Hello, I'm new to this forum.

I have an Olympus E-500 and I'm looking for a spare battery for it. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the replacement batteries (generic brand) that can be found in the shops around Hidalgo? I looked around the area recently and couldn't find any original Olympus batteries.

I'm sure the generic BLM-1 will not have the same no. of shot performance as the original. But I'm more concerned about LCD brightness/screen flicker, flash issues, battery errors and leaks if any. Would you recommend it as a spare battery? Thanks in advance.

I have a generic BLM-1 which I use with my C7070wz. So far it has performed as expected... almost at par with the original olympus BLM-1. No screen flicker, no strange smells or spontaneous combustion. And it costs so much more less than the original.

I dont think I got mine in Hidalgo though. If i remember right, a friend bought it for me in Singapore.

Hope this helps.

I too use a generic Li-Ion battery for my S40, not only does it have 400mah more storage, it's 30% cheaper than the OEM Canon battery as well. So far it's still working well.

Got mine off eBay a couple of years back.

Boo to proprietary batts! hehe
