View Full Version : Recurrent Training
Jo Avila 10-28-2006, 01:46 AM My father is a retired airline pilot. He used to tell my mom that would have to undergo recurrent training during a certain time of the year. I once asked him what he meant by recurrent training.
He told me that it was essentially a refresher course and a means of updating his knowledge. This was important to him because he was also an instructor.
I've often discovered that just because you think you know something doesn't mean that you actually know it :D
I suppose that's why the mini-library in my studio keeps on growing with each passing month. I don't hesitate to purchase a photography or photography-related book if it has some new tidbits that prove to be useful or help clarify and explain what I think I already know.
Buddy Arancon 10-28-2006, 09:54 AM I am also from the airline industry. An aircraft engineer to be exact. I value the importance of recurrent training though I am not yet required to undergo one. Sometimes, out of habit, we think what we are doing is still the right/appropriate thing. It is only when we screw up that we realize that we have deviated from the accepted standards.
Recurrent training basically addresses the issue of "doing bad due to being too good". :)

Alden Arellano 10-28-2006, 03:29 PM That's why Lolo Jo makes it a point to invite former students to his basic photo classes :) Refresher talaga!

I am usually at the Graphic Novel Section (hindi comic book section ang tawag doon!) for two reasons:
1) Because my interest in sketching was rekindled this year. A lot of the graphic novels being sold contain good art.
2) I actually use the art from the graphic novels as a posing guide for some shoots :D
Jo Avila 10-29-2006, 10:59 PM I'm actually looking forward to the month of December. I'll be taking a short break from holding seminars at my studio. I have some books in my mini-library that I've been wanting to read in-depth. I'm hoping to incorporate new material into my seminar lectures in time for January 2007 :D
That's why Lolo Jo makes it a point to invite former students to his basic photo classes :) Refresher talaga!
JPSarmenta 10-30-2006, 12:01 AM wow ok sir jo ah! can we take refreshers in your updated classes?
well sir jo you deserve the rest from your studio classes naman eh. it has been a tough quarter for you! besides you're teaching in admu that eats lots of your time i bet.
Jo Avila 10-30-2006, 10:05 PM @JP
Of course you can sit in. But I'm still trying to figure out where to insert the new material.
I don't start teaching at AdMU again until the second or third week of November :D
joseph_acapuyan 10-31-2006, 06:57 PM Sir Jo, that's why you always make it a point to invite previous student's to sit in for refresher... :)
Jo Avila 11-02-2006, 10:19 PM Yup. Besides, the first time I took a basic photography class I didn't fully understand everything - and the class was one semester long. I had to sit-in another semester for refresher purposes just to make sure I understood everything. :D
Cheers!

Exactly Jo, one of the reasons I took your Photography class :)
Looking forward to sit-in in the future and learn new
Jo Avila 11-02-2006, 11:13 PM Don, you had better sit in soon. I just found a book today that validates the Coke bottle assignment :D I'll be sharing the book with the batch that starts on November 7.
The book even has a great quotation that goes something like, "The dictionary defines what it is. You define how it should be created."
I'm also working on additions to the module on Composition. But the revisions and additional material won't be added until January 2007.

Sir, hope to receive notice of your class sked for next year as soon as you can provide one. I need to plan in advance my learning activities for '07 since I work in shifts.
Thanks in advance!
