THANKS. Hi Michael, I use it, and it's one of Canon's sharpest lenses (edge to edge), right up there with the 300 2.8L IS and 500 f4 L IS. Focusing is fast if you set the focus limiter to the proper setting. I sometimes use it as a portrait lens too, but it's unmercifully sharp even wide open (f/2.8) in that it records everything - warts and all...:) It can be hand held in good light, and is a nice compromise length between the 50/60 mm macros and the longish 180/150 mm ones. I'd highly recommend it. Romy bernard billedo 10-22-2006, 06:09 PM Go ahead and get one. It's one sharp lens. The only thing I hate about it is the slow autofocusing which is understandable given it's a macro lens. It's also my favorite lens for low-light small gig photography. here's a sample: http://www.bernardbilledo.com/gallery2/d/2691-2/bc-060508-0019.jpg Alan Fontanilla 12-16-2006, 06:43 PM I'm so excited to "test run" my new lens ... can't find a langaw or a bug yet, so settled for colored pencils. Buddy Arancon 01-10-2007, 01:02 PM someone is selling canon usa refurbished units for 23k. do u think it is a good deal?:) Alan Fontanilla 01-10-2007, 01:05 PM If you want the performance of 100 mm Macro - its a good lens to include in the arsenal if you are doing macros. Otherwise, even at a discounted price and you really dont do macros - then its a waste of resources. But if you do .. and the lens is in perfect condition - then P23 k is a steal. a brand new one costs P29k in Hidalgo. I have one. Check out the other threads discussing the performance of the Canon 100mm Macro - its been discussed lenghtily already in the forums. Alan Buddy Arancon 01-10-2007, 02:05 PM thanks alan! i have used one before and it is certainly one of the top macro lens around. however, the guy is selling CANON USA REFURBISHED units. i am not so sure of its down side. that is why im posting this shout out coz i definitely have no clue on what these things are. I can only assumed that its like "pre-owned" cars ... 2nd hand but is like new - because the lens was "refurbished" by Canon and not just some third party. Or try sending a PM to Ann Francisco - she's from Canon. Yun lang .. Thanks! 27k ata... Alain Domingo 04-14-2010, 08:25 PM I've called 2 D-Zone stores, 2 Pixel Pro stores, JT Photo, and visited Infomax and they all said that they've never had this lens. In fact, they would correct me saying that it's a 2.8 Macro and I'd tell them that's a different 100mm. I know there's an EF 85mm f/1.8 USM but I'd like to know if the 100 is just as sharp if not sharper than the 85. Thank you. errol_roldan 04-14-2010, 09:46 PM you know what, ive never seen that lens here in the Phils. ive even forgotten about the existence of it. even hidalgo stores does not sell that lens. though im sure they can get it for you're really interested. jijodeguzman 04-14-2010, 10:03 PM I've tried both and know 3 other guys who have tested both lenses too. We all prefer the 85mm f1.8. The reviews also slightly favor the 85mm. I can have it purchased abroad but that means - 1. paying for it in CASH right away; and 2. having to wait for it to arrive in Manila. Just curious why no one sells it here. Thanks Errol. The reviews I've read also favor the 85 over the 100, the 100 being a tad bit long and tight for indoor shooting. Thanks Jijo. infomax sm megamall has it before.my brother in law bought it from there. i have the 85mm and was able to use the 100mm. i agree with Sir Jijo, 100mm is a bit long and tight for indoor shooting. i suggest that you get the 85mm. my 2 cents....:) Alain Domingo 04-15-2010, 01:18 PM infomax sm megamall has it before.my brother in law bought it from there. i have the 85mm and was able to use the 100mm. i agree with Sir Jijo, 100mm is a bit long and tight for indoor shooting. i suggest that you get the 85mm. my 2 cents....:) Ooooh, Infomax(translation : expensive compared to other stores). I'm planning to buy this as my walk-around lens. Thanks. marcomariano 06-07-2011, 09:31 AM its a tried, tested, reliable, etc-etc... macro lens... down side is (not really), there's L IS version... PaoZapatero 06-08-2011, 10:14 AM Any inputs on this lens? I'm planning to buy this as my walk-around lens. Thanks. A MACRO lens won't do yo any good as a walk-around lens. This is technically a Prime Lens, so no flexibility, only really good in shooting portraits...
