View Full Version : American Le Mans finale
Giovanni de la Cruz 10-24-2006, 03:33 AM Went to the last race of the American Le Mans Series in Laguna Seca. Been dying to try out my revised panning techniques (first one wasn't very good). The deal with the 300mm f2.8 didn't pan out so had to settle for my trusty sigma 70-300 (it did well until the light really started to fade out).

Giovanni de la Cruz 10-24-2006, 03:44 AM I had a whole lot more keepers during this outing, waaaay more. My worst in this race was probably my best during my first attempt at panning at the US motogp event. I used the monopod like a stand to stabilize the cam or I hugged the monopod against my body. A faster lens would have helped at dusk but the majority of the race was in good light so it wasn't really very important. If this was the 12 hours of sebring or le mans, a faster lens would have been essential. I did have a good dose of lens envy looking at those loooooong white lenses on the canon. But nothing like the inadequacy I felt after seeing this.... :D

Giovanni de la Cruz 10-24-2006, 03:53 AM LOL! Talk about Richie Rich!
LOL! I know. My eyes bugged out when I saw the little kid with such a nice big lens. It looked like he knew how to use it too. Maybe a pro in the making. Looked pinoy too.
Earl Gonzalez 10-24-2006, 06:45 AM WHOAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Laguna Seca! What DA?!?! I can only see this frickin' place while playing Gran Turismo in my playstation... And the cars are awesome! Thanks for sharing Giovanni! :)

Thanks, bro. You should have gone. It was a blast. As for the settings, photos were shot on shutter priority at 1/125-1/160. F-values were anywhere from 20 during early afternoon to 8 or lower later in the afternoon.

Poor aston though :(
fidel_mercado 10-24-2006, 10:27 AM Yeah, should have went to that instead. Oh okay, thanks for confirming 1/125-1/160, was not so sure about the shutter when it comes to race cars. Visited my Sta. Clara friends and I don't think it was as fun as that. Hehehe, I'm mean. :D

You weren't that far from me. I work at Kaiser Santa Clara (for the time being).
Here's what happens when you don't have a fast lens and you try to pan anyway...
