View Full Version : Energizer and Nikon L6- Who Wants One for Free?
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 05:34 PM Attention All DPP Forum members.
Energizer and Nikon have joined forces in the promotion of the Nikon L6 point and shoot and the Energizer Lithium batteries. Energizer says that 600 shots are guaranteed with this camera but believe that it can go over 1000 easily. Nikon now also wants to promote their latest camera. The L6 makes for a great pocket camera to SLR owners.
We are asking if there is anyone out there who would like to write a review that will be published in DPP December or January issue for the Nikon L6 and Energizer Lithium.
We are going to give away FOUR L6 cameras loaded with Energizer Lithiums. We want our reviewers to take the camera and push it to its limits. We also want to see how many photos can be taken on just one set of Energizer Lithiums also.
So if anyone is up for this, tell us why you want to do it and how you plan to do it. If we like your idea, the camera is yours to keep. All you gotta do is help with the review for DPP. Again, we are giving away FOUR L6 cameras loaded with Lithiums.
Who wants one?
David Tong 11-06-2006, 05:56 PM Me me me... hehe...
I love writing reviews (see epinions >> theveed)... what are we supposed to test? The camera or the batteries?
I don't think I have the intensive test equipment as the pros do, though.. But I sure would like to join :)
Nono Felipe 11-06-2006, 06:07 PM Nick, sent you PM. Thanks.
manny_illana 11-06-2006, 06:44 PM Sent PM. Thanks.
Tammy_David 11-06-2006, 06:50 PM Me! I'll send you a PM soon
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 07:25 PM Basically its simple. You tell us why you want the camera and what you plan to do with it, what kind of photos you plan to take. I hope to hear from street photographers, sports photographers, wedding, home users, etc. We give you the camera and you max it out. Put the camera and those Energizer batteries to the test. We then ask you to write an honest review for us either for December or January issue. We are choosing FOUR testers here. If we choose you as a tester, the camera is yours to keep, a P13,000 value.
I've received the PMs. Thanks for this. But let the forum members know why you want it and what you plan to do with it on this thread. Hope to hear more from members here.
We'll make a final decision by Friday.
Jeff Vergara 11-06-2006, 07:33 PM are people from abroad eligible for this? i want to put the camera to test especially on extreme weather conditions. :)
Nono Felipe 11-06-2006, 07:35 PM Hi Nick,
If you will allow, I'd like to give the L6 + Energizer batteries a spin for one of the Filoil Homegrown Cup basketball games. The tourney just started last weekend and I may be shooting three ballgames this Sunday. If all goes well, I can give the L6 a sports photography review on pure, unadulterated college hoops. If I get the chance to shoot a preseason football game with it, I will as well.
Thanks and God bless.
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 07:35 PM only problem Jeff is that we may have a problem getting the camera to you.
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 07:36 PM Nono,
Great! Sports is definitely on our agenda! We'll let you know Friday.
Hi Nick,
I'm Nono Felipe, a sports photographer. My sports folio is at http://www.nonofelipe.com.

orlando_arcelao_jr 11-06-2006, 07:41 PM Hi Nick,
I'm Orlando Arcelao Jr., a budding outdoor and nature photographer and would love to test out the L6's capability on my travel's especially this coming December wherein I plan to do a series of travel vacation within the Philippine islands.
Thanks and best regards! :)
lenard_po 11-06-2006, 07:51 PM Hi Nick,
I'd like to try out the Nikon L6 and the Energizer batteries on an upcoming groundbreaking event of a project am involved with (a 22 storey hospital complex) I'll use the cam to cover the groundbreaking ceremonies, cocktails and at the same time try to squeeze in pictures of the construction activities as it progresses. Since the L6 is compact, it would be easier for me to go around the construction site rather than carrying my DSLR which is big and bulky.
Thanks. :)
Aris Guerrero 11-06-2006, 07:58 PM when must the review be finished or submitted to you guys? would love to have another nikon. :) (and free)
Nono Felipe 11-06-2006, 08:02 PM Nono,
Great! Sports is definitely on our agenda! We'll let you know Friday.
Thank you, Nick. Will wait till then. Just a few questions though:
- When is the deadline for the review?
- How long should the review be?
- Is the thrust of the review on the camera's features or on battery life? Or both?
