JonDexterTan 11-13-2006, 11:34 AM thanks tracy! sige nins, will wait for that. :D so guys, what album sizes do you prefer to work on? or looks best with spreads? 10x10? anyone? tracy_arciaga 11-13-2006, 11:38 AM Based from my experience in layouting. It's best to work with a sqaure album like 10by10 or 12by12. 11x14 is also nice.. 8x10 is not so nice.. and for me a bigger album is better.. but that'd really depend on your client. ben molina 11-13-2006, 11:41 AM Based from my experience in layouting. JonDexterTan 11-13-2006, 03:46 PM i would love to try using 10x10 or square albums. i thought so too! ricky_ladia 11-13-2006, 04:08 PM i'm a bit off here... i seldom shoot weddings.... but what is the difference between traditional and digital albums? hhehehe!:) Earl Gonzalez 11-13-2006, 07:47 PM i'm a bit off here... i seldom shoot weddings.... but what is the difference between traditional and digital albums? hhehehe!:) The digital story book albums are more cheesy IMO! :D hehehehehehe jun_lee 11-13-2006, 07:54 PM It depends on the layout. Some people try to squeeze in ALL the shots in one album. A digital stroybook should just be a short story, some poeple turn it into a novel. dindin_lagdameo 11-13-2006, 07:55 PM It depends on the layout. Some people try to squeeze in ALL the shots in one album. A digital stroybook should just be a short story, some poeple turn it into a novel. I saw one that was over 80 pages... too heavy to even lift a page. patrick_mabanta 11-13-2006, 08:04 PM I'm curious. Where do you buy the album? or do you know any supplier? Angelo Jacinto 11-13-2006, 09:35 PM I saw one that was over 80 pages... too heavy to even lift a page. Hehehe, I now use 80 pages for my 8x10" albums. It's not really as bad as I first thought, since it really helps accommodate larger group shots and blow ups of candids which gives a certain impact to spreads. I've started offering it since then, and wala pa naman nagrereklamo so far :D. Yes mabigat siya, but they said once they started browsing the album, they didn't really mind. :) Marco_Ingco 11-14-2006, 04:09 AM We use 10x10 albums for our clients. dinolara 11-15-2006, 05:29 AM I have always been using square albums - 10X10 and 12X12. Usually, it's 40-pages but I do offer 60-pages. dinolara 11-15-2006, 05:55 AM i'm a bit off here... i seldom shoot weddings.... but what is the difference between traditional and digital albums? hhehehe!:) Traditional albums are albums with matted pages. Usually, a page may contain 1 8X10 or 2 5X7s or 4 3X5s. Most imported albums have several mats to choose from. Some clients still prefer this because it's very classy. Digital Storybook are layouted pages. Each page are processed through Photoshop. This style is more popular nowadays. I've been a proponent of Digital Storybook since 2001. My main reasons are the following: 1. I don't want to be dictated by album makers on how to put pictures in each page. Though there are several mats to choose from, still, I don't have total freedom. During layout, I have total control on how I want to crop the shot. 2. I can put text or any graphic design elements within each page. Some weddings have themes like beach, Asian, vintage, etc. Putting those elements in the album, makes it more consistent with their theme. 3. Sometimes I want my picture printed edge to edge - no mats. You have to have strong foundation on graphic design to do a digital layout. There rulles to follow such as grid, white space, typography and not just throwing pics in one page. Classic example of this is, when you compose for a shots sometimes you use rule of thirds. You have one subject placed on one of the 1/3 position. Your eyes was led to that subject and explore the remaining 2/3rds. In layout, you should apply the same rule, put one focal point in your spread and the rest are suplementary shots. I've outlined those in the recent DPP magazine - wedding issue. I guess its ok since clients are always asking if they can add more photos all the time hehe  tracy_arciaga 11-15-2006, 01:14 PM You have to have strong foundation on graphic design to do a digital layout. The story behind that is I started out doing 40-page digital layouts for the first weddings I covered, I would then show them the layouts on my laptop for them to preview and