Some ducks form the Silcon Valley. Taken a few weeks back in my favorite birding site (Palo Alto Baylands) with the Sony A100 + Bigma DG. All hand held. Cropped and post processed.
enjoy,
gil

Killer flight shots, Gil! I know how fast these birds fly and it's not easy to nail them in the air... looks like the A100's AF is topnotch. Excellent work.

Yes, I am 100% hand held and 100% jpg. The Sony A100 has the in-body stabilization that helps maintain usable focus. If not, at 500mm, even at high shutter, most shots will be soft if not blurry. Thanks much.

Thanks much Idol,
I had some good training from kind photobirders when I was starting up and hope to pick up some too from you when we could meet up (I just submitted this week my travel authorization request and so far one open Sunday in Bangkok, Dec. 3rd; open half-day in Singapore, Dec. 8; and one open Sunday in the Philippines, Dec. 10. Will stay in the Phil. up to Dec. 12 and will leave on the 13th. I will be booked at the Makati Shangrila. Will let you know after final confirmation.).

Yes, quite fast but big and the flight pattern is predictable enough (except when doing a sudden turn during landing) for some good tracking. As I am finding out, the AF in the A100 is just a bit faster than my KM 5D (where most guesses is where the A100 was designed from). Below are some KM5D fun shots also with the bigma.

I have yet to get a good one on this incoming angle. One of these days, lady luck will pay a visit again :~).

Another awesome series.... the last one (incoming) is tough even on the 1DM2's AF. Looking forward to bird with you, Gil. The Candaba ducks would have arrived by early December.

Thanks to all for your kind words. Nakakatsamba lang and furthermore the shooting condition in my birding area was kind of ideal - lots of open space and the trail/walkway is between the slouhs for easier tracking. Anybody with some photobirding experience should do well in there. I could even use my 75-300mm as a briding lens over there. Have a nice weekend to everyone.