- We supply our own media right? (just clarifying so that I can borrow some SD cards)
- Can we do minor post-processing on the images that are submitted together with the review? (exposure compensation? cropping? color correction?)
Thanks again!
Jeff Vergara 11-06-2006, 08:11 PM shipping will be dealt later.
anyway, i would like to try a compact p&s camera since i've been using dslr as if i've been using it for the first time. i would like to try it's handling, the simplicity/complexity of menus, situations on how it would pass on certain areas where dslrs are not allowed, conditions of the weather especially winter months have extremes during night and day. also, let us see on how the camera would last without turning it off and logging the shots (multiburst, sports, landscape, macro, etc.) during those times.
thanks!
dhon_caga 11-06-2006, 08:13 PM If am going to be the chosen one, ill use the cam and the battery in a street photography in a whole day shoot. Shoot any subject from people to things and or maybe landscape if it is possible. and maybe i can use the cam and battery to our December Issue Cityscapes. Then test the capabilities and limits of both Nikon L6 and Energizer Lithium’s and maybe compare the results......
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 08:40 PM Keep it coming guys!
The review will be either for our December issue or January issue. Most probably January though because our cut off for November material is the 20th. You should test for two things: camera performance and battery performance. At the end of the day, we will write the review with inputs from our four testers. You will be given a minium two page spread in the review section with some photos that were taken to show the camera capabilities.
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 08:40 PM shipping will be dealt later.

good comments. Yes, shipping can be dealt with later!
Nick Tuason 11-06-2006, 08:45 PM I've been barraged with a load of PMs wanting to be considered for the Nikon L6 and Energizer review. If I may request, please post this request on this thread so that we can make a decision by this Friday. Thanks again!

Can i just test the batteries?
Funny Ann. Yes, I can get you the batteries. :)
scottkho 11-06-2006, 08:56 PM nick,
i plan to do some street-slash-personal photography with it. It'll probably be something like an 'a day in the life' or 'a week in the life'. also, i'll definitely use to to shoot family/friends' gatherings. so there'll be a lot of indoor and night tests as well.
if the duration of the review period allows, i'll use it to shoot some photojournalism & sports work.
to test...
camera: i'll try out each shooting mode according to what it's designed to do (night-mode for night shots, etc). i'll compare each 'prescribed mode' vis-a-vis the default auto-mode. then, i'll see from there how the images look under different conditions.
battery: fully charge them then see how many shots it can go. i'll do it in 2 parts -- a) without flash, b) with flash. if it's ok, i'll give the batteries a go using a speedlight and see how that works (drain and all) vs the batteries i use.
all shots will be compared to a similar spec'd p&s
Aris Guerrero 11-06-2006, 09:01 PM i'd like to test drive one!
my plan is to compare the energizers' batt life with two other sets of unnamed (or named, your call) nimh AA batts.
the nikon L6's review (alongside the batts) is through a technical one, merits of face detection, etc, focusing more on its features. and further providing some sample images.
also plan to take it here in Clark Pampanga - where im currently based.

David Tong 11-06-2006, 09:12 PM Oh, I thought Nick wanted to know how we plan to review it, not just use it.
Several plans actually, one would be our upcoming Xmas party (Dec 7), which I was nominated to cover the in-house event photography. I'd love to test this camera in extremely low-light, fast-moving, everyday consumer-level usage.
In addition, I've been looking for a good point and shoot to replace my old Canon, which is a great benchmark for the layman camera user who wants good controls while being able to rely on its algorithm when a newbie chooses to use it.
I love writing intensive, user-oriented reviews as you can see in my Epinion.com profile (search for reviews made by theveed), which has gathered quite a few good feedbacks on my written review.
I love to take children portraits/action shots sa I believe I have a knack on capturing kids' natural emotions while allowing them to have fun during the photoshoot.
Lastly, I've used the Nikon L1 quite a bit and I can definitely use it as a benchmark or comparison for the L6.
===
As sent to Sir Nick:
First the standard stuff:
Start-up times (probably base it on dpreview format)
Modes, weight etc...
Price, weight, expandability, flexibility (if you're a beginner or advanced user)
Shooting:
- Real-world shooting - low-light, kids, sports, etc.
