I tried searching the forum for this but failed to find information. Would anyone happen to know where to purchase this software? :)

Thanks! :)

Hello Ivan,

I think you can purchase online (using Nikon Store). You might not have a real CD copy, but you just need to download it (if you haven't already) and pay the licenese via cr. card.

Hello John,

The last Nikonware i used was the Nikon Capture 3 set, which was already 4 perhaps 5 years old. Then NX2. I had jumped from C3 to NX2, which, when complemented with the Camera Capture Control Pro is just exciting.

Most of my Post are done on Photoshop, but the power of NX2's selective color control points are waaaay too beautiful to miss. Its easy and you have unbelievable control over your image. It also loads and previews NEF Raw corrections on the fly, like Aperture and Lightroom, but in my opinion, faster. If NX has the color control point feature already, i think the changes are minor. These days, my images are printed from jpegs generated from NX2 and PS is used as a secondary image editing tool na lang.

I don't know if PS CS4 already has this feature.

I used this for a month, and i simply love the output. The raw conversions are much better than LR2 or ACR. You get to keep the Picture Controls (if you're using D90, D300 and D3's) included in the conversion (you can argue that LR2 has dng profiles for Nikon Picture Controls, but its still not the same, I tell you)...

This is the first NX that is actually usable without buying a supercomputer. It would just work fine on a Core2, 1gb memory. The previous version of NX is frustatingly slow.

The interface is almost the same, except the base adjustment has been widened for Nikon picture controls (which the former version doesn't have), and the fill-in light function (or d-lighting function) is much better than the old one (in my opinion).

Try it! Its free naman for 1month...

Marlo, There is a plug-in for CS4 called Viveza (it works for lower PS versions as well). It uses the U-point technology (similarly used in NX and NX2). Its by the same developers: Nik Software. I think there is a package being sold now for 200usd, that includes Nik Viveza + Silver EFex (the best B+W converter in my opionion) + Color EFex (similar to Alien Skin Exposure with the film simulation) + Nik Sharpener (for printing)....

@Melvin,

So thats what the Viveza and SilverFX are for. I keep getting 'em emails from Nik software but was too lousy to even read.

Yes, your inputs and experience with NX2 is exactly the same as mine, which was reason enough for me to purchase a license. I run it on an 8-core macpro and mannnn!!!.. it rips like a hot wheel.

The color control point contrast adjustment is just amazing!

Hey Melvin,

Thanks for the response. I thought I need to buy in a store (which has a physical CD) :) hehehe

The 1st NX is really slow. NX2 is better. I got to use the picture controls that are loaded in NX2 on my D80's RAW files. NX is a saviour for those trying to figure out the best settings for different situations. Learned a lot from this software. I use PS for batch resize and watermark only.

Here's my setup:

Nikon Transfer - to transfer NEF RAW from camera / mem card to laptop
ViewNX - to choose which images will be put through
CaptureNX2 - for black / white balance and straightening
Photoshop Lightroom - for any more PP and exporting to JPG
Photoshop CS4 Extended - resizing and watermark placement

It's a very tedious workflow and I'm bound to just go with Lightroom all the way to import images from the camera / mem card to the laptop sometime soon once I get comfortable with Lightroom so as to let go of the Nikon softwares. However, am very happy with the way that Capture NX2 performs for my needs. When adding all the other bells and whistles I just shift to Lightroom.

I've been using Nikon Capture NX2. I've loved it so far. But im having problems when it comes to printing.

I have 2 "suki" print labs. Print lab 1 prints sRGB. and Print Lab 2 prints Adobe RGB
I've had successes with both print labs printing jpg files from camera (they were original jpg files from cam) The colors and everything else were right on the dot.

Now here comes the problem. I started taking RAW from a d700. as usual NX2 delivers everything. Then I save them into sRGB for web and Adobe RGB for the other print shop.

Im having problems printing in the same print shops. Specially the Adobe RGB why is this? when in the same print lab I have printed Adobe RGB jpegs straight from the Cam. What's so different from an Adobe RGB jpg from NX2?

The pictures look wash out. It looks like an Adobe RGB JPG printed in an SRGB Printer.

NX2 has multiple RGB color management schemes for color management and printer profiles, not to mention Adobe RGB schemes.
There's Nikon Adobe RGB, Nikon AdobeWide RGB and AdobeRGB (1998).
You might want to check under Preferences-Color Management which version is your default for color management and for printer profile and ask your lab which one they use.
