in about a year or 2 years time. panasonic will redesign the lx3.
what improvements do you want on the next gen LX3?

1. ill start. i would prefer a bigger body/grip so i can hold it better much like the canon g10.

2. bigger chunkier buttons...

3. maybe even more dedicated buttons... but as it is it is very easy to navigate...

4. dedicated viewfinder

how about you?

Personally I would prefer a bit longer lens like maybe around 90 mm, a VF or an external electronic VF like the ones used by Ricoh. I also want a better AWB. I would prefer the same size or just slightly bigger because the small size is one of the appeal of the LX3. and lastly maybe a better designed lens cap :)

I'll chime in....

1. a wide, clear VF (similar to those film RF); no EVF pls :)
2. longer reach in terms of focal length (but retain the f/2.8 glass)
3. better power management. would like to shoot 1000+ images per charge (having a VF would definitely saves up a lot of power

size wise, i wouldn't change it (at least in my book, thats one of its pluses:D)

thats about it :)

I agree with the VF, it's amusing that as LCD size grows, the VF gradually became non-existent.

VF, 90-105 tele, better battery (Panasonic battery sucks regardless of product IMO).

Agree with both Idols ( Levi and David) :) For me even a EVF would be better than none specially if they can put in a EVF similar to the one found in the G1 or GH1 :)

I'd like it if they come up with a film version of the LX3!!! (but that's not possible with the film cartridge size hehe).

David, I believe it's doable - The Olympus XA is almost the same size as the LX3 :)

how about sturdier buttons with a crispier feel to them?
a friend told me that long time lx3 users ( those who've owned there lx3 for more than a year) encounter flimsy/loose buttons. of course this is acceptable to normal wear and tear? has anyone experienced this? im especilally apprehensive about the play and camera switch that you toggle up and down... parang in time magiging maluwang...

Miguel, I use my LX3 almost everyday since I got it last September. No problems whatsoever :)

Most Lumixes are like that, the buttons don't feel very tactile, but it's fine.

I wonder though, how much will the lens size increase with a longer f/2.8 zoom?

Longer lens but yes, it will be quite a challenge to keep the prices low if they have a longer lens with F/2.8 zoom.

i hope they retain the f2.0 lens and extend the zoom...

Can you just imagine them putting a 24-200mm f/2.0-f/2.8 lens on it plus a micro 4/3 sensor on a package silghtly bigger than the G10? WOW!

Question is, will we ever see an LX4? Maybe the LX3 is the last of it's kind, and replaced with a rangefinder-like u4/3s version.

Walter, We might but I hope they won't kill off the P&S but if they come out with a petite micro 4/3 camera in the form of a LX4 then I am all for it :)

I would like the LX4 to have zoomable video... The current LX3 fixes the zoom when you're in video mode.

If they can somehow make the pop-up flash tilt upwards to 90 degrees... ;)

• Large sensor, just like the one in Sigma’s DP2
• Better ISO performance even at 800 and above
• Faster AWB (which Panasonic robbed with the latest firmware)
• Raw in DNG format
• Manual Focus Ring
• Fixed focal length (non-zoom), brighter, faster lens. if I need to zoom, I’ll get closer to the subject or I’ll buy a interchangeable-lens camera. Question: Do a fixed focal length lens and a larger sensor could fix barrel distortion?
• Dedicated analog controls for ISO, Exposure etc. AND a mode-dial Lock/Unlock button
• Sturdier nicely-designed battery/card cover that won’t accidentally open (hopefully with coin slot similar to a Leica M)
• Weather-sealed so I need not have to worry when shooting in the rain
• Bulbous, textured, comfortable rubber handgrip like Ricoh’s GR/GRD
• Sturdy leather wrist strap similar to Gordy’s instead of a neck strap.