- I'll probably include a hand-shake section since this is a P&S
- Consumer cam user issues - flash range, focus speed, ease of use (menu and ergo, etc.)
- Comparison of photos based on different camera settings (depends on camera's actual options)
- Zoom features
- User manual quality
- Software quality
Battery
- Shooting (no flash, low light/no flash, bright light)
- View/Review of LCD frequency
- Deleting files/formatting card
- Including real-world user patterns of viewing the shot constantly, deleting files on the fly, etc.
- Flash/shutter refresh times
I'll also ask complete newbies to do actual photo tests for certain parameters as well.
I'll most probably come up with a relative rating system (1-10 etc) since I don't have a test lab that can accurately compute for response times and other statistical values.
But the bulk of my review will definitely be based on actual consumer-level usage, not professional and lab results since 90% of point and shoot consumers don't understand what DPreview terminologies and ratings mean.
Oh, here are some of my review samples

As a technical writer by profession, I'm keen on producing layman-undertandable write-ups on technical issues, which will be very beneficial to the target market of the L6.
Most importantly, I need a new, reliable cam to use hehe.
LeonardoColl 11-06-2006, 09:13 PM I'd like to have a go.
The camera has much potential.
I plan to use the Nikon L6 as a second camera during an ultimate disc tournament. I will use a DSLR with a long (80-400mm) lens for most of the long action shots, and will use the L6 to shoot the wide to normal photographs - Portraits, group shots, maybe even try a bit of action photos with it - it may or may not work, but at least we can guage the camera's responsiveness.
I can also take the camera and take photos during a concert - to test the low light capabilities of the L6.
Here are a gallery of recent ultimate disc photos that I've taken:

Sonny Thakur 11-06-2006, 09:38 PM Hey Nick,
I finally came up with something. See, I started out a photoblog with 2 of my best friends and they're starting out photography and they're ideal for this sort of thing. the blog is http://through3eyes.blogspot.com and we plan to take turns using the camera and since I have the most experience in the group, I can write the review. We can share one camera, this way we get to take more shots and exhaust the camera. :) Just a thought. :)
Carlo R. Lopez 11-06-2006, 09:40 PM nick, if you give me the chance i would certainly give the camera/battery combo a run for its money and put it to its limits, will basically test the camera on my daily commutes to tagaytay and laguna. will be taking landscapes, abstracts, still life etc as well as documenting purposes of my company's manufacturing process.
since i am looking for a limited point and shoot camera, i will also test the interface and useability of the camera and its many user features and compare it to the other industry leaders. ive gone through about 5-6 point and shoots over the last year and usually test and research on the cams of my siblings and parents.
Marton_Benitez 11-06-2006, 09:45 PM David, don't forget to mention all the hot cars that will pass by your shop :) you can use the l6 there!
I'd want to play with it but I don't think I have a good enough place to shoot nor have enough equipment experience to review it properly :(
GelbertAplal 11-06-2006, 09:54 PM Sir Nick I would love to try one...
being a street photographer by heart, I would like to test the cam and the batteries endurance. I would like to start from a certain starting point in Manila, then walk, ride jeep, ride a bus, ride all the means of transportation I could. This would test the cam on different places and this would test the batteries true capabilities.
My itenerary would be
Home (5am) - Then a little walk outside - then a pedicab ride to buendia, then a jeep to roxas blvd. (for the sunrise) then a stroll on roxas. Morning on Luneta then some scenes on Intramuros. The I'll ride the LRT. Then would try going down to Divisoria. Try to take some photos of the items for sale there (also some shopping of some cheap stuff, hehe).
After Divisoria, I'll ride an FX to Megamall. Now I can shoot some ubran street scene. Starbucks life, yuppie scenes. Then a ride to the Market Market to take photos of the food scene there (cause I'm dead hungry by that time) then try to take some photos of the fruits and flowers there. After that go home. Then would try to go back to Makati at night, and try some night scene photos, probably a bar or some party.
