I forgot to bring my 50mm F1.8, when I went to my bro's bar (Bela Bar @ San Juan). I only had my D50 kit and my sigma 55-200 DC.

with proper technique, even at 105mm@f4 handheld iso1600 i was able to get this shot.

i think i can do concert bar shooting without a f2.8! Pushing to 200mm, i wasn't so successful. But still in this conditions, 105mm F4 IS0 800 up will get good results.

Very nice. Noise-free at ISO 1600 or did you use a noise-removing software?

marty,

those were impressive ...
have always been wary shooting at ISO 800 and above with my D70s ...
hope you can share your "proper technique" ...
thanks ...

My shutter was 1/125. I did not breathe when I pressed the shutter!

no noise reduction. np post processing. just note that it seems that pure black does not register noise as much compared to a tint; but the image is quite soft because of high Iso.

good that there was enough light for you to hit 1/125! imagine what more if the lights were dimmer? I did that once using my 18-200mm VR... shooting at 1/40 at 200mm... o bokya. motion blur inabot ko. but at least the static surroundings were really sharp. heheheh

That one of the major benefits of using the D50. It handles noise better than any of the Nikon DSLR's including the their flagship D2xs.

I have yet to see a comparison with it and the new D80 though.

im so sorry to chime in. But i dont think not breathing is the proper technique.

If you dont breathe your muscles will tense up. Proper technique is to breathe out while pressing the shutter.

not unless im a mistaken idiot in which case you guys need to school me some more.....

Hi Chris,
No, you are not a mistaken idoit, some things work for some folks. Ernie Els has a funny swing that his coaches tried to fix (when he was still an amatuer). Even Django Bustamante has a chicken wing stroke - whatever works. And by the way, did it occur to you it could be a figure of speech.
God bless.

@Marty,
nice

what i learned in this event is that sometimes you don't have to trust your metering system to record good lighting.. :D
