Masters! I need advice on a busted CF Card. Its a Transcend 1Gb CF. Ive only used it for a month. Now, it cant be detected from a card reader and the camera says, "Err CF". I formatted it from the camera, then it states "Err 99". My camera is EOS 20D, by the way. I regularly format my CFs. I dont know how this happened considering all the good reviews about CF cards. And it has to happen to now?!! I have some important photos in there. Is there anyway I can restore these photos? and how people can prevent this from happening. Is there any sort of software I can use? :Scared::BlackEye:

Patrick, if you have a windows workstation, you can download free recovery software, here (http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/howto-file-recovery.html). Just browse through the page to see what's relevant to your needs. :)

Hi Patrick, From what I know, the "Error 99" is caused by dirty contacts of the EF lens mount. This is the first time I encountered the same Error is screwing up CF cards. Anyhow, I was able to restore photos before using Camera Salvage (http://www.subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=3). This works wonders if your CF card was untouched after you've accidentally reformatted it.

Error 99 is also caused by misalignment of the lens' optical elements.

Instead of formatting your CF card, you can just erase all the images.

Thanks, guys!

I figured from other forums that Err 99 is electric circuit error related.

Mr Earl, thanks! I used the Smart Recovery Tool. I've managed to save some images but the nicest, important ones are all history. Did the recovery 3x. Ah well, they werent meant to be saved. My only problem now is how to explain to my client. :D How unprofessional!? I'd better bring a laptop next time... grrrr!

just be honest about it. it happens to a lot of people.

for some, they give a refund or offer an extra service to compensate for the loss. i've heard a story of a photographer in davao who started pointing fingers and blaming the loss on the minilab, not accepting responsibility or apologizing for what happened. whether or not that was true, we hope that we don't get into that mess.

Great advice Mr Nino. I'll do that.

One regret though is buying that Transcend CF from Camera Haus for P2k+. :BlackEye: I just found out that they dont offer any warranty on that card. I bought a Kingston 1Gb from CD-R King @ P1,700, 2 months ago, but, at least they offer 6 months warranty. Has anyone read any bad reviews about Transcend card? or it could have been a defective release?