I'll let the photos be my document throught the day.. and I really hope the batteries could last the way it should :D
opps, I forgot.. ( I hope I could convince them) I'll try to be with different model friend along some part of my trip :)
orlando_arcelao_jr 11-06-2006, 10:17 PM opps, I forgot.. ( I hope I could convince them) I'll try to be with different model friend along some part of my trip :)
Now this one's the punchline! :D:Grin:
Tammy_David 11-07-2006, 12:05 AM I'll be heading to KL and Cambodia in two weeks for a festival. I plan to do a follow up story on the Tonle Sap fishing village or the vendors outside the Angkor Wat.
As a present canon user, I want to know if I can replace my beloved A620 with the new Nikon L6. I also plan to max out the energizer batteries with Street Photography probably people in transit in Malaysia.
JonDexterTan 11-07-2006, 07:19 AM hey nick!
my day starts as early as 5:15am (so says the alarm clock) and ends usually by midnight. if you're sending me one of those Nikon L6 + Energizers, what i'll do is leave my tamrac adventure 9 at home with all my stuff (30D, flash and lenses) and just lug around the energized L6 all day (for days). i shoot everything, and with my day, i can shoot sunrise to sunset. indoors and outdoors. people. scapes and beaches here in davao. street and stuff. food. but mostly the usual normal stuff like family gatherings (a lot of birthdays this november) and things ordinary consumers shoot. rest assured though that all the features of the L6 will be tested as that is my forte. anyhoo, i also love doing reviews to help out fellow consumers.
and nick, if ever i give it a low vote -- if ever -- i won't be selling it, i promise! still don't have a P&S :D
you're friendly southern neighbor -- dex
ps. i'll even pay for the shipping!
arnel_villavicencio 11-07-2006, 07:51 AM i'll be covering 4 events this coming december, 2 weddings, a birthday and a christmas party, not to mention the usual family reunions and maybe some live concerts during the holidays. i believe these gigs will test all the camera/batteries capabilities. please let me try one.
floyd.piedad 11-07-2006, 07:58 AM Hi Nick,
I am interested in writing a review article for said camera.
I have writing experience professionally, having written a book published by Prentice Hall International: http://www.amazon.com/High-Availabil...997087-0127327 (http://www.amazon.com/High-Availability-Design-Techniques-Processes/dp/0130962880/sr=11-1/qid=1162807845/ref=sr_11_1/102-3997087-0127327)
I also am an avid photographer, having accumulated more than 30gb of photos of my family and events. I also have been through several cameras, from film to digital, such as Canon EOS 5e, Nikon d70, Kodak DCS 1mp, Canon Ixus v1, and Fuji F10.
My angle for the review is for the non-professional, family-oriented shooter who will use the camera in situations where a pro shooter is not available. I also intend to get my wife and my kid to use it and give their comments on usability, performance, etc.
On the battery side, I intend to also do a capacity test using a pro battery charger LaCrosse with digital display for capacity, voltage, etc. My biggest frustration is batteries, having "invested" in sanyo, maha powerex, etc. - but they always fail you when you need them, especially when used in the SB800...hopefully the Energizer is the answer to my prayers.
Thanks!
Floyd
Hanz_Florentin 11-07-2006, 10:07 AM Hi Nick,
If choosen to test the Nikon L6 here's my plan.
I would like to cover the Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal this November and do some street photography. For low light situation, I would visit one of the galleries in Angono and capture the different arts on display.
Also this November, We plan to go to La Union, my Father's home town to visit my grandmother (I could even ask her to use the Nikon L6) and proceed to Vigan and capture some landscapes, portraits of the local.
I could also use the Nikon L6 in our office for our weekly Kris-kringle where I could take photos of my officemates while they are receiving their presents. We are also planning to have a team-building, perhaps either in Speed Zone, Fort Bonifacio or in Enchanted Kingdom. If we push thru on Speed Zone I could take action photographs of the race among my officemates. If we push thru the Enchanted Kingdom, I coud try low light photography, capture the rides (I could even ride the Space Shuttle with the Nikon L6 in hand for extreme situations), capture the fireworks display before the day ends.
On December, I would also be attending 2 Christmas Parties in the office, there would be a concert that would be offered and I could try the Nikon L6 with the Energizer for low light action photography.
Above anything else, I just wanted to give the Nikon L6 to my mom as a Christmas present (she's my critic and art director). She was even excited to hear this promotion from DPP and would like to try the Nikon L6 for herself.
More Power to DPP!
