Hi guys,
The original print of my son's graduation pic had been water damage due to the negligence of my maid. The only copy I have is the one included in the yearbook. Is there a place (studio) where I can go to have it processed so that I can print it similar to the original printout.

There will be a bit of loss in image quality.
You're right in expecting something only similar to the original output.
The problem lies in the fact that the image in the yearbook isn't a continuous tone image (i.e Photo lab print).
The image in the yearbook is made of of small dots or halftone dots.

The halftone dots might be visible in digital image after scanning.
Cheers!

you can have ir reprinted. I think those that really offer professional photography for school yearbook requirement actually keeps a file of the negatives or dvds of the image files. Ask the school who took the pictures and ask for a re-print.

My wife recently tried to do the same thing. I was recently reminded of it when I saw the scanned file.
Try using descreen (I think that's what it's called :D) if your scanner driver has the option. It's supposed to help reduce the appearance of the halftone dots. You might lose a bit of detail though.

Hi Jo,
i'm using a canon scanner and there is an option - magazine instead of photo.. It somehow reduced the halftone dots... My only problem right now is that the actual yearbook is a bit dirty.. There are small red smudges in the print..
