What do you mean by "not safe" my family trusts Mon/Mayer's and so far all our purchases are fine, no lemons. Well except for one panasonic video camera which we were able to exchange with.

Ok to be fair, my dad got me a Canon Powershot A620 from Mon but the box wasn't sealed and well the box looks as if it has seen better days. But for a 10k difference, the camera works perfectly fine and the box had everything inside.

We trust him, he trusts us...must be the Chinese connection :Grin:

You can't avoid the possibility of lemons. If ever you buy in JT or Mon, just make sure you can replace it if ever it's defective.

BTW I got my SIGMA in JT and not in Mayer's. JT has 12 months to pay with 0% interest. Perfect for the forever cash strapped kid on allowance

So far ... I've been okay with Mayer ... the newbie that I am. Got my two lenses, a 580 flash and my camera from them. And so far ... okay pa rin sila! Maybe they should be advised of this "nasty" rumor going around ...

A friend of mine got his Nikon D80, 50mm 1.4, SB 800 from Mang Ramon at a very good price.

Mayer assures his customers that he will replace defective units outright and i've seen him do so...i've got a friend who had his 18-55 replaced outright...Mayer just inspected it, and after a few minutes, he got hi new replacement...:)

Just be sure the unit has no distinguishable marks such as deep scratches... he will replace it.

Just be sure to have the local warranty card in every purchase you make.

Oh yeah, regarding the warranty card...I've read in one of the threads here that someone bought a Canon camera, I think, and is having a hard time getting service from Canon since he didn't get a warranty card. The thread ended months ago and no updates were posted.

have had 2 dealings with mayer's/mang ramon already. bought a sigma, canon L lens, speedlights and other accesories from him. so far the products that i got is all in excellent condition. based on my experience, i can vouch for him and his store. :)

darwin, a lemon is referred to a product that has manufacturing defects on them. getting a non english cd does not constitute a product being a lemon. however if your unit/lens has back/front focus problem now that might be considered a lemon. :)

didn't get one either when i bought a canon 75-300 lens from him, there's supposed to be a sticker to prove of it's warranty, i think there's a previous thread about this, a canon rep even posted there to clarify things, will try to find it and post it here for you guys

To be sure, call Canon and inquire about the serial number of the product to see if it is covered by the warranty.

This is what I've heard... if anything happens to your cam within the warranty period (sometimes 3mos or 1 yr), you just have to bring it back to the store and they will take care of sending it to HK or Singapore to be repaired. :)

So far sa dealings ko with Mayer, problem free. Sa friend ko, he found a possible issue with his new camera. He talked to Ramon, sabi sa kanya, "basta pag nasira, balik mo. papalitan ko agad."

I bought my 1st DSLR cam (D60) from mang ramon, never had problems with, not lemon and definitely brand new (checked with OPANDA)

after a year, I decided to upgrade, still opted to get from mang ramon even thought his price is higher than 200 pesos from henrys :D

why? because he's true to his word, as long as defective, he'll replace it right away. (based on other peoples story) good thing I never had problems with all my purchase

I bought my d90, nissin flash, tamron 17-50mm from Mang Ramon. All are ok. In fact, when I had the nissin firmware updated with JT, they did it for free.

I'll vouch for Mang Ramon and Mayer 100%. I got my D90 body and my Tokina 11-16mm from him. On my way to Cebu for a vacation my D90 developed dead pixels. After I got back to Manila (12 days after I bought my camera) I went back to Mang Ramon and showed the defect. He replaced it with a new unit OUTRIGHT no questions asked.

I also vouch for Mang Ramon (Mayers), I also got my D90 Kit last December 2009, haven't had any issues since. I also purchased another 18-105mm Kit Lens for a friend, and he too has not experienced anything w/ his unit.

I just hope Mang Ramon would give a lower price to his 'Suki'/Patrons..

Other than that, he's at the TOP of my list for Cameras and other Photography Accessories.. :D

Mang Ramon of Mayer? i bought my new unit to Mayers, and everything goes well, when my Memory card was corrupt, even without warranty Mr Ramon echange it to a new one. They sell Grey unit without original warranty of the store thats why the price is cheap than the price in Malls. But all of their Units selling are Original. Their lenses are from hongkong, i saw them oneday the boxes with a seal of Cathay Pacific was delivered to them, containing a lot of canon lenses. Thumbs Up Mayers

Mang Ramon (Mayer's) is really staight to the point businessman, it's not healthy in some ways... After asking prices and some detail re: 550D and 7D, he just gave me the "tsupi" hand signal... that's not really professional for a potential buyer. So i bought my 7D from Henry's instead...

actually mang ramon really has that attitude that "if you're not going to buy go somewhere else" maybe for the reason that he has the lowest prices in hidalgo regarding slrs and lenses so canvassing first there may really not be a good idea. I usually ask other shops first then going to mayer's photo last. another thing is you should be sure of what you are going to buy before going there. his attitude may really piss you off but his prices are lowest in hidalgo. he sometimes gives freebies as well. ^^

i'm not sure if mang ramon has the lowest price in hidalgo. i also ask avenue first then henry and meyer.. they all have same prices

got my d 90 and 18 to 200 vrII lens from Mang Ramon, was very fortunate to catch him on a not so busy day. he even gave some tips in shooting and was kind enough to recommend what would be a good prime lens for the d90 and also explained the new sb700.