Nick Tuason 11-07-2006, 11:06 AM This is going to be tough to choose. I appreciate the offers. If we had enough cameras I'd give them all away but unfortunately we only have four. So keep it coming everyone. We'll make a final decision this Friday.
Rolando Avecilla 11-07-2006, 11:33 AM Nick sent you a PM. :D :D :D :D
allan_florendo 11-07-2006, 12:06 PM children playing a soccer game or even Playstation.....lolo and lola having the time of their lives with their beloved apo's.....mom and dad exchanging kissing under the mistle toe (if there's one).....first steps of a baby.....
its all about freezing and capturing those very special family moments.
my love for my family and my passion for photography is a perfect combination in testing the L6.
Bobet_Racelis 11-07-2006, 12:19 PM If you'd ever consider an in-depth review from an amateur's standpoint regarding the Nikon L6 and Energizer Lithiums, then count me in. All features will be looked into, all options will be scrutinized.
Great day! Ü
angela dominique 11-07-2006, 01:44 PM hi! let me introduce myself... im an amateur photographer here in samar im using nikon fm10 for my photography and using olympus camedia instamatic for taking school i.ds since it is handy easy to use and gives me a quality photo also...and if the students did not look i can easily delete the picture...but i have problem with that im always changing batteries since im taking not only a hundred students but a thousand students here in catarman national high school i wanna see if this nikon L6 is really have a long battery life.how many batteries will i use after taking a hundreds students...and i think its nice to have that nikon L6 now since it is second semester, expect a hundreds students enrollees in collages need an i.d picture for school requirements. we can have a comparison with that...what do u think? by the way im using also my camedia instamatic for classpictures and monthly school program for preschoolers so i can preview it first before printing so we can have another review for that...unlike to my nikon fm10 no delete allowed since it s defilm but im using that for travel, nature spots and by occasions, Im planning to buy digital slr soon but as of now im still saving...
Do u think i am qualified for this freebies? and if im lucky to have it.....ill give u the feedback about this nikon L6.
angela dominique 11-07-2006, 01:52 PM i lost the word energizer batteries for long lifespan... pls pardon...
Earl Gonzalez 11-07-2006, 02:52 PM Why not! :) Let's do this... I love street photography and for those everyday mood shots... Most of the time it's quite cumbersome to a carry a huge PRO body cam... Most of the time a P&S is all it takes to capture cool moments... Something you can lug around in your pocket the whole day...
Nick, if there's still some left... I'd like to take a crack at it. :)
Carlo Leonardia 11-07-2006, 03:28 PM I am a hobbyist who just moved up to a Nikon DSLR this year. Before that i used an olympus prosumer and before that a canon point and shoot.
I am also a dad of a 1.5 year old boy and he is my favorite subject. Following him around with the L6 should prove to be a worthy exercise in testing its ability to perform in lowlight and "action", as well as test it's flash and battery performance.
If I get to test the L6 and the energizers, I also plan to take it on a street scenario to see how the combo does outdoors. Since it is a compact P&S, I plan to have it beside me all day, probably keeping it on standby just to see how the battery stands up to that kind of use. I will also be using it for family gatherings (at least 1x/week for Nov and 3x/week for Dec.), parties, and out of town trips.
I also write on a weekly basis for a local newspaper here in Bacolod. It its ok with you guys, then I also plan to do a mini review of the combo for my column.... this will save me thinking up of stuff to write about for at least a week. :D
David Tong 11-07-2006, 04:29 PM David, don't forget to mention all the hot cars that will pass by your shop :) you can use the l6 there!
I'd want to play with it but I don't think I have a good enough place to shoot nor have enough equipment experience to review it properly :(
Hehe, o nga no, thanks for the reminder, Marlon :D
Nick Tuason 11-07-2006, 06:27 PM Gets better and better everytime. We may have to toss a coin cause all the posts are excellent!
vien_cortez 11-07-2006, 06:50 PM ME! ME! ME!
I’m offering an alternative way to review the camera.
I always believed that one of the best ways to test the limits of a point and shoot camera is to have a 7-year-old kid look through its lenses, grasp its frame, and appreciate its functions.
Not only would a child be able to give an unbiased, no holds barred review of the camera’s ease-of-use (with the parent's assistance, of course), but more importantly, the child would be able to show us their perspective of the world around them.
