Just taking off from John Palafox’ post. Here is my comment and some pictures regarding 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor. Got this more than a month ago.
Strengths:
- Ultra fast focus speed
- ultra sharp
- very good bokeh
- solid feel/very good build and superb looking lens
- VR functionality (2 to 3 stops down)
- In short --- god’s gift to Nikonians J
Weaknesses:
- very heavy (if you are not used to it)
- susceptible to flare (but the hood eliminates that)
- expensive (US$1,599 B&H)
- definitely the white/silver version since grummy fingers will definitely mark on it (mine is black)
- bad pictures (photographer’s fault)
This is really perfect for my wedding photography – hell… any. J. Here are some outputs.

I have to disagree with this since I am one of those who have these rare variants. There's no silver and it's not really white, it's really more of a light grey one. I don't think of it as a weakness and yes it does get dirty but same as with other lenses. If you actually put it side by side with it's Canon counterpart... The colour is almost the same, but I've never heard anyone from that side complaining about it, actually it's more of the opposite and used as bragging points. Just my 2 Yen.
BTW, the pictures are nice. :)

hi earl,
at first i was really thinking of getting the non-black color for differentiation purposes. it was actually the sales clerk that discouraged me. i think the most important thing than the color is that it is a NIKON right -- yabang :)

There is actually a thread about this lens, maybe they should be merged? :)

Fol, Wow... Really? A sales clerk discouraged you? Where is this outlet? :)

My dream lens! But black for me. I associate white with Canon.

Canons = White lens, red ring!
Nikons = Light Grey lens, Bronze Ring and Engraved Metal Plate! :)

i'm very happy with my grey! i had numerous photogs who have asked me where I got mine, or were surprised there's a "white" version.
the only disadvantage is during street photography. too laud (esp. with the hood on) and grabs so much attention. Kids actually asked me, "Kuya, telescope yan?" Adults asked me, "hanggang saan ang abot nyan?" ngek!

I can relate to that, but really it does serve it's main purpose well! It reflects off heat... I can attest to this fact specially after long trekks with this lens, being beaten down by our equatorial sun. :) It really works!
