognita 11-19-2006, 12:08 PM Thanks for the warm welcome Mr. Top Poster =)
I have been on the boards for a few weeks now, a total n00bie in photography and I can say that I am learning a lot. Pabasa basa lang at pasubok subok.

@Earl bro.,
don't know if i am asking the right question so let me be more specific:
how do you make this a "short cut"? every time I have to do the sharpening, i go through the steps one by one:
- USM : effect 18, radius 40, threshold 0
- USM : effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
- Edit/Fade USM, 100%, darken mode,
- USM : effect 150 radius 0.3, threshold 0
- Edit/fade USM, 50%, lighten blend mode.
btw, this is the sharpening steps used by Manny L.
i'm kinda still finding my way in advanced CS so give me something in layman's term. Thanks a zillion.
Jo Avila 12-03-2006, 12:45 AM Open any image. Go to the Actions Pallete and click on the icon at the bottom of the pallete that creates a new action.
Do the commands you want (BTW, I think you are referring to Amount instead of Effect in USM). Stop recording the action once you are done with your commands.
You can assign a hotkey to facilitate playing the actions.
It would also be wise to group your actions into actions sets in the Actions Pallete.

ReD Ognita 12-03-2006, 02:25 PM You are pertaining to the Manny Librodo Sharpening technique (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=1085&highlight=librodo) thread. Authored by Nick Tuason.
Following all the posts, you'll see that Randy Tamayo made it as an action (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showpost.php?p=17805&postcount=20). I guess you have already downloaded the file.
I have downloaded the file so I can make screenshots with it as well.
To install the file:
*Open you Photoshop installation folder.
*Inside the folder, look for the "Presets" folder.
*Inside the "Presets" folder, look for the "Photoshop Actions" folder.
*Place the file (copy or drag) inside the "Photoshop Actions" folder.
The default is C: don't mind my root. I usually move things around.

Now, it's installed.
Loading the Action:
*Boot up your Photoshop.
*Go to you Actions Palette. If you cannot see your action palette, maybe it's not open. Go to "windows" then tick "Actions"
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/2064/windowxc1.jpg
*Actions pallette open, click the triangle like icon on the side.
*Choose, "Load Actions"
http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/1771/loadbf3.jpg
A window will open with all other Actions in it.
*Choose the action that you want to load, Librodo_Luko, in this case.
Now, it's loaded.
Using it.
*On the Action palette again, clik the triangle like icon.
*Choose the Action you Librodo_luko action. If it's already highlighted, it's ok.
With the action selected, just press play (of course there should me an image loaded first)

Though, I am not Earl, I hope this helped =)
and oh, if you want to record your own action in the future, Jo Avila's post is the way of doing it =)