Having said that...
I’m a mom and I have 2 kids. My eldest LOVES to take photos, so this is what I intend to do:
I’m going take my kids to the zoo. I’ll let my eldest hold the camera the whole time and pretty much leave her to take pictures of things that interest her. Of course, that is after I teach her the basics of the camera.
If by that time she hasn’t used up the batteries, or the used up all the available space in the memory card, I’ll go and take her to an amusement center the following day (most probably Tom’s World at Robinson’s Galleria), where she can take pictures at her own pleasure while having fun at the same time.
Having done that, I myself (and most probably my husband too!) would also take on the task of pushing the limits of the camera. I would use it to take pictures of everyday things that would catch my attention – at home, out on the street, in the office, and pretty much anywhere I could successfully smuggle a P&S camera in.
By doing this, the functions and limits of the camera can be tested and compared in a controlled (me and my husband using it) and uncontrolled (my kid using it) environment.
Although my child and I may not be as good as the other reviewers out there who really have the technical skills and knowledge, our edge would be an honest and practical review of whether the Nikon L6 would be a “worth-every-cent,” user-friendly camera meant for the middle-class* Pinoy family.
*I think that at this point I can safely assume that "middle-class" is the target given the price range. ;)
P.S. While still deciding on which DSLR brand to buy, I must admit that I've been using P&S cameras for most of my life -- Canon S3 IS, Olympus C770, Canon Pwershot G5.
P.P.S. My husband is a good editor, so you can expect a nice, gramatically correct, and easy-to-read review too! :) :D Hard sell na ito! Hahaha!
Nick Tuason 11-07-2006, 08:12 PM Vien,
Not a hard sell but an excellent pitch! Again tough decision to make here.
Glenn Michael Tan 11-07-2006, 09:25 PM I'd like to do a review of the nikon L6 and compare it with my nikon d50 with 18-55mm, i want to see how a 6mp Point & Shoot camera will compare to a 6mp digital SLR.
i'll lend my wife the d50 while I'll use the L6 and we'll shoot the same subjects, angles, ISO settings, etc. I'll also compare the Energizer Lithiums(from L6) with a fully-charged Nikon EN-EL3a(from D50) by shooting with both cameras continously with no recharging on different weather conditions; cold or hot temperatures and check if this will affect the life span of both batteries.
We'll have a road trip somewhere in the north or south and we'll be shooting landscape, nature spots, people, sunrise/sunsets, etc. to maximize the features of both cameras. We'll also test both cameras using low light, ambient light and using the built-in flash for both cameras.
And last, we'll choose the best pictures that we have from our road trip and test printing our images at different sizes, 3R, 4R, 5R, 8R, etc.
vien_cortez 11-07-2006, 11:05 PM Vien,
Not a hard sell but an excellent pitch! Again tough decision to make here.
Thanks for the compliment, Nick! :)
I'm sure that the "chosen four" would be worthy of getting their reviews published in DPP... and getting the cameras for free of course!
Just in case you'd like to have an idea of how my hubby writes, here's a link to an article he wrote for the lifestyle section of the Makati Busines Club's Philippine Business Magazine: Magnifique (http://www.philippinebusiness.com.ph/archives/magazine/vol10-2003/10-7/lifestyle2.htm)
ericgonzales 11-08-2006, 11:28 AM Sir Nick,
If I will be given a chance to Test & Review the Nikon L6 and the Energizer Lithium batteries, I will make sure that these items will be pushed to its limits.
I am a Hobbyist who is currently taking classes in FPPF (Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation). With the class that I am taking, I can use the camera for our upcoming projects such as, Indoor, Outdoor, Studio Lighting, Portrait, Product, Table Top Photography, Lighting for different surfaces: Glass, metal, opaque and others.
And not only that, since my wife is a dentist, I can maximize the use of the camera to take Orthodontic Photographs (Intra-Oral & Extra Oral Photographs) to patients for their Before & After Photos. Mostly, these type of photos deals with macro and portrait photography.
I will eagerly wait for your approval with the hope of becoming one of the four fortunate people who will Test & Review these two products.
Sir, I am ready to press the Shutter Release Button!
manny_illana 11-08-2006, 05:45 PM I would bring the camera and the batteries to Anvaya Cove in my capacity as architect-planner and erstwhile in-house photographer.
