View Full Version : Canon PIXMA IP4680
randy_bautista 01-03-2009, 10:08 PM I just got the IP4680 earlier today. I've read a lot of posts where color profiles are discussed, especially on the 4500. Question.. is it necessary for good prints? I'm using Canon MP-101 matte paper for now since I have a pack leftover... The paper choice when I try printing in PS only has "Matte Photo paper" with other paper types. Should I have a specific paper profile that specifically states "Canon MP-101"?
If ever, where can I get the proper profiles for the paper/printer? Can't find anything on the Canon site...
What paper would you recommended for
1) Best quality prints?
2) Price/quality compromise?
3) Cheap but acceptable?
Thanks DPP!

randy_bautista 01-03-2009, 10:37 PM Let's wait for Misterkodaker then  He's the one who sorta recommended this thing anyway... Hehe... Help me out here Jo! You're my only hope! :D
Bernardo Chang III 01-03-2009, 10:48 PM The profiles are in the CD that came with the printer if I'm not mistaken.

Now it's my fault?!?!?!?!? LOL!!!!! :D
Okey-dokey. Are you referring specifically to the color profiles for softproofing and gamut mapping in PS? Or for paper media type settings?
Canon uses a bit of shorthand in labelling their color profiles.
Canon iP4680 SG is for Canon Everyday Glossy Photo Paper.
Canon iP4680 GL is for Canon Plus Glossy II.
Canon iP4680 PT is for Canon Platinum Paper.
Canon iP4680 PR is for Canon Photo Paper Pro.
Canon iP4680 MP is for Canon Matte Photo Paper (MP-101).
You will have to select Matte Photo Paper as the media type setting if you will be printing on this paper (no it doesn't have to say Canon MP-101 in the media type setting :D).
The color profiles for the inks and paper supported by the printer were automatically installed in your computer when you installed the printer driver software. This is the software that was stored on the CD that came with your printer.
However ... we created a couple of custom color profiles for the iP4680 for printing on GP-501 and PP-201. Copies of the color profile have been already sent to Canon Marketing Philippines.
Send an email to Jay-R Romero of CMP if you to get a copy of the custom color profiles.

Jo Avila 01-03-2009, 11:16 PM I like using Canon GP-501 (Canon Everyday Glossy) for my bulk printing needs when budget is a concern. This paper can be purchased in either A4 or 4R in bulk quantity (100 sheets/pack). Buying bulk greatly cuts down on the cost of the paper :D
Cheers!

Jay-R Romero or someone from Canon should really read this statement by Joseph... And I definitely concur... ever since I met Jo Avila, I went through 3 cameras, 2 printers and I don't know how many lenses! Shouldn't it be Jo Avila's face on the next Canon Ad campaign? Hahahaha :D
