my dream landscape shoots in the country?

the cagayan east coast. so rugged. so under-photographed. the entire sierra madre eco system is our philippine yosemite. i dream of palaui everyday....

bukidnon. does anyone have an idea just how gorgeous and earth-sexy that province is? i was supposed to spend an entire week there, doing what i guess im good in....but shooting dates has been a more tempting lure...hehe :)

negros. the entire don benedicto highway is motorcylists/photographer's ultimate road shoot. volcanic peaks, praire-like sugarfields, big open skies. yeah. i went there last summer and i almost hurled my point and shoot for being so not up-to-the-task! sheesh. makes returning a must.

romblon. aha. another province teeming with rough landscapes. carabao island is a backward boracay!

kalinga. rivers and hardcore cordillera. not to mention very ethnic tribes that still maintain their centuries-old lifestyles. sleeping beauty mountains. mist that seems to meander over the rice terraces all day long...

lets get it on you adventurers out there!!!!

landscape/travel photography is a real commitment. time, resources, effort, etc.. and the bummer is, the light and the weather is not something you can pay to be at your bidding. you are at its mercy. how many times have i gone up to mt. pulag only to be disappointed by lackluster weather. it breaks the heart!

Manny,

Schedule it early so you can block-off Noli's schedule. There are many guides you can hire in Batanes to take you around, but if you want to go to the best places to take photos, and to be there at the right time of the day, Noli is the key. He is from there, you know.:)

I just realized that I don't really have any photos of Metro Manila (where I grew up and still maintain a residence). I visit at least twice a year and for some reason, never actually thought of shooting.

Would like to go back to Boracay, Siargao, Dumaguete/Sibulan/Bais, Bohol, Malapascua and Taal.

Sagada is on top of my list for next year...

Please visit the Oarhouse, Mabini St. Malate. There's an ongoing exhibit entitled "My Own Mayon" A group of photojournalists put together their own version of Mayon from the coverage months ago. You might like it!

A friend of mine went there a couple of months ago. Check out his photos. http://jakee.blogspot.com/2006/05/batanes-whoever-said-that-you-feel.html

I asked my travel agent last month and she said the plane trip from Manila to Basco costs close to 10k. I heard you can crash some places of generous local people.

Cool! Jake is awesome. We're going to attend a photo fest in Cambodia in two weeks. The French are going to get blown away by the Filipino contingent once again. I'll tell him about you.

Hi Nick,

Greetings from Tuguegarao, Cagayan. This is Noli Gabilo of Batanes.

Our place is only about two hours from Manila and about an hour from here or Laoag City by plane. When you're there, you may stay at Shanedel's Inn and Cafe (the place with a view - 09204470737). You may opt to stay at the Batanes Resort just outside of the town or at Seaside Lodge. There are also several other places to stay and dine within Basco. In Sabtang, there is the School of Fisheries Guest House or you may want to stay in a homestay facility.

If you ever plan to go there, please let me know. I may be able to help. I can bring you around to places excellent for photography. Every visit there is a different experience. Please check sample images at www.batanesonline.com (http://www.batanesonline.com).

Thanks Nick for having an interest in our Province. Hope to see you there.

Safe travels and keep on shooting.

Cheers,

Noli

Hi Tammy,

Yes, Jake was there with two guests. Too bad I was on my way out when he arrived but I help arrange his stay.

The fare now in Asian Spirit is about 11k. Two thirds of the cost of going there goes to air fare. Remember to book early as seats become full as early as end February. If you or any of your friends plan to go there, I will be conducting two photo safaris in Batan and Sabtang islands in January.

Best regards,

Noli

@ Noli: How do I get to Batanes from Laoag? I was thinking of the cheap air fares offered by Cebu pacific or is it more taxing? Yeah I think Jake went with another photographer, Jill Lejano. I'll definitely PM you around December for the Photo safaris! :D:D:D

@ Aaronvicencio: Sayang! I can't miss them magnum boys get stunned by the Filipinos
