View Full Version : on Battery Grip... mayk_cruz 10-21-2006, 11:55 PM What is it for and Who needs it? Angelo Jacinto 10-22-2006, 12:33 AM If you shoot a lot in portrait mode, use heavy telephoto lenses, or just plain like a heftier grip to your camera, then you might do well to add a battery grip. Since it allows correct technique in holding a camera at portrait orientation and adds a bit of mass to counter unnecessary movement, I personally find I have a higher keeper rate with a grip attached while shooting events. Raffy Crucillo 10-22-2006, 06:52 AM For me, it makes the camera easier to hold, and somehow more balanced (especially with the longer lenses). levi lacandula 10-22-2006, 10:09 AM i agree with raffy... primarily for balance and stability of the camera. not to mention the added power you have with 2 batts in it:) fidel_mercado 10-22-2006, 11:36 AM I love my battery grip on my 350D. It reduces hand fatigue and gives my fingers extra space. And I agree with what has been said on this thread; the added power and stability is a plus. I also noticed that I don't get lazy taking more photos with it attached since the camera is much easier to use. :) mackyfaylona 10-23-2006, 12:14 AM Totally agree with all of you guys. I have the 400D and I feel that it is too small for my hands so I got myself a battery grip. I just hope that canon can think of a way to charge the battery tray in one single go than taking out the battery one at a time and charge it. zandy_marantal 10-23-2006, 04:14 AM For me, the added weight and bulk was a turn-off that's why I eventually sold it. JonDexterTan 10-23-2006, 07:16 AM i've big hands and the battery grip on my 30D is a lot of help on letting me hold the camera comfortably. regarding the weight, i got an optech neck strap for it. :D mayk_cruz 10-27-2006, 02:07 AM Thanks for Ur inputs guys, i will probably get myself a battery grip then.... Tok Paler 10-27-2006, 03:23 AM for me, it's primarily the extra power i get off it. my batteries lasts 3 days plus of moderate shooting. only problem is, you have to shell out more for extra bats to maximize it. plus it looks heftier, hence looks cooler with it on! =b i've big hands and the battery grip on my 30D is a lot of help on letting me hold the camera comfortably. regarding the weight, i got an optech neck strap for it. :D hmmm.. big hands?! you know what they say! =b hehehehe! i got the optech strap as well! what are your feedbacks? JonDexterTan 10-27-2006, 07:02 AM tok! hahaha! about the optech? they're perfect for me! :D they don't bounce as those cheapos and many swear bout the qr buckle holding up for years. :D hehe! jose_deluna 11-04-2006, 08:33 PM One scientific benefit of having a battery grip pack... lessens noise. Sensor heat contributes a lot in introducing noise to your digital images. It so happened that the placement of the battery is very near the sensor. We all know that battery as a source of power emits heat that somehow affects our camera sensor. By removing the battery from the main camera body through the use of battery grip pack, heat on camera sensor is somehow lessened, thus, less chance of introducing noise to images. Hi Jose, Any links to back up this claim? Just curious... jose_deluna 11-26-2006, 04:31 PM Hi Jose, Any links to back up this claim? Just curious... @Zandy... none so far (documented studies and research), although subject has been discussed in Minolta forums (e.g. dyxum). But from personal experience, it does hold true, I happen to shoot in continuous shooting mode using the Dynax 7D (concerts, theater plays), and the battery really gets hot after a while (you can feel the heat of the camera grip where the battery resides). I did compared shots (with and without the VC-7D grip), and the noise are fairly lessened in photos using the accessory vertical grip.