comment, with the photos I shortlisted on CD. They looked at both and asked if I could add the following photos... and before I knew it, kailangan nang mag 80 pages! The album weighed a ton, but the couples who ordered it didn't seem to mind. As weddings came and went, it actually became easier for me, since hindi na ako masyado nahihirapan or nanghihinayang mamili. I've been using it as my default package since then :). JerryVergel 11-20-2006, 03:52 PM Here in Winnipeg (Canada), digital album layout has just gained popularity in the last 2 years. Here's couple of sample layout from my recent weddings... http://www.jvphotography.com/albumdesign/20060617kristaandlawrence2/ (http://www.jvphotography.com/albumdesign/20060617kristaandlawrence2/) http://www.jvphotography.com/albumdesign/20060805jenniferpatrick/ (http://www.jvphotography.com/albumdesign/20060805jenniferpatrick/) dinolara 11-20-2006, 08:29 PM Thanks for sharing. Are you using YSI? JerryVergel 11-21-2006, 02:40 AM Thanks for sharing. Are you using YSI? I'm pretty sure I responded to this, but I dont know what happened. Just in case there's a time lag and this results in duplicate, mods, please delete this. If not, here's my answer to your question, sir Dino. Yes I do use YouSelectIt for my album layout. Are you familiar with this program as well? Pilar Tuason 11-21-2006, 02:54 AM I personally love traditional albums. High quality and classic. We also do offer digital albums in square format and vertical. We like to keep our digital albums with a very minimalist apporach. We dont like to cram too many photos on the spread and still keep it simple. dinolara 11-21-2006, 09:05 AM Yes I do use YouSelectIt for my album layout. Are you familiar with this program as well? Yup. It's a great software. Although I'm not using it much on weddings. :) ricky_ladia 11-21-2006, 09:22 AM Thanks Dino for that wonderful clarification about traditional and digital albums.:) and thanks Earl for taht yummy answer, hehehehehe!!! marvindungao 11-22-2006, 01:27 PM Hi po, Since the software for layouting has been mentioned. Can you share the softwares you are using for layouting? Thanks! Like I mention before I use YouSelectIt. Great software to use. My clients are always blown away with the layouts. http://www.youselectit.com/ There are other 2 that I know of... http://www.garyfong.com/newsplash.html http://www.photojunction.com/ I haven't tried these other 2 but I just know other photographers use them. joel_herrera 11-24-2006, 07:16 PM @jerryvergel Where can we purchased that software locally thanks JerryVergel 11-24-2006, 10:40 PM @jerryvergel Where can we purchased that software locally thanks Joel, I purchased the YSI online. All these softwares (YSI, Garyfong and Photojunction) can be purchased a downloadable version online. You may wish to download a trial version. If you wish to have the CD in a box, you'll have to pay more plus shipping. I dont know if any of these programs are being offer in Philippines. If you wish to purchase a downloadable version online, I recommend to burn a copy of the zipped files into a CD-R so you can re-install in case you need to re-format your computer or purchased a new computer. Nino Estrada 11-29-2006, 12:57 AM clients now seem very interested in a digital albums and photobooks, the last one we did was for a baptism and every now and then we get inquiries from kiddie parties. nice info on the software. jeny_alicpala 11-29-2006, 11:07 AM @jerryvergel Where can we purchased that software locally thanks Aperture Trading (http://www.aperturetrading.com/)is selling DG Foto Art. Just my observance. Thanks Joann... will invisibly include that on my quotations :D deejames 09-02-2010, 06:29 AM In my work as a layout artist, it is best to do the layout in a wide spreads or panoramic.. or a square 10x10 or 20x20.. but in mostly when wedding albums it is 10x15, 11x14, 14x11 and 15x11.5. In prenup albums or guestbooks.. it is usually 8x8, 10x10, and 8x10.. Sample of wedding layout here (http://jameshistoria.com/2008/10/wesley-and-danah-wedding-album/) Sample of guestbooks here (http://jameshistoria.com/layouts/guestbooks/) It's all done in photoshop.. no other software like YSI etc. alexbriones 09-02-2010, 02:48 PM Is there a photo paper with the size of 10x10 or 12x12?
