View Full Version : Samsung 2233sw LCD Monitor
Gio Puno 02-24-2009, 10:52 AM Anyone using this specific monitor as their display? I'm planning on getting one as a external display for my laptop. I'd like to know if this is also good for photos and post-processing.
here's the link Samsung 2233sw (http://www.samsung.com/ph/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=computerperipherals&type=monitor&subtype=lcdmonitor&model_cd=LS22CMZKFV/XP)
nino_carandang 02-24-2009, 01:02 PM Get the 2253LW instead if you are on a budget. The price difference is around 3K and the spec difference is not much apart from the resolution (2233sw is HD). At the same time, regardless of what monitor manufacturers say, you still need to calibrate it with a Spyder anyway.
Gio Puno 02-24-2009, 04:52 PM ah so this is a cheaper alternative? and yes, monitors still need to be calibrated no matter how glossy and candy-like they look :P
but the full HD of the 2233sw is tempting hahaha (though 1680 x 1050is not bad either).

if you are planning to exclusively edit on the 2233sw, then get it. but if you plan to get your game on with it, you might need to invest on an SLI setup.
diegojose 02-24-2009, 09:22 PM How much are these monitors? :)

2253LW is around 12K, hovers around 11,900. while the 2233 is around 15K.
diegojose 02-25-2009, 02:23 AM Ah okay, thanks!
Paolo Dolina 02-25-2009, 02:44 AM If your work is color-sensitive then avoid TN-based displays. No amount of Spydering will resolve it. But then again if your work doesnt derive revenue for anything better than a TN-based display then go for it. ;)

sorry but i'm not familiar with the terms, tn-based? care to explain? :) i tried reading from wikipedia hehe. i think i get the gist. is it something to do with how colors are displayed on the monitor? (and something regarding viewing angles)
Paolo Dolina 02-25-2009, 02:35 PM Summary of LCD Panel Technology
S-IPS/H-IPS panels are generally considered the best all around panel type, but they are more expensive and very few are made. High end, expensive.
S-PVA/MVA panels offer better color reproduction and viewing angles than TN panels, have slightly worse response times than TN or S-IPS, offer the best contrast ratios, may suffer from color shifting or input lag and have higher availability than S-IPS panels. Mid range, fair price.
TN panels are very cheap and have the fastest response times, but suffer from inferior color reproduction, contrast ratios and viewing angles. Low end, inexpensive.Check out http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/lcd-panel-types.php
I hope this helps you make an informed decision. I have a 24-inch Samsung LCD based on a TN-panel and it's great for general computing but if I was being paid 6 figures I'd buy a DVI-based Apple Cinema Display that is using S-IPS. And as far as I know Cinema Displays are the only ones sold in the Philippines in quantity.
Gio Puno 02-25-2009, 11:45 PM Thanks for the info! :) making me think twice. hehe
Ickhoy De Leon 02-26-2009, 12:10 AM I have the Samsung SyncMaster T220 (20000:1 dynamic contrast) which i got for P13K.. you might want to consider checking it out :)

Basically TN panels have fast refresh rates, hence are best for gamers. While IPS are best for more accurate color reproduction.
Michael G. Viudez 06-03-2009, 09:14 PM how about the syncmaster p2370 or the t240hd. anyone using this monitors? could you please share your experience with this monitors?
thanks:)
Paolo Dolina 06-25-2009, 05:43 AM FYI TN-based display are the only LCD displays available locally. The sole IPS displays are from Apple. :)
