View Full Version : In the advent of Trolls...

What are we suppose to do and where are the forum or thread moderators? :Thinking:

I raise this question to our generous hosts... Vigilant members can only do so much as to silence the onslaughts in the most civil way or language we can type or muster... We need intervention ASAP when the situation arises to prevent further member clashes and annoyances... We need a physical alternative to the over-used IGNORE button...

Earl, it's really not more of a member clashes as in this group of members clashing against another group of members. It's more of a one member against the world/forum :) .

....But without those troll posts, where else would funny replies such as "pitik sa itlog" (flick the ball) go? LOL.

Anyways, it's all Jerry Tieng's fault for attracting knuckleheads (me included). ;)

Everyone is entitled to his own opinion. Banning someone because that someone irritates you is, I think, unfair.

What if we do a vote?

I think the troll has done enough? I mean, some folks here in DPP have had some arguments but they haven't been banned nor has anyone commented on them being banned? Compared to the b.s. the troll has spit out, the folks who have had arguments here were healthier and more productive?

Just my opinion. Peace out. :)

im with melvin on this, imo.

the ignore button is alone in its own special way. :)

Okay, let say the moderators Banned them or Kick them, But it's easy to return and re sign up with different user and used different email address because all of those are free..Beside we dont know exactly if those names are there "REAL" names...just my two cents..

Yeah, I guess you have a point there Eric. Might as well ignore them.

To a certain extent, I agree with you. But in the past, when I felt that the arguments are getting out-of-control, I just pm Nick to let him know. Then he deals with them. :)

Gentlemen (and Ladies), did you read my comments on an other thread?

Banning this annoying obnoxious individual will do nothing! He/she will just register for another account with a different name (different IP address) and start the same childish behavior all over again. Only this time he/she will be much worse because now he/she is pissed off.

Obviously this person has issues, maybe a Transvestite or have extremely small sexual organ's and feel's the need to get even with the world that left him/her trapped in the body of the opposite sex!

If this one person is getting you so wound up then you need to 'STOP', take a deep breath and then move on to the next post/thread

'The fool thinks he has won a battle when he bullies with harsh speech,
but knowing how to be forbearing alone makes one victorious.'

"Samyutta Nikaya I, 163"

"Do not speak- unless it improves on silence."

Let me Analyze...

Troll = Affected by Issue
Melvin = Affected by Issue

I therefore conclude:

Melvin = Troll

OMG! I hope I am wrong.

So you propose a DPP "lynch mob"? :)

In my opinion, DPP is moderated quite actively and just the right amount. I would say that 99% percent of our membership is educated and respect other opinions. Friction only rises on ocassion. This is why we chose to only use real first and last names on this forum. I'm certain that some have registered using other names, but this stops the person from ever participating in any DPP events, ie. photo contests, promos, etc. If you don't see active moderation, it doesn't mean we aren't looking. Its safe to say that Admin spends a good 6 hours combined watching the forum. We also receive emails and PM from members who point us to posts where members breach forum rules.

As everyone who has participated in other forums know, you can never stop a troll. But so far it hasn't been so bad.

i think you're the one who trolled (at parcs "A Taste of Glamour" thread)...why?...you posted something which is uncalled for and therefore you got a reaction in the same nature. ;)

That's what the OP did in this thread (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=1876), until you decided to post the following --

Here's one book on Glamour Photography. Hope this helps.

Classic Glamour: Techniques of the Top Glamour Photographers (Paperback)

Hope this helps.

Again, help WHO on WHAT?

Nick,

I salute your answer. You are right. You are not like those I know. They advocate diplomacy only if they are not attacked themselves. But once they are touched, they resort to immediate banning. :D

Guys, I thinkwe really have to work hard, I think it's due. Being here is a priviledge... lets shoulder the extra effort to help police the forum and build our patience enough to ignore trolls.

Peace.

Nick, do the honor and lock this thread.

If stating your opinion is trolling then I am indeed a TROLL. And I'm proud to be one. If you can't respect other's opinions, then it's ok. Not everybody can agree with you. Sorry I don't dance.

Sometimes it nice to be a troll. You should try it. Better than just absorbing everything.

For those who think I was trolling Parc's thread, probably I was. Sorry for those who got offended by it. I never knew Parc's fans were that fanatic.

Mods, sorry for this comment. But this will be my last post here. Just wanted to troll a little bit.
