thanks for the link willy. i wouldnt even bother or risk it. stuff like this should only be left to the technically inclined:) removing the ir blocker is a very very fragile process and one wrong move will render your camera as junk.

anyone want to make their d70s the guinea pig?

Actually, when you remove the AA or lowpass filter, the vacuum between it and the sensor will be gone. This means, dust will adhere to the sensor and I don't know what will happen if you try cleaning the actual sensor as its surface is not as hard as the lowpass filter.

FYI, early this year I asked, the cost of a D70 sensor assembly is 45K.

good luck.

if the intention is to make your vertical grip compatible, i suggest you chek out the new d70 vertical grips at hksupplies.com. No more infra-red wires - just a jack to connect to the d70. Plus the vertical grip is fully functional(may auto-focus). Wow, i suggest you dont re-program or open the D70. Thanks

Hi Noel. This is not to make it vertical grip compatible but to convert it into an IR camera. Infra red shots are mysterious to me....I might do this to my camera, just in case...

As they say, no guts, no glory.

It's different from the conversion sa lifepixel.com.

By just removing the hotmirror, the camera accepts visible light + ir range

The one at lifepixel replaces the hotmirror with one that blocks visible light and only accepts light from the ir range similar to using a Hoya R72 filter.
