View Full Version : Sigma launches 18-250mm DC OS HSM lens
Ronald Suello 01-16-2009, 07:36 AM Read it here (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0901/09011501sigma18250mmhsm.asp).
It looks like a very good glass for casual walkaround... only 630 grams in weight...
Matt Chua 01-16-2009, 07:44 AM I hope it has ring-type HSM instead of the one used in the 18-125 DC OS HSM... :) And also an improvement on image quality compared to the current 18-200 OS... :)
edisonmaningat 01-16-2009, 09:25 AM I hope its affordable.. :)
rye delara 01-16-2009, 10:56 AM does this mean that the 18-200 OS does have poor quality imaging? i was planning to get one this february pa naman.. :(
edchantioco 01-28-2009, 06:10 AM how much is this lens???
Matt Chua 01-28-2009, 07:59 AM how much is this lens???
i think it's not yet available in the market. i expect this to be more expensive than the current Sigma 18-200 OS, which costs around Php 22,000. :)

The IQ is not really poor. It's just below average.

only a bad photographer produce poor quality imaging :) if you know how to use your lens and work within its limits you'll produce spectacular images with it.
markanthonyfadulla 03-26-2009, 10:47 AM i emailed JT... they said this lenses might be available on april of this year... :D

JT has this lens available now. Too bad about the price. 28.5k. Will wait for the review first before I go burning the wallet again.
WilsonCo 05-04-2009, 12:29 AM Almost the same price as the Nikon 18-200 and the Tamron 18-270. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Vince_Cruz 07-22-2009, 09:20 PM Got one last week at Fotohub. I think its a capable lens for a hobbyist like me.

seems sharp based on the photos. How do you Find the AF sir Vince, is it fast? Can you tagged the photos with the basic exif data (e.g iso, f-stop, focal l )?
michaelcruz 07-23-2009, 01:03 AM @vince
how is the (AF) focusing on low light?
Vince_Cruz 07-23-2009, 08:57 AM AF is fast. Never had a serious AF hunting in low light. Sometimes the length of the lens barrel, gets in the way of the AF assist light. IMO, AF is ok, comparable to the nikon 55-200vr lens i had before. OS in this lens really works. Pretty satisfied with it so far.
main reasons why i chose this over the 18-200vr.
1. tight budget ^_^
2. TIPA award for best entry level lens
3. Sigma has an authorized service center, Fotohub/DPonline
4. plus Extra 50mm

thanks man! a friend of mine is looking for such lens... I myself have an all around lens, tammy 18-270 :) wonder how does it match against the tamron counterpart? hmmm
jingo.versoza 08-19-2009, 08:36 PM i got this lens a month ago.. good walkaround lens especially with the extra 50mm.. AF is ok.. OS works well... not a fast lens though..
average on lowlight conditions.. i use an external flash instead when i take portraits of my family..
