View Full Version : wide angle lens
Willy Daleon 11-03-2006, 05:07 AM Hello guys
I am currently using a Canon 400d with 2 L lenses : EF 24-70 F/2.8
and a EF 70-200 F/2.8. I am looking for a wide angle lens that would
be a good complement to said lenses.
Need your inputs. Thanks.
bernard billedo 11-03-2006, 01:24 PM 10-22 EF-S
16-35 f/2.8 L
17-40 f/4 L
john_javellana 11-03-2006, 02:14 PM go for the 16-35 2.8 L. pretty expensive but looks like you have deep pockets! hehe :) man, think of how nice that would be, an all-2.8 lineup wohoo!
gg garcia 11-03-2006, 04:10 PM If you are using a cropped body, I'd go for the 10-22. It's really wide plus it complements your 24-70 by not having an overlap in the focal range. If you are going full frame, go get the 16-35.
Oliver Ang 11-06-2006, 09:29 AM the 10-22 works well with a cropped body.. baka bitin ang 16 :)
jay jallorina 11-06-2006, 09:47 AM the only thing going against you is the shortback focus (EF-S) mount which would render the 10-22 useless if and when you go full frame.
but having said that, you'll just have a blast with an ultra wide!
(i wish i could say that from a lengthy experience with the said lens. bernard....christmas gift? hehehe joke lang!)
Aly_Reyes 11-06-2006, 11:50 AM I got to try a 10-22mm lens on my 400D in a wedding event last month and it was terrific. Of course its not really good for group shots because the barrel distortion will really affect the shot. (kawawa naman yung mga tao sa tabi, magiging distorted yung mukha nila). But I was able to capture activities in the altar in one frame with existing light. I'd like to have that lens in my arsenal, among other lenses. Pera na lang ang kulang.
ann_francisco 11-06-2006, 12:06 PM Hi Willy,
I just came from a trip using the lenses that you mentioned plus a 17-40L... I think Ithe 17-40 was a good addition to the 2 F/2.8s.. since i mainly used the 17-40 for landscape shots, was using at least f/8 naman...
but hey, if you have the budget, get the 16-35...:)

randytamayo 02-05-2007, 12:55 AM 10-22 (16-35 on 400D.) If you decide to go FF later, sell it and get the 16-35.
I HAD the 17-40 before on my 400D but let go of it and got the 10-22 instead. And i've been loving wide angle since. Plus, sure, 17-40 is L but you have 24-70... so technically, you have only 17-23mm extra on the 17-40 and 16-23 on the 16-35.
Go try the 10-22 demo unit at photoworld!!!
Chelo Pascua 02-05-2007, 02:29 AM How about a Tokina 12-24mm f4...suites your range. It is highly praised. No need for a f2.8, the DOF is quite large for ultrawides. Low-light - just increase the ISO speed, or use a tripod. No need for the L's unless you have a full frame 5D.
ernmitanyo 02-05-2007, 03:41 AM Why dont you try a third party lens....Tamron SP 17-50mm F2.8. I have this lens and very much happy with this lens on my Canon 10D.
errol_roldan 02-05-2007, 03:40 PM Or you can check out the sigma 12 to 24. It will work on either aps size or full frame cameras.
Its no 'L" but still sharp.
David Tong 02-05-2007, 04:29 PM ernmitanyo: Bro, any sample galleries for that combo? I'm thinking of getting that lens for my 10D as well. Thanks...

Most of my posted pics in the "Desert Foxes Romancing the Arabian Horses" are taken by Tamron 17-50mm F2.8. But, you can search in the pbase galleries about Tamron 17-50mm posted pics. I have done that before I decided to buy this lens.
David Tong 02-05-2007, 05:51 PM Thanks... :)
