TEAM PANAY was recently chosen as the official Team Olympus for the 2008 Bacolod Maskarra 2008 Festival.

Team Oly was formed by GODFREY CONCEPCION of Axis Global, exclusive distributor of OLYMPUS in the Philippines. Members of the 6 man Team were fellow PDS members Paul Chiongson, Z Golez, Cocoy Paguio, Manjo Uy and Kha Santia.

An Olympus E-3 was assigned to me coupled with a 50-200 f/2.8-3.5 SWD Lens and an extra 150mm lens. At first, I had a hard time learning the OLY system since I'm really a Nikonian. But once you get the hang of it, It's quite easy to use.

The E-3 is Oly's top of the line Semi-pro camera, weather sealed, and 10+ megapixels. The Colors of the E-3 are quite vivid and alive as seen in the pictures I am posting. No post processing needed or if you want to process it a bit, you can do it minimally. Since, we were shooting Philippine Festivals, I decided that the theme of my shoot be FULL of COLORS making the IMAGES Alive.

The E-3 is a really nice camera, boasting of In-cam Image Stabilization to Noise Free ISO up to 1600. But one thing that hit me the most is that you could customize the camera to your shooting style, from the colors you want, the sharpness you need, and details of the image you need to get. The Gradation feature is one thing that really impressed me the most: one instance the street was backlighted, pressing the gradation in the menu set at high key, lit all the dark shadowed areas of the pictures. One click just like magic.

The lenses assigned to me were superb pieces of glass. Nice bokeh, sharpness. One thing that I noticed that at times there were instances that I found the focusing slow. I guess I just forgot customize the lens regarding the minimal focusing distance. As we all know, the crop factor of Olympus is x2 so, a 150mm lens gives you a focal length of 300mm.

Overall I'd rate the perfomance of the camera 9/10.

Thanks Olympus for giving me the opportunity to give a short hands on review of E-3 and the 50-200mm f/2.8 SWD and the 150mm f/2.0 lenses.

Here are the pics I took during Maskarra 2008 with an Olympus e-3 proudly without post processing. Thanks for viewing.
