got a very good condition magic drainpipe. i got to test it last friday in toronto Zoo..it was chilly (around 3deg but felt like -2 degrees Celsius because of terrible windchill). i was too excited to try it out even if my hands were numb the whole time http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

shot at 200mm, f4.minor color correction applied. no sharpening. hand-held.exceeds my expectations. no USM? it's not silent, but definitely not noisy. AF speed is slow? slower than my 24-70L, but not slow.

Were these shot with the 70-200 f4 L? No surprises here. Mine's tack sharp.

oops.forgot to tell you i shot these with 80-200 f2.8 L (aka...the "magic draipipe") hihihih

Still a sharp lens. I kinda like its black finish -- less obtrusive than the 70-200s

my philosophy is this: when it's too cold, i can put clothes on and on and on top of each other.

whan it's too hot, i CANNOT just take off all the clothes that i have ..hihihihi...so i think cold is better FOR ME.:D

its 2 degrees here too.....its hard to photograph with gloves on though so im like michael jackson...1 glove on, 1 glove off......

the lion and tiger look scary hehehe......in my case though i was able to capture a squirrel and a fox at Kew gardens.....

Have to agree with you here. That's why I prefer travelling when it's cold. :)

Funny though, since I went to Avilon Zoo last Saturday and was thinking the only thing lacking... is cooler weather then I see your post.

Not necessarily from the zoo, but these are some amateurish sports shots with the magic drainpipe, all wide open, no flash, ISO 1600 on a 20D.

As sir Glenn has said, it might not have USM but it is indeed good enough for indoor sports action(without flash). My cam was even set to AI-Servo in these photos.

As I said in one of my posts, this is indeed a gem of a lens. Mine just broke down (zoom ring jammed at 80mm) and I had to replace it with a 70-200 2.8 non-IS. It took three months before Mike Santos of Picture City fixed it. And yes, Canon Philippines didn't want to repair it since parts are no longer available. This lens is at par, if not better (sharper) wide open compared to the white lens that replaced it. Congrats, Glenn on your new acquisition and of course, for your wonderful zoo photos.

ma'am rosalie, my philo is especially applicable to women =p

sir al neri: look at the colors..amazing! by the way, how much did you spend for the repair? my shots werent really sharp as i took the photos hand-held, was cold, and was in 200mm which is not really the sweetest focal length of this gem. but then, no excuses =p

sir zandy: here are more shots:

3,500, all-in. He got the parts he needed from Hong Kong. He also gave me a personal 6-month warranty (for the same damage). Hindi na rin kasi ganun kaganda yung nakuha ko from ebay e. Enjoy your lens!