Hi guys! Just bought my d90 from Mang Ramon this morning. It's 45k but since I was the very first customer, he gave it to me for 44,500. :)

so prices really went up.

The saleslady told me it was 47k last week. I checked with Henry's online last March 28 and it was 44.5k, checked again this morning before going to Hidalgo and it was 45k.

Good thing Mang Ramon gave me that 500 pesos discount for being the first one to buy.

i bought my Canon speedlight EX II from Mayer, after 3 months, flash randomly fails.. most specially if the head of the flash is facing upward.

mayer endorses Nikon over Canon... FYI

By default i think he does endorse the nikon entry level slrs over canon. But when it comes to advanced / enthusiasts cams, he's fair enough as he knows people asking for 60ds for example are already into photography or have taken a good amount of time already on deciding on an advanced body.

First, speak in English. DPP is an English speaking community and its a requirement :)

To answer your question, well yes. A lot of photographers already bought their cameras, lenses, and accessories there. And yes, some bring their cash, while some in CC or in check. Just bring one or two friends with you when you go there and be bringing lots of cash. Also, don't act like an innocent when you go there. Act like you don't have lots of money with you. Just keep yourself in low profile.

d90 kit is at 43k @ Mayer last Feb 23. with bag and 4gb memory card.

No issue with You or Mang Ramon but my dad runs a shop in Raon just near hidalgo and its Normal for customers to come in and ask and dont even buy a product but we do not give an attitude. Not all birds fly so not all who pass by the mall shops...

Good business does not always come the first time around and good buyers ask and look around first.. I go to the websites before going to a place to buy and for Mayer who does not have a website, its just right for someone to go in and ask.. no harm with that plus, we are in the Philippines (most welcoming place and people in asia) and not hong kong..

Any time of the day except when somebody - or you - tick him off. He gives the best deals but if you tick him off, he'll throw you out of the store. BTW, Meyer's is closed on Sundays and holidays.

Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. Depends on the item you will be purchasing and the deal you set with him.

No. Same quote. However, sometimes they lower the price - if you get on the good side of Mang Ramon.

He will accommodate test firing of cameras BUT be sure you get one of the cameras because if not (you go out to canvass from another store then come back to him), chances are he would not give you the time of day anymore. Meyers usually gives the best prices. Asking him for his opinion is like playing Russian Roulette IMO - if he's in a good mood, he'll answer your questions. If not, he'll probably tell you off.

Safest is subjective. You'll be in Quiapo so how safe you will be is up to you. If you display yourself as a moneyed person that doesn't know his way around, chances are some thug will scout you.

Usually "Gray units" are a lot cheaper than from legitimate distributors and only has "Store Warranty"...they are originals but does not carry the local distributors warranty.

For Nikon, it should have CDSC warranty, Canon should have the 3 year local warranty

When buying in R Hidalgo, canvass all the stores first before deciding...i bought all my cameras and gears at R Hidalgo but got my Canon 50D at a Canon store in V Mall just for the warranty(they offered the cheapest prize with lots of freebies). Its a bit expensive by 3+K than in R Hidalgo, but for the warranty its worth it.

going cash or straight payment can give you around 3k discount for CDSC units.


anyway, one way to ask if they got Service and Parts warranty. Grey seller only offers Service warranty (parts would have to be shouldered by the owner)

if you really want to be sure, just buy at Camerahaus or other official distributor of CDSC.

No issue with You or Mang Ramon but my dad runs a shop in Raon just near hidalgo and its Normal for customers to come in and ask and dont even buy a product but we do not give an attitude. Not all birds fly so not all who pass by the mall shops...

Good business does not always come the first time around and good buyers ask and look around first.. I go to the websites before going to a place to buy and for Mayer who does not have a website, its just right for someone to go in and ask.. no harm with that plus, we are in the Philippines (most welcoming place and people in asia) and not hong kong..

Agree with u erwin 100%. if customers like us are not given a modicum of courtesy by these stores better not BUY. IT IS NOT OK TO BE TREATED LIKE DiRT by these people show your displeasure never suffer in silence! Teach them a lesson by not patronizing their store and informing others of their rude behavior. Selling is a service and not a license to mistreat public. There's nothing illegal with trying to canvass the best prices you can avail of!
