View Full Version : "Maybe you can't make money doing what you love" by Seth Godin Harvey_Chua 10-15-2008, 08:09 PM Here's an interesting read: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/10/maybe-you-cant.html Princess Jarlyn Young 10-15-2008, 08:48 PM great read! :) thanks for sharing them. do what you love.. you end up going home with a lighter heart. :) ReD Ognita 10-15-2008, 09:20 PM As cez said it, it's a good read madame. Spoke to a curator when I was in Manila. He told me a story about someone who asked him what is the secret behind a successful exhibit He said that if he wants a sold-out exhibit he should display his flower works, those that can be matched with the sofa and curtains of prospective buyers. But then again, would it be still be him? The person went ahead with his own stuff and eventually had a good exhibit. With the appeal of money, it's easy to loose track. "uy, mabenta 'to, I'll make more of these" ... and before you know it, you're making things for the money. It is a piece of you that will hang on the walls. ReD Ognita 10-15-2008, 09:45 PM That's true cez. Maybe that's why most of the pros that we know have their own personal portfolio. Their personal projects. Shoot their own style. Their own time. Their own right. It's always nice to look at someone's personal works/projects rather than those they were asked to do. A glimpse inside the artist without the influence of money. Harvey....thanks for the link. This made me re-think my "retirement" plan. For sure I'll focus on what I love to do first....if money comes...great...it not....still great since I'm doing what I love already. JohnLeonardBatongbakal 10-18-2008, 07:45 PM I couldn't agree more with Red.. LOL. Jonathan Burgos 11-21-2008, 01:06 AM another kudos to Maam Harvey! bongbajo 11-21-2008, 01:34 AM Great read.... that's my fear as well. That turning my photog hobby into a business might ruin everything. But somehow if I can make a business system around it that it makes me money without me becoming too involved, that would be best. that's what i am working on right now. Cheers! |
