At the back of a rather messy taxi (teksi as Malaysians would like to pronounce it. WWWW) on my way to Stanford hotel in the seedy district of Chowkit.

The guy was fair this time when I mentioned the magic word "Filipino" and the phrase "I am just a student from the University" so he didn't charge me much. It was same night as Diwali so it was traffic and not to mention lonely. I had another Bob Harris moment back at the hotel.

Randall, this is your shot that got me the most. Ang ganda tol! you could just look at the face of the lady and think of thousands of things that could be bothering her.

But for me, the colors are a bit of distraction. If in black and white, I think it would make this photo more evocative.:)

So I suggest Randall, resign from your job and and find another job which would require you to take the MRT again, ok? hehehe. Malufet ka tol! Keep it up!

Thanks! :Grin: I'm still experimenting with black and white conversion and I wasn't keen on the b&w version because I kept getting the the sunlight on her face blown out further when I got the to my desired black tones. So I just opted for desaturated colors to get the focus back to the girl.

As for resigning, I wouldn't do that yet as my current job had a big contribution on my getting into photography. Maybe I'll just schedule pointless roundtrip MRT rides when I have the time? :D

My friend in NY actually got me started with this and showed me Travis Ruse's photoblog about the NY subway. http://www.travisruse.com/ His photos are amazing! Check out the FAQ section where he has some tips on photographing strangers and his normal processing work.

But if there's one thing I learned about people... if they're generally looking at your direction, raise your camera, and they'll look straight at you for a second or so before turning away. I guess timing is key.

As for her mood, I think it was a combination of the hot sunlight behind her and the fact I was taking her photo? But everytime I look at the photo, her deep expression still intrigues me.

I wish I was brave as you! Having been held-up once in a jeepney, I never take out my electronics in buses and jeepneys eversince . And I usually take shuttle vans than PUBs/PUJs nowadays.

I live in the south so there was only a couple of times I got to ride the LRT3; but it's nice to take photos there since the cars are large and roomy and the lights inside are a little on the warm side. With the MRT2's packed cars, I guess you get to fit alot on a single frame though.

I was riding a jeep with my hubby late last night. I discreetly tried to take pictures of passengers with the Canon S3 IS on my lap. Of the 5 shots I took, only the picture below looked alright.

@Bernard: That island is part of the fishing town Concepcion in Iloilo. Pan de Azucar is supposed to be one of the highest pts in Panay. Nice out of the way, quaint and quiet place.

What's commuting in NZ like?
People are friendlier and smile at you a lot. It's hard to find that in Manila now. I usually get the suspicious look whenever I smile at people. They either clutch their bags or hide their cellphones.
I haven't ridden the public bus for 10 years now so I don't know what it's like at present. Riding tourist buses is fun especially when you're with quirky European backpackers.
What I really wanted to do is ride the Overlander train from Auckland to Wellington. The service was nearly scrapped last July because of competition from airlines and buses with their cheaper rates. I'll try and post some pics of one of its stations later.

I used the 20D with the 24-105. I just shoot real quick. They probably thought I'm a Japanese tourist so they didn't mind. :Dum: I was even asked by a couple of east European tourists to take a picture of them at the train station in Blenheim.
