I'am currently thinking of buying any of the three brands sigma,tamron or tokina for my d70s the specs I'm looking at are the 28-300 F3.5-... lens. I would love to buy a nikkor lens but price is to much for me.

Any input or other suggestions will greatly be appreciated. I might buy it in hong kong as the price is cheaper by about 2th pesos for the sigma lens.

Maraming salamat in advance.

sir , i think only Sigma and Tamron has this 28-300mm 3.5/6.3
nikon has 28-200 3.5/5.6 and tokina has 24-200 3.5/5.6

It's best that you try them out, I think Henry's has the Tamron and JTPhoto has the Sigma. I have tried them both before and for the superzooms the best is not available for Nikon, the Canon 28-300L IS. http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=217&sort=7&cat=27&page=2

It's big and expensive, but far outperforms them all.

@archie

Great choice! :) Definitely better than what you were initially considering. You have to carry 2 lenses instead of one though. :Grin:

well, if the 2.8 is not critical maybe the 18-200 vr? reviews are great on that piece.

@ christopher

if you want versatility 18-200 VR is the way to go. nothing beats a simple twist of a barrel to go from wide to tele. but if you want sharpness and pro build - its difficult to beat the performance of the 80-200:) .

thanks for the inputs guys I think the price of the 80-200 would be why I will be getting it as compared to the 18-200vr.

On the contrary, 18-200 VR is cheaper than 80-200 f/2.8 (if both brand new). :)

ah ok as I checked the 18-200vr is not an f2.8, which is what I am looking for now. I was convinved in getting the 80-200 becuase the lens is fast and offers everything that I was looking for.

thanks so much for all your input guys.

got the lens and as what you have been telling me it is super sharp. I have one question regarding this lens. Why is it that when I set the apreture to manual ie.2.8 or whatever the d70s gives me an error warning it is also my problem with my 60mm f2.8 nikkor lens. Is it becuase they dont communicate in this setting that is why I have to set it at full range so it can automaticaly set the apreture? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

what specific error msg do you encuonter? havent experience this.

might be with your body (since you also experience it with out 60mm).

how about with your other lenses?

@archie

Congratulations on the new lens! :)

Question on how you set the aperture manually, do you do it by turning the aperture ring? If you do it this way, then you will get an error. What I usually do when I shoot manual with my 60mm is set the lens and the camera to M then I adjust my aperture on cam. I leave the aperture ring locked to the minimum. Hope this helps. :Grin:
