Mangosteen was not so easy to get by 3 decades ago. And, seeing them in Binondo (we call Binondo, Ongpin) was a treat. They're actually my ate's favorite.

We actually just shot from 8am until around 1130am... then, we ate in President! Sarap. I semi-toured Rosalie. I forgot to take photos of the hopia of Polland.
I also didn't get to go to Salazar Supermarket to buy almond jelly, am pao and lots more.
Oh, and I didn't see any authentic Chinese stuff laid out on the ground... being sold by people from the mainland.

miguel_deleon 11-03-2006, 02:17 PM I hope the original posters don't mind if I share some shots here.
Some buddies and I went on a walkabout in Binondo last Nov. 1. Since most of Manila was out of town, the streets were practically empty and we were able to travel and walk around stress free. I shot with film that day though so the images below are from my little ixus-i. I'm hoping my film roll comes out ok, hehe.
for small fires?

Mon Corpuz 11-04-2006, 12:45 AM Hi Din,
Can I join you on your next shoot?
I love Binondo but unfortuantely haven't got the chance to go there for an actual shoot. My brief immersion was during a restaurant-hopping with officemates or shopping at Ilaya and nearby Divi.
Here are my share, photos taken using a SE P900 camera.

Oh, and I didn't see any authentic Chinese stuff laid out on the ground... being sold by people from the mainland.
They're probably renting a P40,000 space in 168. :) I shared a table with a couple of young Mainlanders in Wa-ying (low priced competitor that drove Gloria Maris out of Ongpin) once and I asked them what makes the Philippines so special to have them come all the way to do business here whereas China's economy is on a 10% annual growth rate (well, I didn't quite put it that way).
You know what she said?
She said that starting a business in China takes lots of money and P10,000,000 there is small change and they won't last long with that little capital. So they have no choice but to bring that P10,000,000 here and open shop.
It's ironic how our countrie's fortunes have reversed. My grandparents use to send money back to their relatives every month (parang OFW) so they eat better than 'kamote' but look at them now.. *sigh*
