zandy_marantal 11-04-2006, 02:58 PM Congrats Sonny! You'll love that lens. It's plenty sharp even wide open.
Sonny Thakur 11-04-2006, 02:59 PM Thanks Zandy... only noticed now that the 3rd pic I posted is not well focused. :P I used MF on all shots... looks like my eyes have gone bad already :P
zandy_marantal 11-04-2006, 03:02 PM Yeah. Probably the same as mine. :) That's why I don't have any MF lenses.
Maybe the blur was caused by camera shake? What was the shutter speed you used?
nino_carandang 11-04-2006, 03:02 PM thats one sharp lens sonny boy.
Sonny Thakur 11-04-2006, 03:04 PM Zandy,
I dont think it was camera shake.. cause right behind the ganesh crystal (the rock in the holder) the snake looks like its sharp.
Nino,
I know man! I just need to learn how to use it. Grab myself a more stable tripod and wait till you get back with the cable release and I should be set man...
nino_carandang 11-04-2006, 03:07 PM dude
get the same tripod head as im getting. its around a hundred dollars.
Aris Guerrero 11-04-2006, 03:45 PM congrats! post more ha.

Sonny Thakur 11-04-2006, 11:11 PM Grazzie Grazzie!
Louieescobar 11-04-2006, 11:36 PM @sonny,
nice sharp pics, how much is the 60mm f/2.8?
Perry Chua 11-04-2006, 11:42 PM wow I am currently saving up for that lens... might give up my 50mm f1.8 just to be able to get that... nice and congrats!
Sonny Thakur 11-04-2006, 11:44 PM Louie,
got mine for 19.5k :)
Perry,
Its a great lens! Saw your toy shots and im sure this lens will make you churn out even crazier looking stuff ;) Thanks!
levi lacandula 11-04-2006, 11:45 PM coolness. thats one damn sharp glass. congrats on your new toy.
thanks for sharing.
Glenn Michael Tan 11-05-2006, 12:54 AM got this lens also last august, you won't regret getting one, good for macro, close-up and portrait shots, very sharp lens!
Melvin Vivas 11-05-2006, 01:28 AM Budget constraint? Isn't that lens an expensive lens?
Sonny, the first pic is confusing to me because there's no center of interest. By the way, what did you shoot in the first pic?
2nd one, I believe you can crop it better. The scepter is quite out of focus. Probably the DOF. Anyway you're testing your lens so you see here that the DOF is not that forgiving. Be careful with what you're focusing if you're using a wide aperture.
I don't know if it's my monitor but I think that your photos is just a little bit underexposed. or should I calibrate my monitor?
You might want to try out the 85mm f/1.8. Also a great lens.
My 2 cents. :)
Sonny Thakur 11-05-2006, 01:32 AM Hey Melvin,
The lens is cheaper compared to a lot of other lenses :P
First pic, I wanted to shoot a Murano figurine and try to isolate the fish in the center. Maybe the subject isnt too good to start off with.
2nd pic, I could have composed it better :) No cropping done here, all out of cam and unedited.
Underexposed? Maybe the D70s' metering system?
85 f/1.8 is a good lens, but I think ill put if off for a while till I can score a 1.4 :) Thanks for dropping by dude. Greatly appreciated.
Melvin Vivas 11-05-2006, 01:54 AM Hey Melvin,
The lens is cheaper compared to a lot of other lenses :P
I believe it is also great for portraits. Try it out.

I see. Now I see what it is. hehe
2nd pic, I could have composed it better :) No cropping done here, all out of cam and unedited.
Yeah you mentioned. First crop you should do is using the viewfinder if you want photos straight off cam. It will save you time since you already have the crop you want.
Underexposed? Maybe the D70s' metering system?
Maybe. If you're using matrix metering, your cam might have evaulated it to be a bright scene since there are shiny objects. Thus, it underexpses a little bit. Check the histogram so you can see if it is underexposed. Not a clear cut solution but it helps. I noticed thet in my D70 exposure looks ok in the LCD of the cam but when viewed in the computer it's underexposed. Never trust your LCD. I think you can have it calibrated to your liking.
85 f/1.8 is a good lens, but I think ill put if off for a while till I can score a 1.4 :) Thanks for dropping by dude. Greatly appreciated.
Well, if you can afford the 1.4 then go ahead. I believe it has better bokeh and is sharper.
Looking forward to your photos with your new lens.
Melvin Vivas 11-05-2006, 01:56 AM wow I am currently saving up for that lens... might give up my 50mm f1.8 just to be able to get that... nice and congrats!
You sure you want to give up the 50mm? hehehe:Grin:

can't get over the iq of this lens for portraits... haven't even started using this for macro shots! hahaha
louie_lao 01-21-2007, 01:08 AM Chewy, it really is sharp! You sold your 105 VR for this? How come if you don't mind me asking. :)
chewychua 01-21-2007, 10:12 AM two reasons:
1) got the 70-200mm VR and i don't need another VR at 105mm
2) it was just too big and bulky and heavy
but
i really miss the AF-S (that thing focused faster than the 18-200mm vr)
I miss the gold ring (hahaha)
sharpness-wise, same same anyway. both are nikkors naman.
louie_lao 01-21-2007, 10:39 AM Great! You really gotta love the gold ring of that lens! I'm still deciding between this or the 105 for a macro/other purpose lens. Thanks for giving me your insights, bro. :)
ian_santos 01-21-2007, 10:54 AM Congrats Sonny! That's a great lens you have there....have fun with it! :D
Peter Jaena 01-21-2007, 11:05 AM Pansin ko lang, ang hirap mag manual focus sa lens na ito. I think may problema na mata ko, coz If nag ma manual focus ako using my 60mm micro, minsan nag out of focus ako even if sa paningin ko sa viewfinder it's in focus. pero sa AF wla naman problema. hmmm. Anyone experiencing this too?:(
chewychua 01-21-2007, 01:55 PM hi peter. i haven't tried manual focusing yet, but will try it later.
