View Full Version : D80 User feedback
Marty Sordilla 10-30-2006, 09:39 AM I'm thinking of getting a body only D80 by end of this year and I was wondering how you current owners think of the D80 in terms of price / performance ratio...
(yes I've seen the reviews published in some sites but I want first hand experience from our DPP members)
do you have Hot-pixels as other buyers in the US have reported?
levi lacandula 10-30-2006, 09:47 AM nice thread... im also considering of getting a unit too..
appreciate if the actual users could also post some quirks of the cam.
coz most of the reviews do emphasize and highlights on the good points of the unit.
thanks in advance...
dave_deluria 10-30-2006, 10:01 AM I'll just say this;
I've shot the whole gamut of possible images with it already ranging from long exposures to panning shots, from ISO100 to 1600, from sunny weather to cat 4 hurricane conditions. I've owned the unit for around 45 days now and my shutter count is probably around 2500.
I could get a D200 anytime I want, but I haven't.
The only quirk I have with it is that why isn't it more crippled compared to it's higher end brethren to make me want to upgrade. In the same way D200 users say their DSLR is a baby D2X, the D80 is a baby D200.
That said. I'm still an impulsive buyer and once I complete my lenses again to the level where I am content, I will take a look at the D200 again since the D80 experience is so positive.
AndrewTungBorlongan 10-30-2006, 10:10 AM the d80 would be my first slr camera given to me by my father. at first i wanted a 400d, but he insisted i get the d80 (so did my friends marton & brent). :)
i'm new to the realm of using an slr, but i must say that the d80 has made learning photography such a marvelous experience. the buttons/shortcuts are well thought of. the menu is very intuitive, and the camera build, for me, is great.
i also love the pictures i get from this marvelous piece of equipment!

Dave, thanks for your input. very positive indeed. the quirk you have is a positive quirk which I think is quite hilarious! Thanks again!
levi lacandula 10-30-2006, 01:11 PM Thanks for the input Dave. Now thats positive news for me! hehehe
2500 clicks in 45 days... wow! torture testing the unit huh..hehehe
btw, if i may ask.. would you guys know how D80 's shutter mechanism is rated? hopefully better than the D70/s:)
thanks in advance.

williamlim 11-03-2006, 07:10 AM I got my D80 last month and it is great compared to my previous DSLR (no brand so as not to hurt anybody). I got mine at Hidalgo. You can get the body for 48T or with the kit lens at about 65T.
Louieescobar 11-04-2006, 11:47 PM Got mine 1-1/2 month ago.
9 out of 10 on my rate scale.

more...more.. feedback!! :)
how's the handling? shutter rating?
thanks in advance.
Marton_Benitez 11-05-2006, 12:19 AM Its lighter than the d70 right? I felt Borly's (Andrew) and it feels lighter than my d70. But it takes nice shots though, plus the bigger LCD is great.
Levi are you getting one? :)

Thanks Marton.
The lighter weight is ok. Im just concern about the size of the grip/handling. Hope its not too small. Guess need to go to Hidalgo soon just to get the feel of the cam :)
@ Marton - Lets see... still cant afford the great d200 :)
AndrewTungBorlongan 11-05-2006, 01:51 AM the grip and hadling is just about the same as marton's d70. it's just that the body seems narrower :) but the grip can still accomodate most hands well
