Adrien Uichico 10-24-2006, 11:21 PM Hi guys, I am adrien uichico, I would just like to share some of my underwater pics all taken around anilao batangas. Most of these shots were taken with an ixus 400 with an inon d2000s strobe and ultralight arms, a few were taken with a sea and sea 350d housing with ys90 strobes, enjoy...:RedEye:

I'm green with envy!!!!:D
I like the yellow one too!!! Maybe we can set something up with Caloy and the other UW photographers and do dives together...
We take a lot of time in one spot, it's difficult to dive with non photo divers.:(
caloy_samson 10-26-2006, 10:52 AM @Doy - true, I always end up diving solo when everybody is already up....
Adrien Uichico 10-26-2006, 12:14 PM its really really hard diving with people that dont take underwater photos, I learned this last summer when Jonathan Bird a videographer from the states came over, thats the first time me and the dive guides from Dive Solana experienced 90-100 minute dives, and like 3 dives a day grabe!!!:RedEye: But us u/w photogs really move slower talaga, looking around looking for critters diba?:)
Setting up something for the underwater photogs here in DPP would be a great idea, we can all dive together and get a few guides for spotters:D :D
Darryl Ong 10-26-2006, 02:25 PM ei sama ako:)
btw is patima 350d underwater housing available here?
how much did it cost?
hope i don't have to sell my kidney for these one:D
Adrien Uichico 10-26-2006, 10:31 PM hi therat, im the distributor here in the Philippines for PATIMA, pm me for the price list but usually it goes for $1500 for the housing:)
eric- thanks very much,I am glad you like the pictures:)
Adrien Uichico 10-26-2006, 11:23 PM heres the patima 350d housing:) just got it a few days ago, cant wait to try it out:Dum:

Thanks for sharing.
Doy Tan 10-27-2006, 07:46 AM Nice!!!! That's another investment to work on...
Jovit_Morando 10-27-2006, 08:19 AM question po.
aside from the housing and strobes, what else does one need for u/w photography?
how much does a strobe cost?
Adrien Uichico 10-27-2006, 08:37 AM eric and doy- kaya nga pulubi na ako forthe next few years dahil dyan, hahahahahaha:Grin:
Adrien Uichico 10-27-2006, 10:16 AM hi jovit well you will need the lens ports depending on what you will be shooting, some people get dioptre's for more magnification. Another important item you will need are strobe arms that connect to your housing, to hold the strobes, personally the ultralight arms and clamps are the best (www.ulcs.com) easy to move and position underwater. The strobes usually cost $500-$700 a piece and you need two of them to properly light your subject. Hope this helps:)
Jovit_Morando 10-27-2006, 10:42 AM tnx adrien.
that would amount to around USD3000.... wow, that means I'm still long way to go before I could do some underwater photography. Considering that I only dive few times in a year (still studying law), US$ 3000 is quite a big investment.
Is there any shop that offers underwater photography equipments on rental basis?
Gutsy Tuason 10-27-2006, 05:33 PM Hey Bro,
welcome to the forum. keep the post coming and keep on shooting. nice pics

Sup dude? Hows everything? Thanks man, those pics were the ones I took using the ixus, gonna take out the new housing this weekend, wish me luck:) when you gonna head down to solana again pare?
Doy Tan 10-28-2006, 02:33 PM tnx adrien.

Start with a P&S camera with UW case.
Here's an album from flickr by Bob Whorton http://www.flickr.com/photos/bob_whorton/sets/72057594065326854/
most photos taken with a fujifilm E900 http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/lineup/e900/index.html
Additional investment on Macro Lense and Strobe.
Adrien Uichico 10-29-2006, 01:18 AM bob whorton calls himself "a wet old fart" Ganda nang mga shots niya!!! Im amazed with some of the shots that he posted in the other underwater photography forums.
A really ironic thing happened to me today, I dove with some guests from HK today and took the housing along, since they say thats its best first to take a new housing test dowm for a leak test to make sure everythings okay, near the end of our dive my guest spotted a BLUE RING OCTOPUS and there I was with my housing with no camera!!!!:KO: Ive been looking for this thing for so long and now that I get to see it im caught with my pants down:Angry: I looked like a complete idiot in the water. Buti nalang my guest had an underwater videocam and he got some really great footage of it, when we watched it we kept on laughing because you could hear me screaming like a girl in the background. Its like gutsy said in his book, there are some things that arent meant to be photographed:Oops:
eric_javier 10-29-2006, 05:15 AM eric and doy- kaya nga pulubi na ako forthe next few years dahil dyan, hahahahahaha:
That's very true, I've been there.
To Jovit, highly recommend the P&S sytem with plastic or fiber glass housing for beginners, and second things is HOW OFTEN DO YOU DIVE to invest on the $5,000.00(Camera, Housing and Strobe) set up???
Just my two cents..

zandy_marantal 10-29-2006, 09:08 AM It must be uber cool to shoot pics underwater as it's a very colorful world they have down there.

Idol ko din si Gutsy and si Dr. Bob!!! Have you seen Fiona Ayerst's Album on Flickr? She swims with tiger sharks!!! She said shell take me if I get to visit So. Africa. That would be a thrill but I think I'll sh#t in my pants!
As for not having a your favorite equipment UW when you most need it? It happens all the time!!!! Saw a pillow starfish with 2 leopard nudis on the side!!! Syempre di ko dala camera ko kasi nag guide kami ng OW students!!!
Princess Jarlyn Young 10-30-2006, 05:46 PM hi there! =) :)
i am using 350d. i just read the whole thread for this topic and you informed that it's $1,500.. hmm. who said photography isn't expensive.. =) probably before i get the UW equipment, i need to learn diving first. i have inquired UW diving already so, probably all the UW photographers can dive/ photograph together..
thanks again! =)

eric_javier 10-30-2006, 06:18 PM well if your on budget try this one, ika nila nasa Indian wala sa Pana (they say that it's in the eye of Geronimo not in his bow).

To those that dont know Nonoy is a very talented underwater photographer, some of his pics have already been published in international publications. He is the best person to ask questions about underwater photography since he is a very good teacher:)
Nonoy Tan 11-01-2006, 05:18 PM Hi Adrien,
You are always welcome! I am always willing to share, as I was also once a receipient of selflessness from Gutsy when I was a newbie many years ago.
If you can get a group together, we can do some dives and have informal "sessions". I also promised the same to Ellen who likewise made a similar inquiry in behalf of her customers who purchase uw photo equipment. Maybe you both can coordinate.
Nonoy
P.S. How are your uw photo dive guides doing? I hope that they continue to practice what they have learned during the workshop.
Marilen Sayas 11-01-2006, 05:53 PM wow hangggg ganda naman :)

Nonoy Tan 11-02-2006, 10:56 PM Everybody is welcome to join us, especially those not using DLSRs. I particularly appreciate point and shoot cameras because I started uw photography with an Ikelite FILM (not digital) point and shoot. It was a disposable camera but I managed to customize it so that I can reload film (mahal kasi ang replacement disposable camera). Thus, the camera was not disposable no more. As my pocket allowed, I transitioned into SLRs. Nonetheless I remember the enjoyment I had with my first camera. :) Its simplicity allowed me to concentrate on improving my diving skills, stealth, and air consumption - instead of camera controls and buttons.
I hope to meet you all in person someday!