To cover its more than 300 has. expanse, 3 kilometer coastline and the current construction work we need to monitor and record. A day’s work in Anvaya includes trekking the site to uncover its many panoramic vistas and sights unseen… both for planning purposes and for marketing illustrations. My previous point and shoots could only muster half a day’s shoot on a full charge of its proprietary batteries. I would love to test the combo and hopefully be able to capture a whole day’s musings in Anvaya… from sunrise to sunset to dawn. To be albe to take photos of the expanse of nature… from landscape photos of the picturesque views where mountains meet the seas, the lush green environment of mango groves, bamboo clusters and tall grass swaying amidst the sea and mountain breeze, of the variety of birds ,pawikans, and other fauna that thrive in its bosom, of endemic flowers and insects………nature at its best.
And how the place is being transformed… from the meandering roads and foot trails that meander alongside the creeks and brooks. To the unfolding of the beach club and its surrounding structures that would soon be a place where families bond and memories instilled.
Possibly being able to time it with an on-site marketing event to capture the moments that transpire during an Open House.
Perhaps the most challenging part is, could the camera (and the batteries) be a good match or be a good buddy for my Nikon D200??? :RedEye:
Good luck to all and may the best story win!!!
nino_carandang 11-09-2006, 05:38 PM Guys, you still have 6 hours to go before we decide.
Mark_Tiangco 11-09-2006, 06:27 PM This is how I propose to test and review the Nikon L6 and Energizer Combo:
Nikon is positioning this camera as having "Surprisingly simple operation and world-leading battery performance." "Memories made easy" is their catch phrase for this camera. The feature set of the L6 looks to support this claim with the ususal gamut of scene modes, 2.5" LCD, and a minimal number of buttons and switches. The addition of ISO 800, in camera red-eye removal and D-lighting to combat exposure problems likewise aim to give the average Joe (or Jane) good pictures in any situation. Combine such a camera with a 1000 shot battery life and you have a camera that is perfect for average snapshooter. Good move since that is 95% of the digital camera market.
So thats the L6 in theory. To put it to the test I would pass the L6 on to the intended market. I would give the camera to my extended family to use until the Energizers give out. I have a large family, there are twenty six (32 if you include pets) of us who meet at my grandparents house every week. The youngest is 7 and the oldest is 78. There is never a lack of photo ops with such a large group. Lets see if the L6s design and features can deliver top notch photos in the hands of the average 'bunso', 'kuya', 'tito', 'tita', 'lolo' and so on.
I'm sure DPP will take care of the standard technical tests. So I would focus on the user experience and final output (straight from the cam printed at the nearby columbia digital).
:)
GelbertAplal 11-09-2006, 07:49 PM Good luck to everyone... hope we can have and try one each :)
dave_trinidad 11-09-2006, 09:49 PM November and December are busy busy months for our church. I'd like to use the L6/Energizer batteries in tandem with my Nikon D200:
Upcoming activities:
1. I'm accompanying international doctorate students (studying Urban Transformations) in visiting poor communities in Manila. The smaller L6 will be tested in shooting candids using available light, street photography and portraiture.
2. Our church is relocating to a new location this month. This is expected to be a marathon coverage. PLus the numerous Christmas programs (presentations, streetchildren party, etc. coming).
3. Out of town schedule to Subic Zoo and some beaches. Will test the L6's and battery's capacity on landscapes, low-light long-exposures and capturing nature (animals and dolphin shows).
4. Use the L6 as a demo camera for my ongoing digital photography workshop for Point and Shooters.
I'm a Sony P&S user for 5 years now and have tested 4 different Cybershots to date. I'd like to try and own a Nikon for the longest time. It should be a perfect partner to my D200.
adrian_elumba 11-11-2006, 11:55 PM Ei Nick,
I'm not fronting myself as a saint here but i'm really into community work photography. I'm a Thomasian by the way and our Office for Community Development hosts these excursion trips to Tarlac with adopted Ayta communities. Main goal: To bring back the Smiles of the Aytas. I've personally attended and enjoyed a few of these excursion trips and with Nikon L6 and the Energizer battery tandem I could surely prove that an Ayta's smile is priceless.
