hi guys,
what's the advantage of a constant aperture (f/2.8, f/1.8, etc) vs. a variable one (f/3.5-5.6, f/4-5.6, etc.). ?

the biggest aperture stays constant all throughout the whole lens range... :)

The advantage of having a constant aperture is that you will be able to use this aperture from the shortest to the longest focal lenght of the lens. This means constant amount of light is getting in the lens regardles of the focal length. This is specially beneficial at the long side of the lens. The f/2.8 allows you to use faster shutter speed.
