Hi, when printing 4x6 photos what DPI setting should I use? The choices are 72, 150, 300 and 600. Normally under Windows there'd be automatic settings like 'Draft', 'Text', 'Photo', etc. but I'm migrating to Linux and need to adjust settings manually.
I've tried Googling it but every site has a different opinion. I use an Epson R290 with a maximum DPI of 5760, but one site says 300 is okay. Another says set it to the maximum. Should I use 300 or 600? If both of those are too low I can probably modify the program to set it higher. Thanks.

it depends on the medium you'll using, 50, 72, 96 & 150dpi is usually for large printing that best viewed with a certain distance, 300dpi normally in photopapers, C2S's, like brochures, magazine ads that you can hold & see close to your eyes, 600dpi is for special mediums such as leather printing, or duratrans & clear acrylic for small backlit purposes such as small module for merchandise

Yes, I just want to print on photo paper. So is 300 DPI enough?

PPI is different from DPI.
