I hope it's OK to make this thread. Mods, kindly re-direct incase there is a similar one in existence already. TIA!

Wouldn't it be nice to see the man behind the cam... be it film or digital. Please post a self potrait and a short (or long) caps to go it. Maybe say something about how it has helped or inspired you in any way. I still haven't got a decent self portrait but maybe this should do for now.

Photography and DPP has been a sanctuary for me for over a year now. I start and end the day peeking into DPP, witnessing the creativity of hundreds of individuals everyday. It's amazing how we view the world through our glass.

Thanks to photography, even for just a hobbyist like me, it has saved me in so many ways. I heart my alpha, photography and DPP! :) :) :)

How are you, Doc? Nice to see you around :)

Thanks, Doc D.

You don't have to put anything. Your avatar will do just nicely. And just sharing your and showing your love for photography will be more than enough.... and thanks for all your great images! God bless :)

Thanks Lally! This is an interesting topic. Especially with that nice intro. :)

Just an idea though... do you think this thread would be great if it was on the "Portraiture, Glamor, Fashion..." section?

One of the things I teach my students is "MIND THE CATCHLIGHT". I usually tell them that catchlights are desirable because they add life to portraits. Placing the cathlight either at the 10 o'clock or the 2 o'lclock position is usually ideal and is fairly easy to do.

After explaining all about catchlights, I ask them if they understand the concept. When they say yes, I challenge one of them to take my photo and make sure the catchlights are nicely placed.

No one has ever succeeded in this challenge.

sir nath, is there another solution than retouching the photo?

Or use Liquid paper to paint the catchlight. ;)

hehe nath, you seem to be a fun teacher :D but really, that's a good portrait especially with that funny eye... very spontaneous and ligh-hearted :) I like that shot!

hahaha.. yeah i saw that comment but there are more brutal suggestions.. :D

Here's my try: I would position myself a step away from the softbox, make the model look in that direction and take the photo.. if that will not work I will turn off the soft box, use my on-cam flash (with diffuser).. the catchlight will be a mirrored one.. one at 10 o’clock while the other at 2 o’clock..

If these ideas will not work. I would take the photo as a fun candid shot.

Hi Dindz, I'll just copy and paste what I typed over at the other thread - to help you in inserting an image (from flickr):

^Hi Roger, it should of this format [ i m g ] <put url of image here> [ / i m g ]
Or just click on the insert image icon on the panel (the one that looks like a mountain with the Sun - you can hover your mouse on the icons and a popup message will appear) and paste the url of your image on the pop window.
From your flickr page : http://flickr.com/photos/31110892@N0...15732/sizes/o/ (http://flickr.com/photos/31110892@N05/3166815732/sizes/o/) right click on the image and click Copy Image Location to get the URL of your image:

I inherited my father's XG2 a few months ago. I'm still learning how to use it -- properly. I'm still letting this passion grow. :)

I think Ken meant the revolutionary way it twists and turns :P
"By using a rotating two-part body, the entire information display can revolve with the head between two different vertical orientations and the normal horizontal position."
Watch the video from PhotoclubAlpha (http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2008/06/19/sonys-flash-revolution-the-hvl-f58am/), it already looks like a robot :D :D :D
